Going to need perhaps 3 to 8 for two ceremonies coming up in the next week. No date or times yet but would much enjoy the RP. Trying to put together a large group for the events. Can not promise DM overwatch but I am hoping. Post here if you are willing. Times will be posted in the next 24 hours. Thank you much and if you volunteer I hope you enjoy.

P.S I will PM those who volunteer.

I share the same sentiment as Mago actually and feel its more rewarding and not to mention thrilling to do the capture without scripting/choreographing.

Set up an ambush somewhere!

Okay, so when we sacrifice you guys and you login the next day and get ressed, Lloth is not going to be pissed.

We recruit one-shot characters on the understanding you die Forever, to stop the cheapening of Drow Sacrifice RP by having you pop up in cordor the next day bitching about how some drowess ate your heart.

Most evil (divine) factions make sacrifices, and that RP seems to hold up without the need for permanent effects.

But I suppose... drow are 'special'.

The stirring of the cobwebs along the fourth wall stir the Spider Queen. When She sees that it is one of Her own brood spinning cobweb topiaries in the shape of flies, all sharing a state of deceptive terror until they are pushed, unscreaming and unterrified, into the Abyss, She rolls eight all-seeing eyes and bequeathes divine wisdom:

[Drow]Sacrifice without risk is blood without life.

Bullet one. The shear number of them needed is as I feel might be a little high for a bunch of decent kidnappings. Are you willing to let your char sit in a cell for 4 days and not play them.

Bullet two. I need to set up the times and dates. I do not want to grab someone then have them say "Oh sorry I have to leave in an hour."

Bullet three. I never said I wanted one shot chars or real chars. Either or will be fine.

Bullet four. And I may have already gone over this. Set times and dates are not set yet. What is going to happen is based on when the players are on.

Have a nice day.

To answer your question, yes, the Drow are special, we has spell resistance.

Err.. but with all seriousness, being sacrificed usually means your body is going bye bye, being eaten by a spider or if you are lucky, something more ceremonial. Means your not coming back to life.

I do agree with setting up a planned event with willing players, I know a lot about the unwillingness of random PC sacrifices. Perhaps we could have a few people make Moon Elves that we may sacrifice, Lolth doesn't care about level.

I've made 100+ sacrifices in total with Darth.

I say bullshit to the need of OOC arrangements.

But that's just my opinion. And I won't derail the topic any further with it.

Well no, Mago, I know what you are saying, Naelin used to bring back daily sacrifices. I just think this this situation calls for the arrangements. Plus it would offer the opportunity for players to get those yummy DCs if a DM were to bless us with dem cookies.

I seem to recall DMs being unhappy with non-permakill sacrifices e.g. person pops back up ten minutes after being sacrificed. Are we allowed to do that? Because that would make finding sacrifices a hell of a lot easier.

My Cyrist, Moshe has made about the same Mago. I find it very gratifying ( I spell that right? ) to go around the isle hunting his next victim. If I had ooc help doing so, it would lessen my satisfaction.

Bullshit.

Out of all the sacrifices the Banites have made, there's only been one sacrifice that resulted in a permakill for the character. And that was by the target player's own initiative.

The further effect on a PC from a sacrifice is up to the player. A good player will go along if you set a trap and capture them but you /cannot/ ask every player to willing perma thier guy to satisfy your RP. In a realm where the line between life and death is thin as it is with deities intervening and bringing you back all the time it makes no sense ICly even.

However as I said a good player will go along with it and even have some effect left behind after they are raised. I remember one of my guys were captured and sacrificed to Lloth and it was /great/ RP and once he came back he had a "mark" on his soul from Lloth and a irrational fear of going into any cave. It gave me a whole month of great RP to get his soul cleansed and he never got over the fear of caves.

As to people coming back the next day to complain about it that's easy. My guy Celub was captured by one of soundsofastream's girls and instead of just dragging me along into a RP I might not like I was asked if I was up for it. When I had to anwsered no, due to lack of time in this case, she just flipped it over and said he wasn't worthy to sacrifice and knifed him RP style and walked away. Person choses to lay there and wait for someone to "raise" them or gets up after a few like they were respawned. Kudos to Sound for some epic RP BTW

I can only go by what I've been told, and ever since I've joined I've been told DMs don't like non-perma sacs by the other drow players, or that 'Lloth' doesn't like it which is exactly the same result just with a more IC flavour.
But if a DM tells me we don't need to permakill sacs, then I have no problem with it.

Sounds like something Nekh said back when there was extreme surface/UD issues, actually. But they're not really there anymore, so.

I always thought the oneshots were dumb. Everyone else fights for the sacrifices, you guys just walk them in. Woo.

Oneshots are dumb IMO too, but surprisingly (or not so) few people are willing to have their 30 perma'd.

