As described in the left section here, the Amia Craft Wand Feat was slightly changed from Bioware standard. XP penalty does no longer apply when crafting a wand, and cost was droped to 75% of original Bioware cost (see below)

Based on experience over the last ten-day, my druid Pauris got very confused at how much gold it would cost him to create a wand, and even more confusing, he had no understanding of the potential final power of his wands.

I wanted to share what I found in various threads here and in other forums. Feel free to correct any mis-statement, obviously.

-----------
Basics

Any spell caster who knows the Craft Wand feat can cast a level 1-4 spell on a non-enchanted Bone Wand.
These wands have a 0.5% loot probability.
Edit from TS_ : the innate level of a spell matters, not the level at which you cast the spell. Example: A cleric with animal domain can cast True Seeing as a level 3 spell. He cannot make True Seeing wands, though, because True Seeing is considered to be a level 5 spell.

-----------
Spell Caster Level

Spell Caster Level

=> The user of the wand does not impact the resulting spell CL.
upon crafting the CL of a wand is fixed in Amia, as per Bioware Standard.

=> The crafted wand will have a CL according to the following list.
Where multiple values are shown, the wand will always be crafted at the same CL picked from that list, but without testing, it is unknown which one is picked. The CL of the wand is often significantly lower than the crafter's CL, but can also be higher if the crafter has very few levels.

Quote:
NWN crafted wands Spell Levels (Compiled by The Krit)
Acid Fog 11
Acid Splash 1
Aid 3
Amplify 5
Animate Dead 5 10 15
...

The full List of Item CL is availabe here : http://s.vnfiles.ign.com/nwvault.ign.com/fms/files/scripts/3312/Item_Levels.txt

Note : True Strike cannot be crafted onto a wand.

-----------
Available Charges

Amia wand charges follow Bioware standard : a newly created wand has 1d20 + 1 charge per Wand Crafter's caster Level (up to a maximum of 50 charges)

-----------
Crafting Cost

The NWN Standard Wand Cost (SWC) matches D&D 3.5 cost formula :
SWC = Spell Level (1-4) x CL (as per above table) x 750gp
The Amia wand cost is 75% of SWC.

Example : a Flame Strike (CL5 /Dr4) wand crafted by a Lvl 19 druid would result in a CL 18 item, for a cost of (4 x 18 x 750) x 0.75 = 40,500 Cordorian Crowns.

Edit from TS_ : Note that the amount of charges does not affect the price at all, effectively making wands more expensive at lower caster levels

Note : I can include the full price list here provided this is ok lore-wise etc ? let me know.

-----------
Varia
[the following is stil WIP and might need confirmation from more experienced wand crafters/users]

Resulting spell impact from the crafted wand matches normal spell impact (Amia spell changes included)
- the above Flame Strike ( 18 ) wand will deal the (capped) 15D6 damage (half divine, half fire)
- I believe Spell Focus feats do not apply
- I believe Book of Transmutation changes do not apply
- Your own spellcasting abilities (feats, modifiers etc) do not influence DC checks.
=> DC from wands is assumed to be the minimum required to cast the spell. eg: for the spell fear the item DC should hence be 16: 10 (base) +4 (spell level So/Wi 4 ) +2 (14 minimum INT/CHA to cast the spell)

Very useful, the list. But I don't think it is entirely accurate.

For example.. both GMW and Keen Edge are below CL 15 when you put them on the wand. Makes sense, too. Would you want to give every UMDer the chance to make his weapon +5? Stuff like that. I think it's Amia custom.

As far as I've noticed the wand cost was largely dependant on the level of the spell and the CL did not factor much into it:

4th level = 16 thousand
and downwards from there.

Disclaimer: I have only experience with Brew Potion and Scribe Scroll, but I assume it works the same way for Craft Wand.

Yes, except that the innate level of a spell matters, not the level at which you cast the spell. Example: A cleric with animal domain can cast True Seeing as a level 3 spell. He cannot make True Seeing wands, though, because True Seeing is considered to be a level 5 spell.
I'm not sure how it works the other way round ... I think, that cleric with animal domain cannot craft a Polymorph Self wand either, because for him that is a level 5 spell, even though it is a level 4 spell in general. The game is always against you. ;) (But I haven't checked this.)

And not all spells can be used to craft wands, there are a few exceptions like the level 1 spell "True Strike".

