Mourngrym, (my kellie) Is always up for protecting trade routes since he is a Knight Templar. It is his duty and he wouldn't charge a thing for it. Since he is in Ne'sek most times I am on, anyone feel free to ask him if the ambushes or whatever are too tough.

Assuming you can make it work like this at all, which I have no knowledge of....it's just probability jiggling.
You could make it a D8 like:
1-2 - CR9
3-6 - CR15
7 - CR21
8- CR27
25% under CR, 25% over CR, 50% at CR.

This is one of the many consequences of the 3-30 level range of the module, given just how counterintuitively big that gap is because of what one level means in NWN. As I said the other day: it's not like white belt and black belt, it's like white belt and Giant Robot Tyrannosaurus. It throws up lots of logical absurdities in every field from politics to ecology to economics, but the only answer is to compartmentalise server/area access by level, and that sucketh the monkeyballs, says I. If you try and fight the fact the world is 3-30, you and your character will lose every time, but if you roll with it, all these problems vanish unless your character is a moron thundering towards a Darwin Award. In this particular case it's the fact that as a lowbie, you really should know that there are lots and lots of monsters that you need to be at the very least a Midsized Cyborg Tiger to stand a chance against, so you should be extremely cautious going anywhere new. Quote: A one size fits all ambush is only dangerous the first time. You want to live in a dangerous world, huh punk? Make the ambushes be a spawn of beasts from a "random" CR. I answer by asking: should there be a point, let's pick as an example ECL30, where you are one of the dangers of the world?

Why do you think today in Egypt there are escorts protecting the tourists? Not because of the heat. Please just suck it up.

I'll put a level limit on the ambush script. Mind that this will only work from the person asking for a ride. If you got a party you'll get it.
Explanation: I am not that nasty, and I got shafted when I was young and innocent in Zanshibon and everybody laughed at me. I didn't think it was too funny.

I like the ambushes too. They should be left alone completely. I don't hear anyone complaining about being dropped from the carts on A when they want to go to Uhm or Wharftown and having to fight the spawns to get there or escape. I say leave it. Danger is good.

Oh come on.. the point of an ambush is for someone to get caught unprepared and get their asses kicked or run off.. Not find a group of perfectly killable monsters who'd take the excitement away from said ambush...
Just today I got ambushed on my lvl12 and I ran for my life

Small work or big work, I have no idea.
But, honestly, Disco.. That's not necessary. Use your time with something else.
I have a couple of lowbie characters, myself, who were ambushed. They just ran and whenever I died, I didn't complain and merely respawned.
If you want to fight spawns, you can always go to the map/areas around the cities.
The ambush ~is meant~ to caught a character unprepared. The ambush ~is meant~ to make the character think whether he runs or fights.
The ambush ~is not meant~ to let you know the CR of the spawns you are fighting because... well, it's an ambush, it was unpredictable and it could have been anything from a tiny goblin to more powerful wandering beasts.
I like the mid-level spawns.
Leave it as is, Disco.
It's not as if you are ambushed all the time, unless if you truly are an unlucky person.

Huurgh. At leas give it an IC explanation. If you don't, there will be very paradoxical relationship between teh OOC reality and the IC reality of Khem.
"There are ambushes about, so make sure not to travel alone"
"Oh, thank you, Sir!
//Actually, don't listen to my character's IC advice, it's safer to travel alone.
//Gotcha!
Preferably, leave it as it is or put ut some warnign signs or something. It's just annoying to have a world that is "safe to explore" at any level.
Please, please. Don't destroy the ambushes.

There's a big ol' difference between an ambush inside ICly guarded, walled cities and one out in the wilderness. The difference mostly lies in the fact you can't avoid being somewhere in the module, so you need to be a ridiculously sadistic Dev to spring ambushes on people even if they're sticking to the safe bits. If we're not going to be Bad Cop at least a little, then there wouldn't be any monsters at all, so ambushes when you've chosen to go somewhere without scouting it either yourself or vicariously by asking IC is fine by me.
My pitch: leave it alone
Compromise: take out the Stingers from the ambush roster. Those are the only ones I really don't want to meet unless I'm in shape to whup them. Everything else is a simple Invis casting/potion/stealth-mode away.

Honestly, I have to agree that the ambushes shouldn't be messed with.
I've been khem-ambushed with a pre-10 pc, at least a few times, including just within the past week, and all I ever had to do was run. I don't think I've ever died as a result.
Yeah, lag might get the best of some few folks, but lag happens. There's plenty of "hub" areas in the servers, and having Djedet be semi-dangerous to get to is not, I think, the end of the world.
Adding this level check is just going to make the ambushes virtually pointless. I'd rather just see the ambushes changed to a party cr based spawn, popping local unfriendlies of the appropriate average party cr on ambush area entry. That is, if a change is an absolute thing now.

Getting ambushed as a lowbie is not fun. They are a waste of time at best, and gankage at worst. Running does not work, several times the stingers followed me though the transition and killed me in the Hasrabeth area. It's pointless
Kudos to disco for putting in a level cap.

Just for you.
Anyway, please leave the ambushes as they are. The more random combat encounters, the better.

With the best will in the world, I sometimes wonder why Zante keeps logging onto a NWN server when he doesn't want to play NWN. Is this really the only place with the kind of RP you like?
Anyway, on ambushes: yay! More! More! I'd love it if the ambush system in dungeons was rejigged so that instead of going to 0%, it stayed as a flat 3% or so and the variable was how long you got to prepare. Zero if alone, about ten rounds if your pals were there.
The disadvantage casters suffer - that they truly suck unbuffed - isn't a factor in Amian PvM once you figure out the ambush safety zones, so they flatout winwinwinwin over tanks. It's a basic feature of NWN, and not a good one unless the swings come with the roundabouts.

HAHA.. If you're entirely serious that you can't access youtube at all from work, then that was a bloody good guess mate.

I would still like to draw some attention to this observation. What is the difference between the carts on A and the caravans on B? Is it just the CR of the things you run into or the probability of an ambush?
Regards, Ts

NWN seems to be the only game with actual RP, period.

Regards, Ts
The carts on A are all optional, on B, you can't get to Khem without using it. That, and the cart routes on A are spawn free.

Negative, he clearly quoted "Uhm and Wharftown" which if I'm not mistaken, dumps you on a road that spawns bandits either way that you run (for one of them, I think it's Wharftown).

Get (censored).
I post because I like to think my opinion, like the opinion of anyone, can make a difference, and the more popular support an idea has the better chance it has of being accepted.
I post because I love this game, and like to think I can contribute towards making it better - I don't have much money so I haven't donated many times, but I do believe that if can help in some small way it would be good.
If I just wanted the PC +1, you'd see me littering the RP Praise Thread (I believe I've posted there thrice), the How Known thread (I haven't posted there for months) and the Music Thread (I don't post there any more either).
So is there anything else you wish to say as far as denigrating me goes?

I'm in full agreement with Uce. Though, I would like to add that while I find the current anti-adventurer "They only bring trouble" narrative of Cordor highly interesting*, I'm also appreciative of Khem as a harsh, savage land truly in need of heroes.
*I'm not speaking of the undercurrents of "real" danger here, btw, but of the immediate impression the two regions give to newcomers. I'm well aware that Cordor needs heroes perhaps more than ever.
EDIT: Yeah, I posted while this rumble took place. Didn't sneak in after lock. Bah.

Well, I'll post again after lock: I'll have a look at the opinions and do a quick count, divide by annoyance, and multiply by random. If the outcome is Billy Ocean I might change something towards more pink.
