I think the current quests are great. I do all that I find. Unfortunately I don't find many.
Nor do I, hence my previous post.

Although the newest ones in Wiltun/Caraigh/Frozenfar are not in it.
On Þorbjön, the famed hero and bughunter that landed me the horrid duties of a tester, I have done almost all of them. I should tackle the new ones some day though. All that exploring rarely visited areas and doing quests no one else does was damn fun. Proper grounds for adventure, if you can find anyone else who has the patience for it.

If it makes any difference, I've done every quest on that list aside from the Forrstakkr ones, due to having never really been around the area up there.

Amia doesn't work that way. If it's really that much fun being all hardcore and permadeadly, then go ahead and do it yourself. If it looks like you're having more fun than me, then I'll give it a go. Since I see Amia as a computer game I play as a hobby in order to get kicks from splatting virtual monsters with my buddies and making mucky jokes via the medium of an avatar with a funny accent, and not as some ongoing work of improvised literature that will divulge profound truths about the human condition and must be treated with grave diligence and respect for the Holy Lore, that's very unlikely.
forcing a respawn penalty on someone is flat out stupid. If I die in game I log off and don't come back until the next reset, unless i am raised by party members. I
Am I being 'better' for dealing with PC death by forcing the character to take a leave of absence?

Bah.. I didn't see, this thread before. It already sort of adresses my concern, posted on the other one. >.<

I dont really have any strong oppinions regarding the possible exploit since I ahve never been involved with anyone doing it so far, but the statement that you loose a huge amount of XP and gold on respawn is so unrteasonable that i just have to say this: Anma has one of the lightest xp and gold penalties of all RP servers, heck, even StormNexus had harsher penalities when I played abit there. And taking into consideration how easily xp is aviable on Amia, its not really a penalty at all. Now, i ahte making comparisons to others ervers, but on The Three Kingdoms you would get dying penalties twice, on death and on respawn, and those could be as much as 30k xp for a level 30 character, on a server with 1/10 of the XP gain Amia has.
Amia is obviously not 3kds, but I just wish to put things in perspective: The respan penalty on Amia is in fact more or less non-existant, and not much to complain over.
\
Its not the respawn penalty thats the problem its the low xp gain for hours of grinding and then the slap in the face of losing it.
Yeah, not everyone is a good builder, i know i'm not all that great at it, i'm lucky if i can find an average build without tips from someone else, also the fact i prefer hunting alone or with summons rather than looking for a party. So if you're in this kind of position, thePenalty of Respawning can hit you hard.

As for dying and then swapping servers at all, it makes no sense. A-mia and B-mia are the same server. If your character dies on A-mia, they're dead on B-mia aswell from an IC standpoint. It's not a relevent point to make to allow swapping servers if you die on either of them, you're dead on both..
I didn't bother reading the whole discussion, just the first few posts.
I'm guilty, I did it, thinking that it was allowed because you had to wait around for someone to voluntarily raise you in the entry. But, I won't be doing it anymore.

This is a roleplaying server. Roleplaying comes first. Anything that gets in the way of roleplaying is well ... a bit rubbish. And this includes being a bit crap, suffering from lag, DCing in front of 12 trogs, having to deal with a snotty pre-teen's latest drama like RIGHT NOW! I just wanna play. Have fun. Stab or zap stuff. But most of all roleplay. Yah, death is a part of the adventurer's lot, but please don't impose rules on it. Let me play it.

This is no joke. If it wasn't unfair to other players trying to log in and added to the fact that it would be incredibly boring, I would seriously let my character lay dead wherever he fell forever (or until reset) as it is, having a unusable character is no fun in any way. Logging out and swapping to an alt until such a time as the server resets is the only way to get a character raised from the dead without it rubbing me raw. However I would personally not find it harsh in any way to have that character still dead in the same spot it died after resets. Meaning if the character dies in the spires, the next RL day he is still dead in the spires. If there are other characters that care about said dead character then they should have the opportunity to use RP and/or PnP spell/scrye methods to determine the location or situation of said dead character in order to attempt to do something about it. Yes I am a hardcore RPer and a pretty good builder, but I would rather have to wait it out for days, weeks, etc in game to be rescued than to auto assume some good samaratin dragged my corpse to the nearest temple and had him/her ressurrected.
Well let's say you get helped to a temple by someone who isn't a goody two shoes. Either they expect you to pay them or they take what they want without asking.
Because you're dead, you have no way of affecting the outcome of anything, including your own revival. If there is to be a chance of you being revived at all, you have to accept the possibility that the first someone to find you may not drag you to a temple for altruistic reasons but because they want to be compensated.
The real XP penalty is losing the XP you could be getting if you weren't dead and not hunting.
This is especially true if a party is really blasting along and then something funky happens an they all die. The amount of downtime there is the real XP penalty. The nominal XP penalty usually should be instantly taken by one party member and get the party back up and running ASAP. The time it takes for the monsters to despawn and then get everyone raised and rested usually results in a bigger XP loss than just clicking respawn!
At least I found it to be that way. 100xp per level really isn't much.
The 2nd and last time I logged into server A after dying to get a raise and then get back onto the spires in B was specifically because I was in a party with one other player. Level 26 and I used 8 haste potions to get back to the him as quickly as possible in order to raise him so nobody would have to respawn. 2600 xp is no joke when you're only getting 10-30 per kill. That averages to 130 kills. With about 5 creatures per spawn, that means it would take another 26 spawns to get back what I would have lost if I had respawned, or about another 1-2 hours of playing time. Personally I don't have that kind of free time to waste on regaining everything I just lost. I would rather spend that time RPing than grinding.
Of all my characters this specific one is the higest level of all of mine and I have been playing here for about 2 years now. Obviously I don't power level in 5 days. I only have 2 epic level characters and I play about 15 hours or more a week.