Sorry, it may be reading comprehension skills, but are you saying the drow are special (since as long as I've been on I've been told the DMs want perma saccs) or that they're not special (that the need for perma sacs no longer apply)?

No, I'm using 'special' like people call retarded kids 'special'.

Meaning you seem to insist on being the only people on the server that goes "woe is me, everything is ruined OOCly" if you ccan't force permadetah on your sacrifices. The Malarites, Banites, Cyricists, demon and devil worshippers, all of these surface people do sacrifices and the PC is not forcibly permakilled and they do it all the time.

So yet again the Drow just look bad by saying "Me me me we're special we demand this and blah blah blah"

Also:

Who demands it? I know I don't. It's a screwed up rule that prevents us from getting sacrifices most of the time. Every single time I've heard it mentioned it's because the 'DM's prefer' not because the 'playerbase prefers'.

Before you go insulting an entire portion of the playerbase, you may want to think "Hang on, could this all be resting on a misunderstanding?"

And to your edit: All I asked was for clarification.

Okay. This is what I'll ask

DM's give us a ruling, no bullshit no nothing, debate it and get back to us. Do you want Permasacs or not?

Players. Stop hassling the DM's, and the Drow. So what if Banites do it different. Banites aren't drow. Etc.

Drow. Sit on your hands.

Pick who the hell ever you want for sacrifices. Everyone else functions without forcing permadeath. You guys are just another part of the server.

Umm... when the alternative is "You MUST permadeath ur character if you die in PvP to us and get dragged down here", it becomes relevant. EVERY other sacrificing faction does this fine. you are the ONLY ones with a 'problem'.

It's an OOC issue! All I did was ask! You could have actually answered the question when I requested clarification, Tormak, instead of continue to degrade me, that would have stopped me from 'upping my postcount' too. And just so you know, I can't get in game at the moment because I have to leave as soon as my physics lab partner calls me on MSN, and I hate leaving in the middle of RP for no reason.

Why did you have to be so demeaning and sarcastic? A simple answer was all that I asked. You could even have gone into PMs with me, but instead you decide to insult a portion of the playerbase and refuse to answer the question that's being asked, which also happens to be a major purpose of this thread.

Edit: Thank you, you posted the answer I was after while I was typing this.

And I asked for clarification!

There are four possible scenarios:

I'm doing this because I want to know. You don't tell me.
=> I have to keep posting to find out.
I'm doing this because I want to know. You do tell me.
=> I stop posting
I'm doing this to up my postcount. You don't tell me.
=> I keep posting with a legitimate excuse.
I'm doing this to up my postcount. You do tell me.
=> I have to stop.

Wow, two of those situation give you what you want, and instead you opt for the other two. And why am I continuing to post now? Because you are deliberately being demeaning and insulting. I asked for CLARIFICATION. All it would have taken was a simple "Yes you do need to perma" "No you don't need to perma". Instead you decided to carry this into an argument.

First post. Go read it. Go read it again. Come back to me when you notice the part where I say "any circumstances that may have caused this are gone now."

Go find a sacrifice, I don't care who it is but you don't get to force permadetah on them because you're just players and you're not better than anyone else.

See, this is one again a prime situation where the Drow players sit and complain for years instead of asking a DM about anything. And now when a DM DOES give you the answer, you sit and complain too. Nothing is good enough for the Drow. Ever.

Fuck you. I read your post. It makes sense sure, but we ask for a claricification and you chew us off.

You're sliding back into assholism.

EDIT: Statement 1 does not lead to Statement 2. It is implicit and can be read a variety of ways.

You see? You could have stopped. We had the answer we needed. Instead? You decide to be rude and aggressive. Why would we assume a supposedly iron-clad rule would just change? And we ask for clarification, just to make sure.
And beyond that, I stated I was having trouble with my reading/comprehension. I ACTUALLY STATED IT.

Yurell wrote:

See? I was polite. I stated that I didn't understand, and somehow you figure that to be the whole drow playerbase whining because the DMs give us what we want?

Folks, seriously, calm down. Any more of all this posts back and fourth and this is getting a lock.

Now for these sacrifices.

The ruling was made before my time as caretaker of the underdark so having had a brief chat with Tormak we now give you this definite ruling to replace the previous:

Wherever or not your sacrifices are permakilled afterwards are the choice of the players. If you want to agree on it before hand, fine, if you want to find them on the surface, thats also all good and dandy. Basically you are free to do what you feel is best, though off course you still not demand that other players permakill their characters, thats their own choice.

What I mean with this, is that it was an old ruling, I wasn't even aware existed anymore. So proceed with your sacrifices in the way you deem yourselfs is the most fruitful.

One issue is that at the core, sacrifices aren't well understood. Souls don't go to Lloth just cause you stab them with a dagger. It is the ritual itself, the prayer and the display of might that pleases Lloth. So she doesn't get the soul. Everyone there sees the might of Lloth's priests and maintains faith in them. They in turn ensure thier children worship Lloth... and then get murdered by thier children.