Again, we're looking at Bioware standard here.
The crafted wand will reflect the following spell CL : [when multiple values are shown the wand will be crafted at highest value below or equal to the Wand Crafter's CL]

You're describing a custom modification, and I don't think it is installed on Amia, which would match the observation with GMW. By Bioware default, you will always craft stuff at a fixed CL, and it does not depend on your own CL at all.
However, The Krit's list still applies in some sense, as it shows the possible CL the items can have. Many spells exist at only one CL on items, so you know exactly what you will get with Craft Wand, Brew Potion and Scribe Scroll. If there is more than one option, you will have to try it out.

The Amia wand cost is 75% of SWC.

That should be correct.

Yes, I do now remember someone mentionning Magic Weapon and GMW have almost if not exact same CL, despite crafter having CL30.

Except for other similar Amia-custom changes, the list could be an appropriate starting base I think.

- I have limited experience, as I only created the described CL18 Flame strike (Dr4) wand @ 40K gold, and the described CL10 Call Lightning (Dr3) wand @ 11K gold. (and then my char was broke )

- as per TheKrit in NwN vault http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Sc ... 3312#Files)
TheKrit wrote:
The caster levels available are limited to those found in iprp_spells.2da, so not every caster level is possible. To see what levels are available in BioWare's version of that file, download and read Item_levels.txt.

=> It would be great to hear other feedback on correctess of the list.

As a scribe, my druid would be happy to hear about Wand Cost/resulting CL experience from other PCs. At INT10, don't count on him to come up with the cost formula though.

To clarify (my opinion):
No, it is the Bioware default. GMW and Keen Edge both come out at CL 5 on Amia, I think, just as in NWN. The list is also accurate in this respect:
Code:
Greater Magic Weapon            5   10   15
Keen Edge                       5   10   17

The assumption that the highest matching CL is used is simply wrong, imho. The list shows the only possible values that can ever be in the game for these spells, but the crafting still occurs at CL 5 for both. It could be changed to 10 or 15 for GMW or 10 or 17 for keen edge, but the way it is now, they are both CL 5 always.

Side note: Actually, the CLs picked from this list could be different for Craft, Scribe and Brew ... But I think they usually match. Flame weapon (comes at 3,10,17) could be an exception, as the potion has CL 3, but the scroll might end up as the usual CL 17 scrolls.

So don't try to find too many Amia specific things ... The bug fixes I know of are discussed here: http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=580994

Anyway, I like your compendium. One thing I would add under crafting cost is: "Note that the amount of charges does not affect the price at all, effectively making wands more expensive at lower caster levels."

Making spells casted from the wand hold the wandcreator CL is wholly possible with a bit of spellscript jacking. If CastSpell's CL parameter works properly.

Though... that'd be overpowering would it not? I can already see people zapping each other with -7 saveless str from negbursts so forth, 30/round/turn/hours duration on spells.

Edited original post with TS_ clarification on GMW / Keen Edge crafted CL not matching listed possible Item CLs. (hopefully got it right this time, PM me otherwise)

Deleted 'Whining' section where I proposed to match Wand CL to Crafter CL (hence Terra reply above)

Ability modifier + spell focus = CL of crafted wands/scrolls/potions?

But still overly powerful and will raise the magic/power level in Amia.

Nope ;)

You could write:
Quote:
Spell Caster Level

=> The user of the wand does not impact the resulting spell CL.
upon crafting the CL of a wand is fixed in Amia, as per Bioware Standard.

This means, that the crafted wand will have a CL according to the following list. Where multiple values are shown, the wand will always be crafted at the same CL picked from that list, but without testing, it is unknown which one is picked. The CL of the wand is often significantly lower than the crafter's CL, but can also be higher if the crafter has very few levels.

I would completely scratch the following further down:
linlan wrote:
Edit from experienced users : List might prove incorrect in some cases; a different CL has been experienced when crafting GMW, Keen Edge. (List to be expended)

Again: The list is not incorrect.

Also, the note about True Strike: There is no technical reason why True Strike cannot be crafted, it just can't. So the following is information
Quote:
True Strike cannot be crafted onto a wand.

should be enough.

@Terra: Well, sure, you can script pretty much anything when it comes to spells. But it will still show up as "Keen Edge(5)" on the item, unless you make it a "unique item action" (?). Or am I completely mistaken?

The number you see after the spell "(5)" in this case is what's in the 2da and what GetCasterLevel() will return in the impact scrip. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not sure about the keen edge, gmw thing, there is a bug in there somewhere? Why not just pick another spellcast?

True strike is a solid 9 second duration it can be extended but the script doesn't take extend spell into account anyway. I think its for good reason that it isnt craftable unto a wand with 30+X uses to be honest. :P