If you want to make the best of your free time then don't go into a lair of giants with just two guys and expect not to get your arse whooped. When you have a full team, then you actually have a Plan B if things go wrong.
You (any player) haven't really lost anything of value if you lose 2600xp, unless you let the whole screwing up and dying thing spoil your fun. So it'll take a little longer to nail that next level, big deal. Is it the RP that makes your character worth playing, or is it numbers on a stat sheet? Seriously, help me out here, I'm confused.
Here we go again trying to find reasons for something that is clearly an OOC nicety provided by the server and those that run it.
Why not just use the perfectly logical reason..... magic.
It just happens.... no need to find a reason... no need to explain it.
Spellplague did it.
Darn those Salandrans trying to help everyone >< Hey, by tenet, they should be out in all sorts of places looking for those who can't come to them for help.
*Obviously less worried about this.*
If people are going to abuse it, then yeah, maybe a lock on only being able to respawn within 10 min of a reset in the entry. Of course, then groups who want to take a risk probably make "plan B, we'll got 20min before reset in case we die". Given, that can be done with 1server alone as it is. Who knows until we see it being a trend, really?
Now what would be interesting if possible is if a lock can be put on being raised in an entry until the server you die on has had 1 reset. [Aka, die on B, go to A entry, can't be raised until B-side has gone through a reset because you abandoned your chance to wait it out on B-side.]
Who knows!? Just going with the flow and doing tha' best to be kind about it at the OOC level of whats fair.

Those were two different responses and were taken out of context.
The 26th level character in question can solo giants with ease. The reason the characters died was a fluke. We both were RPing while hunting, before hunting, and after hunting.
The fact that respawning would have negated more than the XP we had earned at that point is irrelevant to the other response you quoted. Rp and XP have nothing to do with each other unless you consider the fact that DC coins can be used to earn XP which IMO is a waste considering their other uses.
Last night I spent about 4 hours doing nothing but RPing after I got home from LARP. No XP gained. No DC coins earned. Just for the sheer enjoyment of RPing.
I've always believed that even if you're whole team gets wiped and you have to respawn, that your character has still learned something. Even if it's only "Don't group with those same people and let them do the same thing."

I didn't want to put the whole thing in my reply. It creates quote bunnies later on.
Whatever level your characters are, if you have more numbers than just two then you have more chance of being raised on the spot. Being able to solo giants with ease isn't the same as being risk-free. Problems can occur between chair and keyboard.

I started by saying You (any player) which doesn't mean you specifically. Sorry if that's confusing. Allow me to rephrase:
Any player who loses XP due to a respawn hasn't lost anything of value. They aren't going to wake up the next morning and still be lamenting the loss of their precious XP. The value is in how they got it or tried to get it i.e. the fun part, and no amount of XP penalty will take that away.
They haven't lost time if they've spent it in good company and in the pursuit of fun. They truly have lost that time if their purpose was to try and increase a number on a stat sheet to try and match another number to gain a new level, even if they succeed at just that. They can't enjoy a game for what it is if they're watching some progress bar like a hawk.
I'm not saying that what happened was especially fair, but the game is a vehicle for fun; your fun. I'm not going to tell you how to have fun, but I can tell you what will suck all the fun out of it, and that is approaching the game like it's a spreadsheet.
Roleplaying is what makes playing NWN worthwhile, even if a player barely says two words while they're in combat or between fights. The fun is that you're not fighting alongside Generic Dwarf 36729, he has a name and an attitude and a mean-looking axe. He may be a little stereotypical of his race, but if you've spent more than ten minutes with this character you know he's far from generic.
I'm not saying a player can't have some fun without playing the role of a character, but why would they go to all the trouble of picking out a name, selecting a class, and so on, if they weren't already forming some sort of attachment to who that character will be?
An XP penalty, or how to avoid one, shouldn't be a source of great concern. Getting back in the action is, because every minute you're laying there is a minute that your character is neither here nor there, you can't roleplay them unless someone specifically uses the PnP spell Speak with Dead (assuming everyone's okay with that).
