Hello, everyone. I wanted to ask if any of you knew what problem I could be having, and, if possible, what to do to fix it.
Basically, every time I play on Amia, there are a few areas that I guess are not registered on the graphics engine. They appear to be white, as if made out of ice. The biggest problem being on Server B, Fortress Wiltun.
"Glacier" Wiltun Fortress
As you can, see the entire area appears to be made out of ice, or like I'm in some sort of winter-wonderland. Better yet, white canvas...
It is sad to say that I have never truly seen how Wiltun really looks like.
Any ideas on what the problem could be? Maybe missing texture packs I need to download? I have been noticing that some of the new areas that have undergone remodeling on Server A also appear to be "ice" (houses, trees, buildings, etc).
Here is the system I use to run Neverwinter Nights.
Laptop
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: HP Pavilion dv6000 (GA452UA#ABA)
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150
Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium Operating System
Thanks.

Looks like missing textures, you have the latest patch and all the expansions installed right?
That looks kind of cool though.

Totally hot, yeah, I'd say you're missing your textures.
See if you can reinstall or fetch the contents in the "texturepacks" folder found in your nwn folder.

From what I know, I have everything that people have been telling me to get. Critical update being one of them.
Texture packs you say, though? Which ones? Are there new ones I did not know about?

I'd suggest downloading the latest video drivers.. Some NVidia drivers are known to give white, or white-striped textures in NWN.

Get a few diffrent colored markers and some cling wrap.
Put the cling wrap tight over your screen and draw your own colors in. *firm nod*

I used to have a similar problem in the past. Rest assured, it's nothing to do with your PC's ability, you're computer is plenty capable from what you describe. You have a corrupt install. Try reinstalling the patches, manually if needed. If nothing happens, try reinstalling NWN, then the patches.
Note: Beware of that video card though, the Nvidia GeForce Go. Those things are defective. Keep your laptop cool or it'll fry.

Texture problem definitely.
Was it always this way? Or did it just one day, go poof and all textures went poof? Any other places, in the campaigns or in different servers, do you experience this?
Do you have any custom content installed in nwn, specifically texture overrides? Try cleaning out your override folder first and see if it gets resolved.
You could also try to uninstall NWN, delete anything left, and reinstall. Download a new 1.69 critical rebuild patch, and get back to Bmia.
Maybe try updating your video drivers too. Mobile gpu's have only few drivers released for them though, you could check out http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
Finally if all else fails, it could be an early sign of your gpu starting to give out. HP laptops are known to be defective especially models coupled with nvidia gpus.
On the other hand, we could send you screenshots of wiltun. Just memorize the place in your head and use your imagination.

Best solution ever.
As long as you have a mouse, keyboard, and a monitor... you can play on Amia!

Was it always like this?
Yes. And all that new stuff that was added on Server A (like Norther Outskirts, new buildings around Bendir Dale, and the rental homes' doors are all white)...
Any custom content?
No.
Uninstall?
Yes, I reinstalled the whole game, plus the critical update, yesterday evening.
Updating drivers?
I don't really know what that particular site offers. Never seen it....and I'm fairly paranoid in downloading things I don't know what they are or from unknown site.
If it's a sign that the hardware is about to go out, then I suppose I could go on as is. I know it's not a big deal; I can live with the other areas being fairly normal. Just thought I'd ask you guys first to see if it could be fixed.
Then again, it might be time to buy a new PC.

Uninstall? Yes, I reinstalled the whole game, plus the critical update, yesterday evening. Just throwing out wild hunches here... it might be your nwn cd/installer itself. Do you have an NWN platinum dvd? Try borrowing a different dvd/cd for installation. CTX wrote: I don't really know what that particular site offers. Ok, after a bit of googling it seems you're not the only one with this problem.
These posts discusses it:
http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... 4&forum=87
http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... 0&forum=49
Skimmed it, but here's something you might find helpful in identifying the problem.
Quote: It might be a problem with one of your texture .bif files
Check \\NeverwinterNights\NWN\data\ for the following sizes, if they are different sizes this may be indicative of an issue with your installation (yes I know you reinstalled) but I've encountered this issue before and that person reinstalled as well...
Below are the files and the correct size for each one: textures_01.bif 61.5 MB textures_02.bif 236.8 MB xp1_textures.bif 123.8 MB xp2_textures.bif 279.7 MB
Finally, I've found this.
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Ha ... 99&id=7398
A supposed fix for white textures. It might not be your exact cure though, as you don't seem to have all the symptoms it lists. *shrugs*
Anyways, Google around and good luck with your problem. If all else fails, get ready with your "colored markers and cling wraps."

Considering NVIDIA is the manufacturer of your video card, it's probably a good idea to update the video drivers.
Just go to www.nvidia.com, and click on the drivers download.
It will prompt you for your particular generation, select it and viola!
Download the driver, and do the following:
1.) Go into Add / Remove programs, and uninstall the existing driver.
2.) Reboot.
3.) Let the OS come up, when it prompts for the driver for the video card, click on the "Cancel" option.
4.) Browse to where you downloaded the drivers, double click and install.
5.) You will be prompted to reboot once this has completed. Do so.
Now give it a try and see.
Regards,

This is particularly bad, because Laptop manufacturers don't care about updating their graphics drivers whenever NVIDIA does so. ticket wrote: Maybe try updating your video drivers too. Which is why that site above exists. They slightly change the NVIDIA drivers to trick them into installing on laptops. (They edit the hardware compatibility list of the drivers so Windows accepts the drivers for your mobile GPU, plus some minor settings). Use at your own risk, of course, and check the forums over there.
I hope that clarifies things.

Nvidia drivers are unified, for laptops as well as desktops. If a third party website is editing the HCL that the driver was certified under, while this may work for some enthusiasts, your average laptop user doesn't even know what a HCL =is=, let alone how to properly uninstall / reinstall a video driver.
If you check the categories on Nvidia's website, there's usually a section for mobile computing platforms if such is the issue.
What is at the heart of the problem your speaking of is actually due to the laptop manufacturer... hence a good idea would be to check the manufacturers website for an updated driver, or any known issues with this card.
Considering the individual expressed concern at going to a third party website, contacting the manufacturer for the video card / laptop is the next viable option.

@Frey: Oh, I didn't know that nvidia.com now has notebook drivers as well. That's neat. Then that is the first place to go to, of course.
(Still, the drivers from laptopvideo2go should be mostly safe, in particular, if you do it by hand: Get the binaries from nvidia, but replace the .inf.)

Kinda tells me that the new update didn't install the textures right. Reinstall NWN and re-update straight from a newly downloaded critical rebuild.

Yups, all the stuff you got issues with is added in the 1.69 update (Wiltun tileset, Bendir PLCs, new doors, etc). Ergo, the problem lies with the update.

No, it didn't.
Tried going to those links given above. Nothing. I'm pretty sure I'm missing texture packs, yes. But, I don't know how to get them.
Like stated, it's no big deal.

Installing Using Downloaded Linux Client Resources
1. Download and extract the contents of the Linux Client Resources (nwresources129.tar.gz, 1.12 GB). This file is available for download from these mirror site(s):
Linux Client Resources v1.29 - Fileshack
Linux Client Resources v1.29 - BioWare
Download this huge file and just extract / replace the texture files with the ones you have. Make backups beforehand, and check if any are a different size or missing altogether. It doesn't matter that it is for linux when it comes to the textures.
