Why don't RDDs get True Sight as a built in spell? *pulls out the water hose for flamers*

This is not, I repeat -NOT- to beg for the feat for the class, just a question asked out of genuine curiosity. Wyrmlings and Dragon forms have True Sight...is it because for RDDs are diluted in their blood that they don't?

Do the full blooded dragons that Amia has receive this as an unlimited uses a day widget?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I was wandering around the desert and was curious. ...no. There was no horse with no name. It had a name. Buttercup.

There are no full blooded dragon PC's on amia, as far as I remember at least, so, no widget either.

As far as I know can you only be partially dragon with the RDD class.

Also, what TS are you talking about? Bioware TS or Amia TS?

The later would be acceptable even imho, although I personally would say only someone with 15 RDD levels would get it.

The former, not so much.
It would cause to many people to run around as RDD's.

Wyrmlings and dragons are quite magical creatures, if I am not mistaken, with all the special magic eyes and that jazz. RDDs are just lousy misfits with a bit of dragon blood, after all.

There are, and we don't get anything just for having one. Appearance change widget comes with its normal cost, though Flight didn't have to be earned in my case (for obvious reasons). I haven't actually looked into it because it's low on my priorities, but I'm not sure if you can even get one of the Bioware standard polymorphs. Not that you'd probably want to, because it takes away your spellcasting ability...

If they got Bioware TS my tears would flow thick and somber.

As is, there are lots of items that cast true sight so it isn't that big of a deal.

Hmm...this shows why I asked the question. I didn't know there was a difference between the Bioware TS and Amia's TS. Ah learning, learning. Still I had been wondering if dragon classes that were pure bloods got this ability.

Or didn't as the case seems. Yes there are a ton of TS items and scrolls, I was just wondering if the pure bloods got such a thing like their magical kindred.

^_^ Thank you for the responses so far!

Unless you count someone that might have DC requested an item, no, they don't get any widgets or special abilities like that.

Bioware TS: See everything, invisibility, Greater Sanctuary, hips. Doesn't matters what, you can see it all.

Amia TS: +10 Spot + ultravision.

Until they reach level 10 RDD, at which point they become 50%.

It would make more sense to give Blindfight as a bonus feat for level 10 RDDs. As far as I know, this is the same as what they get in PnP?

Aye. True dragons have both parents being dragons, and that has a whole bunch of advantages. RDD have a smattering of draconic blood somewhere in the past.
Their visual acuity may be higher than a normal person, but certainly nowhere near that of a true dragon - even a half-dragon only gets Darkvision 60ft + Low Light Vision

They get Blindsense which isn't as powerful as Blindfight so i'd say not on your life Joe.

Quote:
Blindsense: Other creatures have blindsense, a lesser ability that lets the creature notice things it cannot see, but without the precision of blindsight. The creature with blindsense usually does not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice and locate creatures within range of its blindsense ability, provided that it has line of effect to that creature. Any opponent the creature cannot see has total concealment (50% miss chance) against the creature with blindsense, and the blindsensing creature still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. Visibility still affects the movement of a creature with blindsense. A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.

Making it rather similar to attacking an empty square when you think there's a hider there, except you are rather more confident he is (which doesn't seem to translate into a mechanical advantage except being 'aware' of their presence).

I'd like to point out that RDD has enough bonuses to it's class without adding more. What it has is MORE then enough in my opinion.

I was trying to answer from an in-universe standpoint, but ultimately it does come down to this - I agree completely with Selvec.

Well I was just saying that even if it was considered for changing, which I doubt it ever will be, there are about 15-18 other classes that would need PnP corrections and rebalancing before RDD ever got considered for even the slightest extra bit of power.

Oh, and OP is a she Opustus.

According to the MM 'Dragonsight' is a combination of two abilities - Bindsense (Ex) and Keen Senses (Ex).

Blindsense - "Dragons can pinpoint creatures within a distance of 60 feet. Opponents the dragon can't actually see still have total concealment against the dragon."

Keen Senses - "A dragon sees for times as well [as] a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. It also has darkvision out to 120 feet."

For a Dragon Disciple, however:

Blindsense - "At 5th level, the dragon disciple gains blindsense with a range of 30 feet [...] any opponent the dragon disciple cannot see still has total concealment against him, and the dragon disciple still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. [...] A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see. At 10th level, the range of this ability increases to 60 feet."

