My two UD characters spend quite a lot of time in L'Obsul. Or speak to Beek'in a kobold down there lately that I've seen. Also, the locals will tell you to go to Kiran H'laar and head in the general direction north.

Why would -anyone- want to leave the beauty of the Underdark anyways? Har harr!! ;)

Again, why is Wiltun the "centre of the universe". I think its wrongful thinking personally. L'Obsul should be the "centre of the universe" for Underdarkers not Wiltun. If you're looking for better gear, Wiltun certainly doesn't have it either.

So here's a lil' tip for you:

If you want some quick means of getting around B-server.

Have a portal linked to:

L'Obsul (slot 1)
Shadowscape (slot 3)
One to A-server maybe (slot 4)

Shadowscape gets you to Brogdenstein, Frozenfar and A-mia Forest very quickly. L'Obsul is -your- Wiltun, make it so that others start to see activity there and populate it.

The other one is your current hunting zone or area of exploration, etc...Slot 4.

There's absolutely no need to even go to Wiltun. That's surfacer chain of thought...change the mindset and you'll feel much better...once you do.

People want to go to Wiltun because they know the surface, it's easy, well known, well trodden, and they can ge ton the trollercoaster.

I have yet to speak to a Drow player besides like... well, Sounds' ghaundaran, who hangs around UD-B. Everyone tells me it's far too easy to get lost in and they can't find their way around it.

I personally do not like the cave system there, go to a transition and having to chose a location. Can it be mapped out better perhaps where a transition is a transition and not a dialog?

Fine, who wants to make a new Vhaeraunite faction with me, based on B-Underdark? And, no, it will not be with Rizzen.

I also, sure as hell, will not lead a faction again any time soon.

Actually, nevermind. I did not decide yet when to come back from my break. >.<

To field this for Disco:

B's Underdark follows the same system as Khem and Frozenfar do: That is, it is a "Very large region" connected by Point of Interest. This allows Disco to expand things easier later since he does't ever need to worry about running out of room, so to pseak, but yeah, it does affect being able to mentally map out an area and find your way around.

Several players have also told me the Drow language names are a barrier to being able to remember places as well.

I agree. The one or two times I went there, it was a pain trying to remember the names. It was some sort of.. what is the expression? Put off?

Perhaps "intimidating" is a better word. I tried to do some exploring, but got lost because I failed to memorize the names of the places.

Okay, since this is becoming more of an OOC barrier than an IC one, here's Sound's quick guide on getting from L'Obsul to the surface:

1. Go to L'Obsul, Draix (The Heap, Upper floor) via the crane operator closest to the Crystal node.
2. Click on the cave entrance, select Hiran K'laar, transit
3. Click on the cave entrance you just came out of (behind you!), select Ogre Caves (surface).
4. Fight your way to the surface (don't forget to take rope!)
5. After that, the world's your oyster! Good luck!

For those lost on the terminology, go to the Drow crane operator on L'Obsul, Jas; go down to the drow area, there is a book on the table nearby, click on it, it explains in great detail ALL the names in the Bunderdark.

Sweet!

:D

I take out an A3 sheet of paper, draw a circle in the Centre, call it L'Obsul and draw lines and bubbles from there.

Personally, I love the UD-B Underdark, the drow names give it a real ominous feeling ... it's a great place, although I've not had much time there since my playtimes are limited atm. If you want to get to the surface, I've accidentally stumbled across three different ways, so if you explore long enough you'll find them, or you can get to it by using a boat from A, or finding a friend to teleport you out.

There are Trolls in Ologg region in the UD btw. :D If they have to go to the surface for trolls, they've gone to far!

I've secretly watched some of the characters who are new there blunder about, looking for a way to the surface, I usually -always- help them find it but wanted to know what mistakes they make first. Here's the two sticking points:

They select the crane operator that goes down, not up.

They forget to click backwards once they get to Hiran K'laar so it takes slightly longer for them to get to the surface caves.

Those are the two key errors they seem to make time and again, as well as not knowing that Hiran region is the key to everything for an Underdarker to travel smoothly to most zones.

