This is just a question and seriously just curious but how many people have utterly missed an event or gathering listed in the IC notice because 5-10 new postings were submitted and within a day the one you wanted to go to got pushed to page 2 just about?

Truly there seems to be a few categories for the postings there. Auctions, Events, IC notifications. Hear me out on the last one, my Virgo is looking at me funny as well.

We've all seen the Auctions for selling items, bids on pages, offering the gathered treasures of the land. Those generally get knocked up to the top fairly quickly.

Events such as Shadowflame tourney, the Brawl, DM/player sponsored gatherings and the like.

Then there's IC Notifications such as the postings about the lumberjacks, the Wiltun/Garagos thing as well as various others.

*holds up hand* Not really asking for three sub sections in that thread or anything even if I do think that would be neat. I know it would only give the Mods more to have to look at. Genuinely curious of the thoughts of others about it.

I would think simply creating a section for auctions and anything trade related, and another one for the rest of notices would help tremendously.

Well, you know what I chose. :3

Anyway, yeah, I kinda noticed that once in a while. (Lumberjacks thing. *Giggles*) I'd kinda like if there was a auction section or something of the like. Tournaments and events that have happened can stay in the IC notices I guess, since that's where they pretty much belong.

Or then people could simply put a header such as "[Auction, Place A, Place B] Blah blah blah" or "[Notice, Place A, Place B] Blah blah blah".

Is it possible to get a sub forum within' the PC IC area for all the auctions? Bloody annoying since half of the posts are just people selling stuff instead of actual important messages.

Sometimes there are just threads on the PC notice board that my PCs would never see, because they are in places they do not go, or about things they do not care about.

I do read through them all about once per day.. I've never felt 'cluttered' and I am rather OCD.

I think what the OP was really getting at is that pure "announcements" that do not necessarily require replies will, within minutes, be bumped down to the bottom of the page because of all of the auctions. And we all know the bottom of the page is the internet graveyard.

Not sure about what counts as important. Let's face it my love, we all believe our posts are the most important in one way or another. *gives Selvac a cookie and B.F.G. (check Doom for reference)*

That or when people post auctions individually instead of keeping them all together so as not to make numerous threads. *slides eyes to the side* But yes...usually anything that's not on the top or towards the top gets utterly missed and may as well be on page 10 for a few folks.

I'd understand this if the board would get 100+ new topics a day, which it doesn't. Don't be so lazy, scroll down and find your topic.

Besides, you can't miss unread posts since they're marked as unread.

I'm all right with it the way it is, but I check the forums multiple times a day. OTOH, I can see how the abundance of auction posts would be a problem to someone who only looks every few days. I would be fine with an auction thread, because then I could comfortably ignore it in its entirety and read the more interesting & important stuff in PC IC.

PS. Sometimes my system seems to automatically mark all posts as read even when they arent.

I put the topics I make under "watched topics" and check them everyday. When they are being pushed down, I bump them back to the top.

Eh... I'm kind of indifferent I guess. It can get a little cluttered but I navigate through it well enough. I mostly ignore auctions anyway since I don't grind even near enough to even stand a chance against a lot of other people.

I don't find it to be a cluttering issue. I actually often skip over the Auction threads because they are almost always well marked. Mostly for a lack of interest by my PC. Heck, I skip over a lot of things if it doesn't look like my PC won't care.

But eventually I pick through it all. I check the forums daily. And when those "unread" topics are marked "read" because I timed out; I usually have a decent idea of what I've already seen or not because of the fact I'm checking daily.

Now, I could see a certain value to "Marketplace (Auctions, Sellers, Buyers!)" to help keep notices and stories cleaned up.

I don't mind how it is, but that is probably a lot to do with being a daily-checker of the forums. If you're only checking ever 3+ days, then there is a lot more posts you see jump up at you as "unread". So I could see the value to those players if we made an Auction/Marketplace thread.

We should have a sub-forum for recursive discussions about the Forums.

I voted for boobies, because it had the word 'flash' near it, but I agree with Zante on this one. I've missed a lot of things because of all the auctions in the past, but I still can't bare looking at all those new posts every day, it's just too much for my fragile mind.

I've found it's not that much problem. Bumping it in the morning seems to keep it in the top ten - fifteen until I go ti bed.

The Auctions are a pain in the bum. I often go for days at a time without checking the forum due to work and other RL considerations. Missing events and announcements that I'd have liked to see is regular.

So, I'm in favor of removing auctions from the forums all together. The notices are put up on the assumption that people will respect the 'Only in Cordo(or whatever)' moniker attached to them. Call me elitist but it feels like metagaming. If the sale of valuable items was kept properly IC then I am pretty sure that prices would fall and merchant factions would grow.

In my humble opinion more secular factions is a good and needed thing on Amia.

But..we love our forum threads about the forums we love.

>.>...still the thing with bumping is that if someone is interested in reading the thread, they may not want to look through 15+ posts that all say '//bump //nudge //push'

I love my fellow human beings but at times we as people....are just us.

I don't think it's entirely the Auction's fault. PC notice is used for things that clearly belong in PC story frequently.

As a Moderator, I ask all of you to please read the forum descriptions, and Use the notice board if it's an IC notice. Use the Story forum if it's describing an IC event or instance.

Players are expected to pick the right forums for their post, and tag their posts accordingly, to make it easier for everyone to read the forum. Not everyone does it, but since we got a laissez-faire moderating policy, we also do not nanny people too much and run behind them fixing topics.

I guess we could start giving warnings about that, and simply removing the posts that do not meet the criteria (tags, right forum).

There is a character limit on how long you can make a topic title, mind. This can be a pain if you are trying to add a tag as well as a descriptive name.

I discovered this myself, and had to resort to just what was for sale, everything else going in detail into the post.

It's the "I want to spam and see the results but I don't want to click the button that says 'show results' without voting" option.

Well yes, I guess it also stops the whole 'dropping in without reading anything and randomly voting option'.
