Alright everyone who knows me out there will recognise me ass Belladonna, my very cute an possibly sweet hin ranger. I had thought to play with her for just about forever to the extent of not bothering to make another character for a long while.
However just recently an old friend returned to amia after a break away and sugested that I might try something new to keep things fresh.
Now two things I will openly admit to, the first being that I have never played as a drow or any 'evil' character on amia as I had been nervous about creating ooc tensions. And the second is that I have never played as a mage since my days of the DnD Board Game.
However I have got to say that the drow player base out there in amia is one of the nicest and most welcoming groups of people I have run into. They have been nothing but kind, welcoming and patient (ooc of course) whilst I get to groups with a new system.
Anyway I suppose the point of tis rambling is just to say to other who might be like me out there....dont be affraid to try the dark side, it doesnt make you a bad person afterall
ALso if anyone else has similar experiences they would like to share, please feel free to do so.
Good luck with that. I personally have a hard time playing evil characters. It always makes me feel bad. Even with single-player games, it's tough for me to play the bad guy... It doesn't help though when the choices are usually (A) "Yes ma'am, it was a pleasure to return all of your jewels and daughter safe and sound and vanquish the evil wizard without being tempted to usurp his power! No reward necessary!" -or- (B) *Kill woman, burn down house, steal jewels, punt puppy*.
My best efforts to play an 'evil' character come from playing a bumbling crook who just can't seem to ever get anything.

awe he's a fluffy bunny too
It helps when you totally separate yourself from your character philosophically, it's like define a philosophy for your character and think what would they do? ...given they believe in this-this-and-this set of rules or guidelines.
For example:
I personally might think world peace is something worth trying for, my character may think there's no way in hell so why try? Someone asks my character to go on a political mission to unite several factions ..character is like 'so?' "someone will just screw it up later on anyway."
..personally I would give a diffrent answer, of course. ^^

Bioware is terrible with alignment things. They really are. Obsidian is slightly better, oddly enough, but still not really good at all. I never could figure out how to be a Sith -and- have Kreia like you!
I know the feeling, though. I have a lot of trouble playing evil in Single Player games. The NPCs get so sad, and disappointed, and I feel guilty.

I know! Even my most evil PC has a soft side. Its really disappointing, personally. I just cant completely separate it, so i have to rationalize his actions, and it can be a stretch.
Anyway, welcome!

I make his words mine, too. *sigh*
I fail at making utterly evil PCs.
And, arr! Welcome to the Dark Side!

Well everyone has a good and dark side, it's what side you choose to follow that matters. Even the darkest of amian characters may have a soft spot or two. (it reflects real life)

Same here. In Bioware's game Knights of the Old Republic, the part where the game makes you
kill Mission
if you choose the Dark Side path made me turn off the game, because I couldn't bring myself to keep playing. (I eventually reloaded from an old save and beat it.)
I'll throw in a piece of wrestling advice Freebird Michael Hayes gave Mick Foley once, which I think applies well if you want to play an evil character.
"In his mind, a heel has to feel his actions are justified. It doesn't matter how far out his motives... As long as he feels he's right!"

Pft. I liked that part, but it did make me sad. I always had more trouble with the little stuff, especially on Kashyyyk. I could never side with what's-his-name and let Czerka take over, so I always got Light Side Points.

We did just like have a 5 page forum on evil characters, or rather several across the forums
..there's also a topic about more new players. O.o
It was an in joke, Az
Anyway, the drow are generally warm and welcoming, despite what people may have heard. We're always in a nice large party so you can quickly get acquainted and ask for help.

when my evil characters cook up something diabolical, i look at it as a good
thing i'm totally different from this and and i'm glad i could come to terms
with that.
set fire to kittens, threaten old ladies, mercilessly butcher everything that
doesn't think the way you do( within server PvP rules) it's all good
Your experiences are much like my own, Athyonn. Back in the day, I was getting a bit bored with surface RP. It was too vast, spread too thinly across the playerbase, too inconsistent for me to get truly involved in. When I tried drow, I was immediately sucked in. I was welcomed and advised before I even created the character, and immediately in game I was being introduced to PCs, given quests, getting a reaction. Udos Dro'xun, and later Ultrinnan, was a community. Everyone was interconnected through rivalry, alliance, hierarchy. The roleplay was just so much more inclusive and immersive. Good luck with it, I had some of my best times on Amia in Ultrinnan.