At tenth level, a Dragon Disciple becomes a Half Dragon, and so gains the 60-foot darkvision and low-light vision.

In effect, none of these abilities are like the Bioware TS, since they all involve attacking into 'empty' squares - you know there's an enemy there, but you still suffer the same mechanical penalty as randomly hacking the correct square.

As Opustus pointed out, I believe OP is after lore answers as opposed to balance.
As far as balance goes, that summary explains it rather well.

RDD has as a prerequisite that you take Bard or Sorc levels. Now who would benefit from a True Sight spell? Exactly, only the guys that make builds like a 18 Ftr / 2 Bard / 10 RDD, for example. Builds that don't invest at all in the class that allows them to bring forth the RDD but instead slap on something else. Not saying that it is bad to build like this, but saying that anyone who invests a little bit more in the caster class will have See Invis or TS soon, anyways.

But.. I don't feel that strongly about it, giving them a TS casting is not a gamebreaker. Real Bioware TS is out of the question, of course.

I tend to play mine as being the child of a half dragon. Because well...The premise of an RDD...Seems really really stupid.

Even Riala was born as a quarter dragon, but there's a whole huge backstory as to why she didn't look it at the start that I'm not getting into. Suffice to say, she slowly broke the "curse", but she never became something different. She was always a dragonkin.

I don't see what's wrong with it - you have draconic blood with all its latent abilities, and you use magic as a means to unlock its power.

Woah! It's nice to know that little fact. I have been thinking my creepy water genasi char is like 10-25% (I didn't really do the math or really think much about it more than that because he probably wouldn't know who up in his bloodline really gave it to him) but huh!

Is it exaggerated ICly, too? Because he takes some pride in thinking he's like 10-25% or whatever. If he knew he was only like 1% he might throw a little bit of a tantrum.

Well, it does mention in the DMG that it (Dragon Disciple's dragon ancestor) can be 1 000 generations, which is ... 9.33 E-300 % dragon blood (to give an idea of scale, you know how many zeros a googol has after it? Well, this number has three times that before the nine).
While this may be exaggerated, even ten generations back is only 0.1%

Yeah. And from what I know, aren't Dragon bloods with 25% and up platinum coin characters? I could be wrong, but that's what I had heard from a Dragon player.

50 and up. In my perfectly blunt and honest opinion, people play "25%" so they can look like an angel/devil/demon/dragon without needing to make a request. I can't be fussed enough to care. I do play a Djinn after all.

Illogical / Impossible (Sub-) Races without appropriate approval deserve to be slaughtered on login, even if they somehow manage to scrape past the Racial Restrictions.

Considering we can't do this; I'll settle for second best. 100% Shunning/Neglect.

This includes the Dracolich Dragon Disciples (Note; dragon disciples require dragon heritage. No kids for undeaders.), Half/Half of two elven races, Non-Existant FR (Sub-) Races, or Demihumans.

Most of the time I see some 25% dragon flavor and another quarter of tiefer, genasi, aasimar and the likes. Though by the description of those bios you would think the purple dragon of Cormyr personally stands before you.

Quarter/Quarter requires DM permission. Anything that is not a pure representative of one of the available subraces (see the sidebar) requires DM permission. (OK, quarter elf/human is reasonable, thanks to Half-Elf being available, but common sense can point out these few mundane, acceptable exceptions.) A Fire/Air/Human being is not one of the available subraces, so it's not an acceptable PC.

Yep, the 1000th generation thing is correct. So, as was pointed out, it's extremely unlikely to know anything about your dragon ancestor.

I think RDD players should have to roll a d1000 to see how close their dragon ancestor is. >_>

Most Genasi, Aasimar and Tieflings have very distant blood, too. Think of it like this: if the blood still has influence after a thousand generations, and every descendant gets two kids, there'll be a few thousand people with little planar blood for every one with 25% of it; and everyone of them is just as likely to manifest the powers. Which is pretty damn unlikely, or there'd be way more of them. (I guess 25% would be a bit more likely, but the likeliness of that goes down pretty quick down the line.)

Also, consider that the majority of Fire and Air Genasi on Faerûn come from Calimshan (or at least it's the single largest center of them; the sum of all others might be larger yet) because Djinni and Efreeti ruled the region hundreds, if not thousands of years ago (can't remember dates). The same can be said of Mulhorandi Aasimar and Tieflings, if you look it up. So no, it's probably not likely to even know where your planar blood comes from.