If Ultrinnan were there, I'd never leave the UD on B. It's an awesome, well designed and very pretty area, designed so that drow don't need to 'OOC Party' and 'OOC Hunt' (not that there's any such thing) on the surface.

Hey, I am happy in Ultrinnan. I didn't even support the idea of an underdark on B in the first place.

Also if you don't have any thing nice to say, don't say anything at all Tormak. And yes, I do realize the irony.

But there's more to the Underdark than just Ultrinnan, you know. Drow complained about needing to come to the surface for good and etc so we made underport and expanded the entire underdark into B. In practice a Drow never need to leave the underdark to level from 1 to 30, but they still actively shun it. I want to know why. We gave tem what they asked for, after all.

Look, if you don't like the Blunderdark, don't go. I have to admit, there are now several Drow players who have moved across so clearly there are quite a number of Drow players who like it and a few who don't. Horses for courses.

My personal answer is low playtimes and suddenly being promoted to head of the Temple, so when I sign in I have a whole bunch of people that need to speak with me.

SOME Drow players whined and complained, I've always thought that there is too much unused space on the server any how.

L'Obsul was built for all the other UD races + quite a number of Drow who'd like to not just interact with themselves. Also, one can level from 1 to 12 there, without ever the need to go to the surface.

Underport and the rest of the underdark including Ultrinnan already worked for that.

Plus adding more city-like areas only spreads out RP groups, decreasing interaction.

It certainly didn't. For starters, Illithid rule that city, Duergar would never enter that area voluntarily. The Bloodbeards would constantly be put out. As for Ultrinnan, no, we DO NOT wish to be your little slave races and that's what it is, when one goes to Ultrinnan.

Its a bit like asking tieflings to go hang out in Winya....

Sorry, but neither model suited the other UD races and the non-llothite Drow.

From what my poor memory can gather, B-Underdark came in to fix that.

Adding areas for niche markets while leaving others to stagnate is a bad idea, altering Underport would have been a far better idea.

Now on topic: Make The underdark on B at least somewhat more simple to navigate and I (and possibly others) might consider using it more.

I concede that there were problems and I know first hand some of the ones you and the V's experienced.

But I still maintain that players being unable to adapt and work to better their surroundings and then complaining and demanding to have an area built for them is a lazy and cheap way to solve things.

There was no space to expand the Underdark on A. And to move it entirely to B, would be too much of a hassle. I remember Tormie or Disco mentioning about the many entries and how they would be wholly unfriendly, troublesome, even, for a Developer to change.

And, yes, making the Underdark B more simple to navigate might help some. If it is still in BETA, perhaps Disco can still change it, as soon as he finds spare time.

If not.. well, you should have mentioned the difficulty earlier, at the thread on TtC.

The policy was, no new areas on A and for whatever reason, Underport was decided to stay by the Dev/DM team. Winya, believe it or not, can quite often for many months at a time, become a niche market. There are trends. Ultrinnan, right now, is a niche market, its dead most times I've gone to visit it...

There is only so much one can do IC having so few fellow PCs to work together to improve it and having the staff constantly (and rightly so!) saying that they would not provide NPCs to help your cause. And of those few PCs you have that could help you, most would be too afraid to do something because they could risk their PCs' identity or comfort zone.

AKA "Not willing to take risks".

You kid me, TGE.

There was always less interaction between Ultrinnan Drow and ANYONE else because the Ultrinnan Drow were always on a heretic "witch hunt". They would never allow other races or other non-Lolthite drow to stay in their city for too long because.. well, they were not Lolthites.

Not a critic. I know it was all IC.

But stop complaining about lack on interaction between Ultrinnan Drow and any Underdark races because.. guess what? The Ultrinnan Drow themselves that brough such a "destiny" upon themselves.

I'm not giving the staff any slack on that either. Everyone, player or otherwise should work to fix problems instead of just adopting a burning land policy of bailing and moving on.

I support Black D's observation. Nearly everyone of my non-Llothite characters got sacrificed when on A. Underport you could either stay there, or the minute you left it, whammo! Llothites would ambush your one svirfneblin or shadow elf and drag you back to Ultrinnan for sacrifice. It drove players to the surface who were not Llothites.

