Is it possible to get a ability score of above the 34 limit without shapeshifting or the ilk? I've looked into it, and can't find anything.

Max ability scores, from what i understand, are whatever your base str is +12. So, if you were half orc (+2 str), started with 20 str, and took all points in str, you could buff yourself to a max of 39.
EDIT: (showing math) 7 points altogether from level ups (1 point every four levels, ending at 28. 28/4=7.) so 20+7 is 27, add 12 and you can get max of 39. Or you could take a few great str (lets say three) And therefore max at 42. Thats how people get obnoxious DC's for Dev crit

Well, yeah theres that... Half orc/RDD/all feats taken in great str... on Amia the RDD str is a bit nerfed, but you could still get at the some where in the high forties/low fifties range. Mind you would suck @#!$ in PvP, PvM would be alright i guess. But now im getting off topic and going build monkey, someone hold me down!

In essence, your cap is 18 (base) + 12 (items + spells) = 30. On top of that you have class bonuses (e.g. RDD), race modifiers and feats

RDD strength penalty affects shapeshifted forms.
