Anyway, hello. My main suggestion is to play a character you can enjoy, don't be silly/annoying and don't always try to be the centre of attention. RP is just all about good storytelling, really.

Respect both your and others' right to have fun and try to keep that in mind in everything you do in game and you'll be fine.. it's a game after all, having fun is sort of the point.
Also try an outgoing PC. They're really my faves.

As Dwagin (I think it was) said, make an outgoing PC. You'll have more fun with those, and RP will stay entertaining for longer.
Get used to Amian RP fast, or it may make you insane, in a good or bad way. I like to think I went insane in a positive manner.
If you see a kobold -> Run.
If you see Boppi -> Run.
And if you feed the DMs, do try to find out what they want first, and then give them the exact opposit.

Please be sure to define the difference between what you are saying OOCly and ICly, and try to keep the OOC to a minimum! I've noticed alot of new people saying OOC stuff without the usual // or ((OOC)) or using party chat or whatever, and it does put a dampner on alot of other peoples RP.
Other than that, Have fun, Do try and avoid the "stuck-in-cordor" syndrome, and wander the server, it's an amazing place after all, and RP outside of cordor does tend to be a bit more exciting! (having said that, Cordor is a good place to meet people.)
And don't feed the australians.

Don't plan you RP. If you do don't get upset when people don't act the way you planned them to or someone completely different shows up. Let is flow and always stay in character. Don't let OOC things influence what you do IC.

Let your character learn about the most interesting places in Amia. Then, when you're ready, explore them leisurely and with a good group that doesn't rush from spawn to spawn. Enjoy the scenery! You have only one chance to see it for the first time. ;)

Give the DM cookies, they don't have to eat it. ^.^
I'd get some surface experience first as any of the normal races first(Human, Elf, Half-Elf/Orc, blah blah blah) before playing an UD race, like da Drow!(We r g0in to UbEr pwn u alL! LololOL)
If you see a DM in the starting area, don't gaze at the epic cuteness on which they hold, like kitties, aswell as chickens(Good for drop-kicking) just run into da mirror as fast as your little feet can carry ya!
Keep a watchful eye for DM's too, they love to slay you at the most horrible of times. >.> <.<
And if someone offers you something for free that looks powerful, dun' take it! DM's give a horrid(Rawr :3) spanking. *Nodnod.*