It was particularly bad when House Vandree were there but anyway, the point is, you lot, with your IC actions, drove the rest of us away. I'm not saying you were all bad apples, but it kind of got boring being saccy'd every time you left Underport...

You see, I am a critic because it is all (excuse my saying) BS. Players in Ultrinnan create a hostile environment and then wonder why nobody comes while on the other hand the other UD players refuse to co-operate with each other and then complain when nothing gets done. And in the end all you're doing by caving to their complaints instead of dealing with the root of the issues is delaying and compounding the problem.

you lot, with your IC actions, drove the rest of us away. I'm not saying you were all bad apples, but it kind of got boring being saccy'd every time you left Underport...

The next time somebody says you lot or something to that extent I just may lose it, I have always tried to promote RP between groups but while many players talk a good game, many refuse to actually do (censored) all to actually help alleviate the situation. Everyone wants to come out on top. Everyone wants to win. But so few are willing to actually give a little bit of leeway and work together.

I say this and I mean it: I would willingly Perma Kill all of my characters if it would get the lot of you to actually work together for more the a fraction of a second.

I found UD-B incredibly irritating almost instantly, to back up equalizers point. Not my issue really, though. I just was instantly annoyed travelling UD-B. Spent ages looking for it, huge let down.

Surfacers have a randomiter to get them seriously lost...hehe...Underdarkers don't.

Seems we are agreeing here. Which goes back to the topic at hand:

That is why the Underdark B was created. Exactly because of the quote above.

Non-Lolthite drow and other Underdark races got tired of trying and not getting anything out of it.

I remember SoaS trying to make religion on Ultrinnan less centered on Lolth, but her Ghaunadaun PC, when found out, was soon kicked out of the city. Same would happen with any other non-Lolthite drow: either they would leave of their own volition or they would be kicked out.

So, yes, we all agree that Lolthite Drow brought that destiny upon themselves and we all have to agree that this was one of the reasons for creating the Underdark B.

Non-Lolthite Drow and other Underdark Races tried to interact in Underport, but the place was too small to accomodate everyone, especially when there would be some sort of issue between races or different factions of non-Lolthite Drow.

But that leaves me with a question for you, TGE, concerning this: "on the other hand the other UD players refuse to co-operate with each other"

Why, oh why the Ultrinnan Drow could not try to get along with the others too?

Why was the onus on "trying to get along" solely with the other non-Lolthite Drow and Underdark races?

It is sounding, once more, as a case of "Lolthite Drow are special, so the non-Lolthite drow and the other Underdark races should be kicked out, flogged and stuff, while the Ultrinnan Drow have all rights to keep their comfort zone as is".

Why are every Underdark race and Non-Lolthite Drow forced to bend and adapt their RP, but not Ultrinnan Drow?

Mind, I am not trying to flame anyone. I am honestly... at a loss here.

EDIT: Ugh! People posted while I was typing. >.<

To be fair to you, I agree. I know your RP style and I know that you tried to do everything you could to bring "outcast" groups together.

But, it is as I told you: there is only so much one can do with so little PCs to back you up.

They should be, I only said Ult drow separately because that is honestly where much of the negativity comes from but either way. But most people are to blame, they go through the motions but really don't want to change.

Hell I can't even remember the number of times that I've offered my aid in bridging some of these issues and not had anyone take me up on the offer.

Okie dokelies...we've established the fact that non-llothites weren't happy. We worked out that Underport and surrounds were too difficult to change and too small...and that we could only expand onto B. Thus L'Obsul was created. Then, the server took a major lull in the player base this time of year, so it seems pretty quiet. Of the 7 Ghaunadaur players originally, 5 have left the server (moved on, doing exams, had a gutful, whatever). Other UD Drow players in Ultrinnan also got annoyed about something and up sticks.

Now the UD playerbase is tiny again....but I have a feeling, it'll grow in time.

And those are the times when I wish I had supreme control over NPCs so I could do some of those things.

Why did it annoy you and irritate you? If we can get a list going like I've been tryin g to do, we can get issues looked at. You're far from the first.