If you really want to taste the Dark side, come to Tarkuul.
I have no issue playing Frey as the evil bastard he is.... and there's a reason for that.
Hate - Frey has an entire backstory that happened IG / IC on Amia that has made him the way he is - elements of the Weave Knights... betrayal, lies and the rest.
He was originally Lawful Neutral when the character was first created in 2006.
And the biggest thing you can do when playing evil? Remember the other character there has someone else playing them too.
It's important to have a good OOC understanding when your playing evil, especially with your fellow evil PC players. Communication, and clear communication of one's expectations and the like are necessary, otherwise someone will misunderstand and take something the wrong way.
Regards,

Also remember, there is short term evil and long term evil.
Short erm evil: Sacrifice people, kill people on sight, etc.
Long term evil: Spoil the hate in someone so high that all they can think about is revenge, killing everyone who disagrees with them. <- That is one of my most favourite thinks I ever did as a Drow, not killing an elf on sight but paralizing him and then mocking him to turn him to the 'dark side'.
Anyways, hae fun playing a Drowsie ^^

Like frey I made Ray a almost neutral character, more towards evil due to pre amia happenings. He was open to change and still is, however amia life betrayel, defeat, loss and the rewards that being evil have gained him make him the way he is.
Infact Sometimes I think he has rubbed off on myself in some aspects. I do however wish amia had more evil evil players. My main hate is seeing a mass murderor sit down and swear his love for his wife and child.
Evil characters are boring as long as they have nothing to lose. That's the flip side of the coin when the players choose what happens to their character at all times.

oh blow it out your arse numbers ya git Tarkuul is awesome!
drow town is awesome as well i guess
the trick to playing evil is a bunch of things mentioned before, always think of the other person etc. I like to channel things from past present and possible future. It makes it a bit more easy to play a evil pc. Bottom line if your going to play a truly evil pc, youll have a love hate relationship. You as a human would never do these things, but your pc will. Ive grown to hate most of my drow a smuch as i love playing them, simply because they have no moral compass whatsoever
Evil characters are fun to play, but I can't do the evil for the sake of being evil kind. My preferred evil is more cold and calculating. Out for number one and screw the rest.
But, back on topic....
Welcome to the dark side, Athyonn..... we have the best cookies.

Drow aren't evil at all, try greenskins. You'll be in the sheer minority, you'll have (relative) access to both surface and underdark worlds and you can bully till your heart's content.

I know what you mean. I remember when I first went to Ultrinnan, some two and a half years ago. I was hooked too, loved it. But ever since leaving almost a year ago, I haven't looked back. Nothing against the good people and friends I made while RPing heavily in Ultrinnan, but yeah... I won't say much of why I never went back. All you need to know is, I didn't and I won't. Have fun and good luck down there!
Oh, and I agree, Tarkuul IS THEE Dark Side . RAWR! Eat your heart out Ultrinnan!
Bah, greenskins are all too disorganised and cowardly, skeleton huggers are just emo wannabee goths, drow simply the BDSM circuit.
If you want to play a true bad arse, play a Shadow Elf! They're the ultimate bad arses of all bad arses. More xenophobic than the Drow, more wild than wild elves or orcs, more whiter than vampires, more stealthy and cunning than cyricist or zhent, able to see in even magical darkness, they are the emodiment of the true dark side...hehe...

I'm thrilled for you. I hope this good circle just keeps growing.
Yup, it is hard roleplaying evil, but when I feel as if I really "get it", it is wonderful. You can't get much further from RL than that, and that's what this interest is all about for me. Come all, to Ultrinnan!

There is a far more sinister threat on Amia, horrid creatures championing capitalism and privatization of public services as well as advocating dreary monoculture, plotting to render each unique café into a McDonalds or Starbucks - The Partners of the ACTF!

I actually made a Lawful evil character who was convinced his goals were working towards a better world. (I can't say much more about them here, wait until Amia 2, and then they may become clear). But he was lawful because he had a code that he had sworn too, and he was evil, because outside of that code he would do ANYTHING to fulfill his goals to work towards that better world.
A True "The Ends Justify the means" kind of guy, if he had to burn down the orphanage which held a targets illegitimate child to get the guy to come out of a hidey hole, he would. He just wouldn't burn down the Orphanage for funsies like quite a lot of Evil PC's I see.
He was cold, he was calculating, but not out for number one in the slightest.

I made a character for nwn2 with a very similar mindset to that Difference is she's chaotic good and a "Do whatever's neccessary to achieve the victory" personality.
