I would really like to know, but I scanned the lore forum and I couldn't find it. And yes, you know I skip information..

The problem with the one that keep the mind on the big picture and is horrible with details. So, if anyone can enlighten me, I would appreciate.

That's ... odd that Amia I is set after Amia II. No wonder our characters can't transfer over.

That was last updated on Nov 30 2007 though. So... are we kind of lingering on the year 1375 DR?

1374. The info is old. 1375 sets us in Spellplague. no one wants that.

And yes, we are permanently frozen in 1374 DR... unless you WANT to go into 4e.

"The Spellplague is a malady that struck Realmspace on 29th Tarsakh, 1385 DR and was caused by Mystra's assassination at the hands of Cyric and Shar"

You're right. So why did we move back a year?

While I could suggest that an event happen that allows the heros of the realm to try and stop such a catastrophic event, I know that the time for epic deeds like that has passed on Amia. The fact that we can't just say that doesn't happen and let time continue to progress, using only information that pertains to Amia, I don't know.

My guess is because Selvetarm is killed by an Eilistraeen and Vhaeraun is killed by Eilistraee herself in 1375. Also, Kiaransalee is killed in 1377 by an Eilistraeen. Eilistraee herself also dies in 1379, effectively making Eilistraeens Dark Elves again. All that might make a number of people mad and/or sad I'm sure.

Also 1375 is the kickoff of the shadovar/sembian wars, and nobody wants to deal with arseholes playing Shadovar race humans running around being even MORE arrogant than usual.

Leave 4th Edition AWAY from Amia. I would play it in a new server or even PnP. But, not in Amia.

So, if Amia is probably in 1384 to avoid all that? or we just ignore all this lore and continue with 3.5 edition? I dont have the 4th edition and I know only what people tells me about it.

It's always seemed to me that Amia is missing a lot of 3.5 lore, too, which is odd if it's only set a year before 4.0.

Also, it's not as if we need to stick to the lore Wizards feeds us. We can just as easily let time pass normally and say, "Spellplague didn't happen".

The spellplague may start in 1385 DR but 1375 DR is when all The Really Bad Things start happening, like gods dying, etc, etc.

Oh, and Halen, your little barbed comment against the DM team is awesome, but if you have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything. We get it. You're mad at us.

Sidenote: Your epic event would have to be mortals stopping Cyric and Shar from killing Mystra. Deity on Deity combat. I don't really care what server you're in, that's just not something mortals can do. Even Finder Wyvernspur was given the spark of divinity by Tymora when he slew Moander, and Moander was a punk. Shar and Cyric are not.

If we don't use any of the canon events, why forward time at all? Really it introduces the wordt part of it: We have to create an official Amia Timeline and how fast time passes. Right now, Speed of Plot works just fine.

I don't mind getting stuck in 1374. If it avoids all the changes on the 4th Edition.

It was constructive, Tormak. And you don't have to fight the god person on person to try and stop thier objectives. You can mess with the plans they put in motion by thier mortal followers, disrupting the source of thier power, etc.

While I like the idea of trying to stop the Spellplague, it seems like an unstoppable force (three Greater Powers) vs a glass vase (us).

I just think Spell Plague is a covered up Deus ex Machina (or an asspull according to TVtropes definition) to allow Wizard to completely disregard the years of built-up lore.

As far as I know, the last interesting thing that happened before fourth ed was the resurrection of Bane in 1372

What about the Silence of Lolth? 1372-1373

I'm curious, did it happen on Amia? I don't remember that it did.

I didn't think it did (that's what I was told from a non-DM source anyway). If it did, then that would be the last.

We did our own mini Lolth's Silence that is unrelated to the events of WotSQ and Lady Penitent.

re: Spellplague. My active reasoning for doing it is the obvious one. It was a pantheon cleanup. My figuring is that WotC simply thought ther were too many deities. So they used he Spellplague to offer a "new" FR to new playes, cleaned up and killed any "useless gods", and merged some of the similar ones as aspects, something that was foreshadowed years ago in the Gruumsh/Talos bit.

I don't like it any more, but t's valid reasoning. All I care is that they killed Shaundakul and for that they can burn. :(

I hate that they made Talos an aspect of Gruumsh, Yondalla an aspect of Chauntea and that Nobanion, Eldath, Urogalan, Finder, Shaundakul and Rillifane Rallathil all were "missing".

Yondalla is the mother of Halflings for the love of god! Talos is pretty much the ultimate evil nature god. They should have at least made Malar a greater deity to make up for his loss or something.

Nobanion is awesome, Eldath is totally needed as a truly peaceful Druidic goddess, Urogalan is very important to Halfings since he protects their dead, Finder and Shaundakul are just fun and Rillifane Rallathil is rad! Rillifane Rallathil should have at least been made an aspect of Silvanus, he was totally a goodly Elven version of Silvanus anyway.

Looking at all that, they really screwed Halflings over. They're left with only four gods now. Their matriarch and protector of their dead were both taken away. In other words, their giver of life and their guardian in death are gone. How grim is that?

Drow were kinda screwed over too. All they have left is Lolth.

I get that, but I can't help and think of it from the RL perspective of damning the offspring of a murderer and calling them murders for the doing of their family before them. ::shrug::

You should look into relatively non-ancient history. In religions, especially, people have a tendency to be damned for all eternity based on sins of their ancestors.

The Thunder Blessing happened a while ago, but it's only now having an effect obvious to outsiders: the dwarves born under the Thunder Blessing are reaching maturity and getting out into the world.

I edited the R&L thread to fix the time.

What we should do, IMO, is clearly define which events happened and which didn't, and then move Amia permanently a few years into our own future. That way, there's reasonable distance to canon events (so that we won't have PCs who participated in the elven Crusade that's supposedly happening right now, but have existed on Amia for a year or two). Gives us freedom to pick up canon events and build our own stories and conclusions for them if we so wish, too. But it's a lot of work, and nobody likes work!

For a sample of why we're not in 1375 or late 1374:

- Zhentarim take over Shadowdale. Their control in Shadowdale is broken and Scyllua Darkhope is slain. Mourngrym resigns, and Azalar Falconhand (son of Dove and Florin) takes up the mantle of Lord of Shadowdale. Fey return to the Dale in large numbers.

- Myth Drannor is re-established and the Tree of Life planted.

- Khelben Blackstaff Arunsun dies, resurrecting a city of ancient Miyeritar and cleansing part of the High Moor while he's at it.

- Elminster vanishes and his tower is hurled into another plane.

- Civil war in Thay between the Zulkirs

- Halaster dies, Undermountain (I think) is destroyed. This is what really chills me whenever I read about it.

- The drow deities die.

From there, events get more and more dramatic. While it doesn't necessarily make bad fiction, it certainly makes playing the game difficult: a lot of stuff from recent game supplements is invalidated, and established facts of the Realms are suddenly changed. All of that is not recorded in the source book the average player uses, but rather in a few recent novels and the Grand History of the Realms. That's why the major changes are bad. (Not to mention my favorite two mages, Khelben and Halaster dying is outrageous!)

No idea. It seems perfectly pertinent to me.

And I like Blackstaff.
I suppose that should be past tense now, but if I refuse to acknowledge fourth ed it never happened.

Did a bit of date checking. All of these changes had a bit to do with changing in writing staff and the like as well. Fan Fiction derived from the Dungeons and Dragons game worlds was maturing a bit and the little literary 'circle of life' that happens when stories become self perpetuating started.

Just look at what happened to the bible during the Reformation.

That's not to mention copy write issues and changes to intellectual property laws (seriously).
