A non-descript book with a rather depressing frayed brown cover and stamped gold lettering that has faded to but a faint glimmer of yellow sits on the shelf in the library. Titled very simply as Legends and Myths by the Unknown Bard, the book is a hodgepodge collection of stories , none of them necessarily true or verifiable, written down by a bard who oddly enough did not want his name to be known for the work.
Chapter 1
Before the begining of time, during the dawn of the ancient world before gods and mortals, Great Beings of pure energy roamed the spheres, watching the new life form itself out of the void. Commanding a power that the gods would bow down to, these beings were mostly content to watch as the protomatter of the spheres bound itself together into worlds. On one such developing world, one of the Great Beings found a sphere done forming, and mortals had begun living on it. These mortals were pure, no stain or blemish marred their souls. Deciding to gift these first mortals with a gift, the Great Being descended to the world and gave to them a box. With this box he gave them a warning, that the box should never be opened, or great calamity such as never had been witnessed, and would never be surpassed in all of their future, would befall the world. And so the people entrusted the box to a family to keep it safe.
The family kept the box safe throughout the ages, and the mortals continued to be pure of spirit. An endless revelry, a celebration of life and joy was the way of their kind. One day the safeguarding of the box fell to a girl named Pandora, and she accepted her responsibility with grace. But she soon came to resent the box, and to be irritated that she had to be burdened while the rest of her kind did not. Deciding that it was her right to at least know what it was that burdened her, Pandora opened the box, and released all the evils that a mortal soul is capable of in the world. Greed, Malice, Hate, Envy, Jealousy, all that the Great Being had locked away to keep the mortals pure slipped out of the box and into the world. Fathers coveted daughters, sisters hated brothers, the people of the world turned agaisnt each other. They cried in despair, and believed themselves damned for all time, unable to reign in the new and powerful force unleashed within themselves. In their despair and depravity, the people decided to take up blades and end their lives, rather than to continue living with the evil that caused them to hurt those they loved.
As the people stood with blades pressed to their chests, one last thing was found in the box. A powerful emotion that the world had no need of while their souls were pure. Inside the box was a shining ray of Hope. With Hope came the promise that with conviction and truth, love and perseverance, the depravity clinging to their souls could be overcome, that a new dawn could bring a better day. And so the people clung to their newfound Hope, and set their blades aside, and vowed to overcome the evils in their souls.
With their faith in Hope and the belief that with it they would never again succumb to the evils within themselves, the people built a great shrine. They placed in it the box that had contained all their evils, to be a symbol of the power of Hope to overcome the evils the box had released. They left the shrine unguarded, believing completly in the power of Hope to prevent the depravity from ever returning. But soon people began to covet the box in spite of Hope, each of them wanting a piece of the artifact powerful enough to lock away all the evils of the world. One day the box was discovered shattered, and shards of it missing. And so the people of the world learned another lesson, that Hope alone would not save them.
// Thought i would write my own adaptation of a classic story

Title: Planets and the stars
Author: Luna L'amante
[A beautiful purple dyed leather book, with metal corners to stop the leather fraying. Quite a thick large tome, consisting of many beautiful diagrams. The cover has a small symbol of Selune in silver ]
Many across Toril belive the stars simply are. Although many such as sailors and travellers alike will use the stars to plot their course of travel, they are deemed simply stars.
Across the advances of time and civilisation constallations have been named, changed and re-named to suit whomever was gazing upon them. Though at first these constalations were not of our modern mind, far from it, that honour goes to our cave dwelling ancestors long past.
While constellation names and the mythical meanings one could make from them are interesting they hold not the wonder like the stars themselves hold. Since the creation of the Universe we ourselves are living in, not denying the possibilty of other universes or a mulitiverse, when Ao first created our planets and stars and evolution began its lengthy process the stars have had impact upon Toril and its inhabitants.
During my years in the Monastery of the Sun in Waterdeep I spent years tudying the planets and their effects upon us, the most poweful being Selune, our moon which shares the name of a deity. Our moon, while orbiting toril has an impact on all things in cycle, it controls the motions of the tides, waves and water aswell as weather paterns and in extention farming cycles. It is deemed to also have impact of the female person cycle and emotion.
Our other planets, while deemd to have these mythical effects I shall now list for you do not directly impact us. Many mages claim that they are of to great a distance to impact us in such a way. However their alignment, while supposedly not causeing any effects, they do corralate in such a way that when they are closest to Toril their effects appear to rise although slightly.
Planets:
Selune: Our moon- Navigation, Prophecy, Lycans, Woman Issues.
Anadi: A reddish planet- Fire, Destruction, War, Violence.
Coliar: Bluish-white planet- Air, Flight, Illusion, Communication, Thought, Travel.
Kapri: Bluish-green planet- Storms, Water, Destruction.
The next few planets I am about to list can not be seen without magical aid (Followed by a description of said magical aid).
Glyth: Dull grey planet with a beautiful ring and three lesser bodies.- Beauty, Love, Passion, Art.
Garden: A tiny green sparkle- Protection, Renewal, Everything growing.
H'catha: A large crystal like world very far away- Knowledge, Magic, Change, Evolution.
[After these descritions the rest of the book consists of star maps, diagrams of the planets and celestial beings in space.]
About the Authour: Luna L'amante named herself, her name means Moon Lover. She has studied the skies since she was but a child and continues to do so to learn more secrets of the skies to share with the world.
