The only interaction my character has ever had with DMs have all been traumatizing, awful, terrible experiences. She's had her eye ripped out by a clockwork, ended up in the possession of an ancient artifact that summoned hordes of balors at random, possessed her, and made her -eat- one of her closest friends...

... maybe I'm a masochist... but I miss it. ;_;

[edit] Took that last part out to prevent metagaming. >_> <_<

*Halen's line goes dead, and then a voice speaks mysteriously through the earpiece*

She's lying. The Thayvians did it.

*With a Listen check, DC 10, you notice that the call is coming from inside the house. What do you do?*

Oh yeah, once my Elven dude got darkness'd and killbutton'd within two seconds by a jealous DM. Explanation afterwards: "A drow did it." That was rather silly. Well.. now he's traumatized and an arse so I guess that amounts to something.

I wonder how old many of these issues are, really... seems I recognise a few events from a few DMs - urr years - ago.

Roll with the punches works both ways. A DM shouldn't have a senario so scripted that players aren't allowed to find creative ways to get from point A to point C just because they aren't touching point B with a ten-foot pole.

So far, I think it's been pretty good, and I love interaction. There was one time alone that I got angry, and the DM in question was breaking and crossing so many lines in one go. But I went with it, since there wasn't much else I could do.

Well, yeah. I don't mean so scripted that they get pissy if someone goes off their path of ideas. It's good to have a plan A, B, and C depending on what occurs. Like, if there's an attack on Winya, it's good to know what'll happen if the players lose or win. The DM has to be a bit flexible too, you know. I kinda discovered this forum-RP-modding for awhile. I basically 'DM'ed the RPs occuring. Certain things could only be done by me, so I had to kinda be creative when someone would do the exact opposite of what I thought they would. Not quite the same thing, since on Amia the DMs have to think on their toes more than I did.

Not that I really need to tell you that. :)

Uhh. Yeah. I would think the DMs now would know better than to do what occured say, three years ago. History doesn't always need to repeat itself ... and maybe some people should kinda let go of those incidents if the DM in question isn't even around anymore. (Banned/Left/Whatever.)

It is hard work for them to be a DM, but ultimately they're trying to make it more enjoyable and interesting for you the player.
Sure, they could leave yo to your sandbox, but random things happen and it's fun (my heretic drow got blessed by Lloth :P Don't play her anymore but it was nice)!

thats funny my heretic drow didn't bow to lolth.. used her body guard and sister as a distraction..and ran to shar's temple so Lolth couldn't harm her >.>

But sometimes if something really negetive is about to happen I think sometimes maybe a warning when I mean "negative" i mean possibly your chracter will have to swap classes negative. other than that.. I always have and always will have my pc's respond to npc's even when they aren't possessed.. like that guard who i swear when ever he see's keri he checks his batton.. and she starts covering her face and saying don't hit me.

What I don't see often enough, is DMs possessing Boss Monsters when you're on a run and giving you a proper "run for your money" by fighting the way a PC would. I'm trying to recollect where I used to see this alot but it escapes me. It totally throws a party into utter confusion when that happens but it has to be one of the most fun ways of ending a monster bash....if you live...

I also used to deliberately ask a DM to double the spawns in an area and make it a real challenge. I know few other players like that...(just last night I had two party members complain that something was too challenging, even though it was do-able). Perhaps I'm just crazy, but I love it when the DMs throw in a twist like that. :)

Short answer: Yes. People complain if we step in to do stuff.

Thats horrible!
I think the worst I've ever complained about was OOC junk and even my own fault until I knew better!

DM's really arn't that scary!

This must be those folks that don't say "Hi [DM]" once in a while even. They are human, well, at least they can pass as human by earth standards.

And we have a winner!

Yes. If we possess a spawn and you kill it while it is possessed, you don't get XP or gold. So we have to try to unpossess it rapidly before you kill it so you get what you deserve. Which can never be predicted when the PC is a Dev Critter.

Also, 9 times out of 10, it is, "That is totally uncool and not fair, DM. I prepared to fight it the way it is supposed to be, the way it is every time I come here. By changing it and making it do something else, you're deliberately picking on me."

Ugh...

Maybe some of them accidentally clicked the 'multiplayer' button and not what they meant to do - resume the solo game at the last save....

I'd take a DC from RP-hunting with a DM possessing for even a couple of hours above the xp I'd get in that time. Or even without the DC it's great fun

The only annoyance I seem to get with DMs around is that everyone starts making circles around the NPC in control. And that’s really more of a good thing I guess, since people take interest; Or just want a DC... Probably both.

It's official. People are stupid.

Side note to DM's: Feel free to put my characters through Hell or High water.

I remember a DM controlling the Neg Plane Draggy.

That was an epic fight that i'll never forget.

Especially when the second Dragon spawned.

Note that the event I described up there was long, long ago and that DM is not among your ranks anymore. I really appreciate when you guys do what you do. To be honest.. if I did that sort of work, people swarming me whenever I possess an NPC would annoy the hell out of me. At least they could mask their greed a little don't ya think.
