Is it just me, or has there been a drop of players recently?

But isn't that a common trend, really?

Amia has had very noticeable ups and downs several times throughout the last 4½ years.

College is in full swing now, so we prime 18-22 year olds are busy with other things. I get on as often as I can, it's just difficult with the schoolwork.

Last year we had a drop after the holidays as well, but the current numbers are.. worrying.

Is it me, or aren't there any Drow around?

Some circumstances have made being a drow too un-fun to play with. Some of them IC, others related to particular people in Ultrinnan who make an hobby out of harassing people.

Myself.. I don't matter :P Never been one of the big players in Ultrinnan, but the things I heard and saw were enough to make me leap over the fence and go to where the grass is greener. But I'm sure there's a few that feel that way too.

no need to elaborate. The dms are aware of the problems and are handiling it even as we speak.

Theres no need to drag it out on the forums and start another flame fest on drow.

i'll log in with my shadow elf and get to L'Obsul a bit more. I was there for a while with other PCs but found:

1. The city deserted, most days, I had the whole four level city to myself
2. At my time of day, B-mia is still dead as a doornail, let alone the UD

So, I've been playing over on A-mia for now until things pick up, then shadow elves will dominate and take over the world! hehe..

The players have basically everything they could need to make roleplaying happen. They just choose not to, and they foster an environment that undermines roleplaying. Whether it's because they're off pillaging the living daylights out of something and therefore aren't visible to be roleplayed with, or because they're right in front of you demonstrating a total lack of interest in roleplaying, it's still against roleplaying.

Even I have become part of the problem since I don't roleplay often enough anymore.

If I'm raging it's because they could do better (or at least, stop getting worse) they just decide not to.

If there is something that you can do about that, Tormak, then I'm not going to take the cynical back seat and assume that you'll fail, I'm just telling you that I have tried and failed.

I'm busy with work and school. I don't have much time to play right now. By the end of October, I'll have more time again though. Gotta do what you gotta do, ya know?

I too have noticed a serious drop in Lolthite activity.

Aye. I was a player there, once upon a time, but left and never came back for, probably, some of the reasons why things are going south down there right now. Hopefully things get cleaned up so that Lolthite RP can be made fun. Can't say I'd be interested anymore though. Been too long now.

There are legitamite reasons that the numbers are decreasing, and other servers numbers are increasing. I find it strange and somewhat funny that there are many Amians who I now encounter in other PW that I've tried over the course of the last five years. We're everywhere!

:D

However, I don't think talking about it or discussing it will make any difference - atleast right now - because it doesn't seem it will be listened to. It seems some people are too intent on flaming through passive-agressive manners than giving the other persons perspective a good honest looksie and then moving forward on it.

This isn't a forum where points are awarded for one upping the poster prior to you, yet people react in such shitty ways to some of the most common questions, or come across as complete asshats when people are just trying to help.

Yes, you are responsible for how people perceive you. Yes, I often say things direct and to the point, which can make me appear condescending or rude, but I'm just being forward and real, dammit! I don't hide behind passive-agressive BS, which is worse, IMHO.

Until those attitudes get adjusted, and people actually start listening to facts (not fiction or emotion, NOTICE THIS PLEASE) nothing will change. Amia will always have it's hardcore players, I'm one of them, and won't leave until the server is dead or disconnnected.

But you must be able to look at the other persons viewpoint before you accuse them of being unable to look at yours.

This goes for both all sides of the fence, myself included.

Just my two pence.

Regards,

I made a new Drow recently, there were a few Drow players on A, then I jumped to UDB to see it for the first time. :)

Liking L'Obsul and the Zau'tar's. I think that's what they were called, anyway. :?

Very true words, Frey, and I agree wholeheartedly.

I would also like to add this little tidbit of personal insight.

For any players who have tried drow and for whatever reason felt bullied, belittled or otherwise harassed by veteran players:

Now is the time for action!

If you had problems with the hierarchy in Ultrinnan, start your own... you can become the new hierarchy. A number of the "reigning" drow have left for various lengths of time and for various reasons. There has never been a better time to lend your hand to molding the Underdark into what you feel it should be. Remember, Lolth wants YOU!

But its NOT just Llothite Drow.

The Ghaunadaur faction has died in the arse as all the old players have left for other servers and there's just two of us left and we're playing other characters due to a lack of UD rp in general.

The Vhaeraunites moved to the surface and killed themselves off too.

The Dark Alliance is nearly non-existant too and Galenson has gone now.

The key players who made the UD come alive, have mostly gone and in the end, I just got sick of twiddling thumbs by myself in long dead halls...

rl has kept me from playing my drow, but i gotta say whenever I meet up with lowbies I always make the suggestion to head over to UD-B to hunt. Beautiful place, and once I have more time I am going to start IC work on something I have been cooking up down there.

IC, my character prefered to think it was, before he left (and I started my break).

OOC, it is a shame if that is the reason for most people to be away. There used to be complaints about lack of DM interaction and when it happened... anyway, let us not get there.

What I started noticing before I started my break, was that some (if not all of) the key Lolthite drow players seem to have found more enjoyment playing alternate characters than their drow. Whenever I checked the Amia Messenger's list, many of the usernames that I first knew of drow were playing characters that were not drow anymore. I was one of them, but with a plagued character in the advanced stages, there was not much he could do.

As a player, I could think of many things he could have done. But as a character, they would not fit and would be more an OOC excuse to keep playing my main 'lolthite' drow.

