Well, they're nothing if not consistent...
The 1.23 Patch was released a couple of days ago, and it seems there are some "minor issues" with it. None of these issues appeared in the Beta.
A number of people are reporting BSoD, or crash-at-launch. These seem to be two different issues. The BSoD so far only seems to be happening to people with an external DVD and/or a Virtual Drive connected, even when the NWN2 DVD is in an internal drive (so long as they are connected the BSoD occurs). The cause of the crash-at-launch doesn't yet even have a tentative cause.
A couple of PWs are also having an issue where Epic PCs are losing XP instead of gaining it. As soon as they do something to gain XP they are immediately sent back to level 20.
Obviously, there's more info on the official boards and your PW forums.
If you haven't updated yet, you might want to think about waiting for a hotfix.

The boons of 1.23 outweigh the issues (that the majority of people aren't being affected by, btw).
Don't be a hater.

At least they are patching the game.
Yes, I am looking at you Oblivion and Fallout 3!
Then again, there seems to be a trend of breaking PW's or Mods of games with patches, while not fixing anything. Quite strange.
Then again, programming is hard work and not as easy as you might imagine, still, I wonder how many people work on it and how much time they have.

Patches for Oblivion would still be nice, though. It's so buggy at times.

Multiplayer was the primary focus of this last patch, which included an Autodownloader feature for gameworlds. This feature allows gameworlds to specify a webserver from which to grab required files for the gameworld, which are then downloaded to the connecting client. These files are compressed into 7zip files (best known compression system to date). This is so efficient, that I was able to download over 140 megabytes of required files for a server I frequent in under five minutes. For the record, I have a standard cable connection, nothing super-fast.
Before anybody says this just makes NWN2 perform a function NWN1 has had since the beginning, note that the required files downloaded with this feature INCLUDE hakpaks. This makes NWN2 servers even more accessible than NWN1 servers, provided the gameworld administrations take steps to show they're worth their salt.
In the past I've been among the bashers of Obsidian, because it's true most of their patches have focused on singleplayer rather than multiplayer. However, it's absolutely ridiculous to use that against them here, because the exact opposite has happened.
I hate to get defensive over a company that, quite honestly, I don't respect that much, but information presented in this thread has been incredibly one-sided and could be interpreted as an attack. If you want to bash Obsidian, there are plenty of less baseless ways to do so.

The XP bug was pretty ridiculous though, considering it wasn't in the beta patch and then popped up after. That's a pretty grievous thing to miss, though it was immediately hotfixed, to their credit.

How is NWN 2 Multiplayer atm? I haven't tried since Amia 2 and was rather put off by lots of large downloads.

NWN2 is a multiplayer failure from a design standpoint. NWN1 was designed around Multiplayer, from the ground up. NWN2 was not. It doesn't even have an included map seeding tool for Persistant world hosts.
They didn't -get- what was awesome about nwn1.
Ease of multiplayer use..
basically to me, NWN1 was more of a Multiplayer game building/hosting software +gamesystem/world bundled along with lots of pre-existing lore which allowed the community's creativity to drive it. Less is more.
Nwn2... got it backwards.. More is less. More downloads, PW files, un-needed bulk, un-needed eye-candy, reused assets from the first game, I could continue on and on, but there were many broad design flaws that I don't know how they overlooked it, other than they wanted more money. The DM client was absolutely worthless, and wasn't even included, if I recall.. when the game first shipped.

As they say, nwn1 you purchased a toolset with a few pre-made modules to introduce you to the toolset. Thus its multiplayer is good but it's single sucks.
nwn2 on the other hand is the complete reverse. Everything was geared for single-player from character apearance customisation to epic feats. Hence the single player modules (OC and MotB especially, I didn't really like SoZ on a personal level) are pretty high quality, even if they had their flaws.
Calling nwn2 a failure on a multiplayer level's not really fair considering it was never really intended to support it like nwn1 was.

To me I wanted an update of NWN1, in its sequel. Refinements, added usability, perhaps updated graphics, new PRCs, stuff like that.

Depends on the world you play on and what you consider large. I play on a server whose total download size is only ~140 MB, and even people on the other side of the world from the host report fairly quick downloads. The downloads are also automatically placed where they need to be now.

Aye, this is the truth of it, and so anything more than ~10-20 MB becomes very expensive.

I keep telling him to get a job. Either I don't speak English or I need to start speaking in riddles instead of being so blunt.

Sounds like you need to learn them first. It's "Heyo, Heyo, It's off to work I go!" *whistling* "Heyo, Heyo, Heyo, Heyo" repeat.

It would have been safer to release an NWN 1.5 which simply took advantage of improvements in rendering and graphics memory to deliver a resource-economical experience.
But it wouldn't have sold because players already have NWN 1. In order to attract them to a new game you have to aim higher. Which Obsidian did.
It's too bad they missed, but maybe NWN 2 will start to take off when more of the bugs are squished and more people have fast connections to download files, and better spec computers to handle the graphical load.
What I can say with some certainty is that there is a market for resource-intensive multiplayer RPG. But at the moment it's dominated by the MMORPG offerings, since hardly any of them can afford to skimp on eye candy.

Yurell, dude, get a different ISP. 'Charge by the mile' services are the worst, with companies who cap your bandwidth (Hughesnet) being a close second. There are a lot of companies who provide even better service at a cheaper rate than whatever unbelievable bullshit they have you paying now.

Student accommodation, so natural monopoly there.
And here basically everyone caps bandwidth.

I'm actually very surprised an NWN2 Amia RP group hasn't been started up for BG: SC, I half expected it to come about, but never did.

I know quite a few amians on BG:SCC, and they all tell me the same thing: "I enjoy playing with you Tormak, but for godssakes, don't tell any other Amians I'm here." It's funny, at this point there's almost half a dozen of them who don't know each other are Amians. Everyone's hiding from each other, tbh.

I wonder if I should come there, too. I played it a while, but I ended up in the Underdark at the start and had no idea how to get out - pretty bad for an Air Genasi. That, and I crashed at transition all the time.

They start all Genasi in the Underdark, but a DM will move you to the surface if you ask them. I won't get into their Genasi logic: It's a disservice to the server to speak ill of them behind their back. Suffice it to say I do not agree with it.