When someone just up and lives again, the sacrifice itself can feel cheapened. It may be that somewhere among the many communications that some thought that unless it was permanent death for the sacrifice, the soul didn't go to Lloth, and the sacrifice was a failure.

From Hamachi, me talking:

[15:56:34] << I remember that argument being brought up because literally, Drow would run up and grab the same PCs over and over because the Drow knew they were easy to kill.
[15:56:53] << They were sacrificing like 3-4 PCs a day and no one could do anything because ultrinnan was invincible
[15:57:18] << So there was a temp. halt called between UD/surface stuff and the Drow got told they needed to arrange stuf beforehand, but just for a little bit.
[15:57:36] << I had no idea years later they'd still be following it and not bother ever askking a DM even though it's caused issues for them.

Yo, hawkes.

Thanks to the beauty of self archiving, I'll make a level 3 fit for sacrifice.

She'll be a wood elf named Alyrianna but past that, your folks will have to hunt her down. Not making it utterly easy. FR is a big bad world and Amia no less of one really. If you decide to take a stroll past the gates of your home, well you're largely slapping a giant red target where your arse should be.

Tell me the day though since I work from 7am-4:30pm EST. I'd hate to have the whole gang gussied up for a sacrifice and I'm stuck at work unable to attend the party.

I mean cuh-rist. There have been people making alts for the sole purpose of helping friends level or being their kids/family members.

Making an alt to take a knife in the interest of assisting another player/faction with advancing their own RP in the way we might so often long to have our own RP aided with involvement, just seems like good manners for a role playing -community-.

I can help you out as well, I'll make a moon elf named Ilyra, and as colanah said, you'll have to hunt her down. Just tell me a day and an hour, but if it's going to be passed 7 PM GMT I can only make it Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks to the beauty of self archiving, I'll make a level 3 fit for sacrifice.

This....with one addition.

Arranging a sacrifice well in advance in an OOC nature as you are doing, determining who will/may be the victor, is by far worse than the person you sacrificed getting up and walking around the next day. In other words, if you want to please or appease your goddess and you put in no more effort than what you're doing right now (hey, volunteer for death!), then I don't see why you should be rewarded when other folks are accomplishing the same thing but without poisoning the IC atmosphere with OOC pre-scripting.

EDIT: This comes across more douchey than it should, but those who have spoken with me before know that I am extremely particular about the IC/OOC divide, and your push, Hawkes, seems to me the wrong way to go about it.

HOWEVER, I will throw you a bone. Thank God someone is at least trying to do something.

What is wrong with a mix? Have those few who want to volunteer to create a character just to perm death it as a sacrifice at the same time hunting players that have no idea they may be marked for it. This way you have a “more pleased Lloth” since some of your sacrificed souls do go to her.

I wouldn’t even tell or ask the ones you are about to catch if they want to RP being sacrificed, not until you catch them, if you can. Ask them after they are caught if they wish to RP being sacrificed, it they do great, if not then give them a way out.

After they agree then ask them if they want perma death or want to have escaped Lloths clutches because of the will of their God. There are many ways it be thought of, the priestess fouled up the sacrifice ,,,which she wouldn’t know or at least the others wouldn’t know, or their God grabbed the soul before Lloth could to be resurrected, ect ect. I am sure as RPers there are many ways it can be explained.

As far as getting the sacrifices now that you know there is no longer a rule to perma death, you have many options there as well. Have it a long standing IC situation, no need to set up a one day event over it. Do not go after allot over a short time, that would just ruin the experience between all concerned. The Drow would not need constant sacrifices that have no true meaning but instead sporadic ones for a reason, some high celebration, some type of change of power. Just do not over do it cause it will have no meaning and becoming boring to fast.

Ohh, one more thing, do not limit the RP just between the Drow and their victims. I am sure there will be concerned surfers, some with fear and hate with the recent disappearances and rumors of more Drow activity, some with indifference even and may even deny it happing. Would also be some who may find it a opportunity to bargain with the Drow, for safety or even profit. Point is, there is a great opportunity here for some ongoing great RP.

My personal opinion is that usually it is the act of the sacrifice and not the sacrifice that is the main focus. (Examples of exceptions would be assassinations where the target is the focus instead of just the Act.) Therefore, I usually have no problem treating the PC caught as "Unfortunate Adventurer #4" instead of specifically "John Schmoe 23wiz/6SD/1rgr moon-elf" unless he wishes to proceed further with the plot/event/incident.

That said, since its mentioned the PCs a drow, do some surface raids! ^^;
The trick is to balance is nicely so you sit on the "adding flavour" part of the scale instead of "griefy asshat".

Not going to comment at all either way since I don't really give a damn.
That being said, I'm always willing to create a character to die in a most horrendously brutal fashion if you need me to.