I was trying to start something with Tranny after Auron was cured, but it was a painful and sad fact that the time I picked to work on it, there were no drow PCs around.

The one time I managed to find such PCs, they were two, and of those key players. But they were always busy people and I knew that for that little plot to actually kick up, I would need more drow than those two, especially because I was used to their erratic schedule online.

Mind, I am not condemning anyone. Just saying what I noticed. Of course everyone is free to play what they want when they want.

I personally think it might have to do with a multitude of things.

Uncontrollable events like school and stuff.

Simply put, MANY, MANY, MANY drow players had stated their opinions on the subject of the Underdark and the type of RP found there. Many tried to do what they could to fix it....maybe even causing a little more frustration when they failed to fix it.

Also...the responses when such posts arrive becomes this back and forth see saw of "You're wrong...I'm right...that's that!"

Strangely enough most of the players who felt "insulted" about the MANY people who complained of the Underdark are the ones who helped caused this all.

But the main reason why this occurred is something I realized is the most important aspect of any server: The First Rule. Make it FUN FOR OTHER PLAYERS.

Time and again the drow players down there had been TOO HARSH, in an almost orcish fashion, but worse yet they deliberately kept being the same exact way knowing that they were causing other PLAYERS to thoroughly NOT have fun. This is the point where numbers began to drop. Also they'd jump down anyones throat who talked badly about Ultrinnan.

No amount of WARs or anything else will make a huge difference. At this point you could collapse the roof of Ultrinnan on itself and I doubt anyone would care.

L'obsul is too little too late in the making....plus some of the same players who ruined Ultrinnan are hanging around L'obsul.....causing me to personally avoid it as well.

I do not blame the DMs though. I think they simply sided with the wrong end of the arguement. They chose to side with the old players who had always been in Ultrinnan instead of wondering why SO many new players were complaining in the first place. Now thankfully...some of those players ARE making themselves scarce, but that's only because no new blood has come to Ultrinnan to be bullied or the typical "You did not bow to me once...DIIIIEEEE!!!!" routine I so know and love(sarcasm here).

The same thing was occurring on Arelith funny enough. Instead of doing the stupid thing and getting myself banned or anything, I took screenies and submitted them to the Arelith DMs. Eventually those problematic players slowly started disappearing and the server has improved in quality if not numbers. So now NO ONE dies for mistakingly missing a bow or some other nonsense.

And here's another crazy thing: Even if Ultrinnan or L'orbsul(sp?) is fixed...what's to stop those same people who ruined Ultrinnan...from simply returning when the numbers increase and doing the same thing in L'orb.......the other UD place?

At this point I'm so not wanting to argue these points that if someone responds in some angry fashion(take a breath before you respond), I'll take it in stride and breathe easy anyways. I helped another server have depth and intrigue so at least in the end of things I realize at least I am a much better RPr than when I started.

I saw NONE of that, in the (admittedly brief) time I was playing an U/D Drow Male.....

The difference in culture with L'Obsul is huge compared to Ultrinnan. The Drow are NOT in control there, if anything, the Duergar were more powerful there (still are) and they'd quickly put the Drow matron in her place if they were to tell any duergar to bow and scrape like a beggar. L'Obsul is a far more balanced city, where the Drow aren't the masters, just one more race amongst many others.

I think the best way to keep the players from ruining l'obsul is to be in a position where they cant do so. Outrank them in L'Obsul, have more authority, have more respect.

Personally, Isendu't'tar hasnt bowed to a female in probably around a year, unless they were in his house. He worked hard to get to the point where, when a female ordered him to bow, he could turn, look her in the eyes, and say "I am sorry jabbress, but I have pressing business with the Ulath'taller to attend to. Would you like to explain to her why I was late?"

Regardless, complaining about things wont change anything, but actually changing them will.

That is because it was his own experience. I can assure you that I saw very few of such actions, too. And whenever I heard of something like that, it was an isolated case or something like... 1:1,000-ish

I'm not entirely sure how this got onto Drow and the underdark anyway, pretty sure the OP made a generalised statement about the playerbase of the entire server, not just the underdark playerbase. That's another issue.

Not exactly another issue. The Lolthite drow are part of this "dying" (or "absent") playerbase, as you can see by some DMs and players' posts here.

Whichever wording (dying or absent) you choose and hurts less.

In your opinion. I am fed up of you claiming other people "ruined" the city without substantiating, and of course it is always their fault, they are the ones that ruin everything.

The fault, dear Brutus?

I have never seen anyone except an experienced drow player killed for missing a bow, and it was more than a bow behind the killing too.

Because perhaps, somehow, this got missed.

The old hat that is basically, "Blame it on the established drow players for making Ultrinnan the way it is!" doesn't work anymore. The drow that are playing right now are mostly brand spanking new and those that aren't haven't been around for that long.

The "hierarchy" of the drow is nearly wiped out. Now is the time for everyone who has said that they would play a drow if it wasn't for the way that Ultrinnan is run to step in and do something.

I guess its too late to go back to a generalised view now.

Personally, I have been to L'Obsul only a few times and every time except ONCE, I was the only one there. I took a good look around, and I believe the place is a little to... big and empty.

Oh its the right size, it just needs a playerbase willing to play there. I've got one PC based there. I asked for a forum to give it prominence. Its certainly ready to go and I think once we get a critical mass there, it'll be fine.

But I'll say it again, B-mia being dead is a problem and A-mia is down to 80% of what it was.

Well since the topic won't be changing. Isn't B-mia underdark still Beta?
