Well, that's one side of the issue.
I do think we (as the management) have been a bit too tight when it comes to player events in the past. However, can't say I will blame the DMs for that. It's a rather lousy task to facilitate player's events when you know that whatever you do you'll be sorry afterwards and you will be the one that has to clean up the mess too. It's not a matter of PvP-freaks vs RP-snobs, btw. Bad vibes are heard at the most unexpected places when people don't get their way.
I've been in plenty of player events, and only one that ever involved a DM directly. People often look to others to create the fun or setting for them, when they don't realize they can do so themselves. Personally I find the smaller, less big and epic player events to be the more interesting and amusing ones.. Doesn't have to be an event even. I've plenty of times simply set up a camp in a publicly travelled road, and it's ended with a 20+ player count on the beach, involving a drow raid at some point and a hunt trough the dark.

All this talk about people having to hurry and get to 30 brfore finding meaningful RP....that's complete bunk. I have had Frin now for dang near 3 years RL and she has never passed lvl 17. Yes there have been many (4) rebuilds, but I just don't spend alot of time hunting to get my levels. In fact I think something like 5 of her levels have come from DC burns. I view gaining levels as a great reward when out and about with a group that is RPing as they go. If I get saddled with a leveling party I tend not to last long and end up back somewhere else there is RP to be had. It is all in how you approach others for RP, and I have found that the ones that try and "force" their version on others don't get very far, so we all just need to keep that in mind.
On another but similar note. As soon as I get my PC back up and running correctly, you can always search out Reen or Frin for some RP as I am sure at least one of them will suit your character, as they tend to mesh well with just about anyone.

Yeah! That always got my chaps chapped... people racing thier way to lvl 30 before they'd ever spend time RPing. Infact some have told me that until thier character reaches 30, that the only two words thier characters speak icly is "Heal" and "Go".
Character Developement is important and level progression helps represent certain aspects of this developement.
Where would mage rp be without the studying of spells, the research of theories, and for the sorcerers the strange influence thier very persona has upon the world?
Halen was more fun to rp when he was lvl 16 than he is at lvl 29.
Edit: I know there is an urge to show up and be super-powerful and at the peak of your game, but seriously... once you reach that level seems to be that more of the time is spent in Cordor thinking of the good-old days... and you won't have any fun stories.

No, don't try something new, try something old! I think a clue is stop making a new character each week. If you stick with something, people will remember him/her and be able to include him/her in their plots.
Funny enough, I must be the exemption to this rule... I have so many characters so "I CAN" keep things fresh and new. Each character has a different personality (for the most part) so I can play who I want according to my mood. I'm up to about 25 now with each being unique in their own way.
Having been on Amia for several years I have seen alot of trends come and go, as well as change, which is also good, the players hear today aren't like the ones from the past, but the same can be said of RL so *shrugs*
And remember that there is a big range in age on Amia so some of the youngins might seem to be annoying but really just don't know any better
If you aren't having any fun, give your character a bum leg, an addiction and a bad attitude. Then go be the Greg House of whatever your character usually does.
In other news, dramatic tension doesn't magically appear overnight like presents from Santa. You have to build it up over time, even if you're just improvising, and you have to be patient. It's fun in the end when you use it for the right effect, but unless you're happy with pacing that drama so that it can take unexpected and entertaining twists, then making-stuff-happen is not actually what you were pinning your hopes on.
Experiment, be creative, and don't be afraid of getting it wrong. It's ironic me giving that advice when right now I'm the most uncreative, boring recluse ever. I guess that casually proves that those who can't do, end up teaching.

I am not saying the socializer-type roleplay is bad, but its really ridiculous to cater to it above all others.

Ever since the reveleation of your announced fictional pee pee, that in fact didn't exist, the feminine ironic bullets of selfpreserveration bounces off of me like water from a greased up pussy (read: cat).
I feel that unless your character inspires yourself you're not going to do anything interesting enough with said character to inspire people to take a second look.
If people tackled the story writing side of Amia more than the relationship building side of Amia, we would see a flourishing RP community rather than a glorified chat room.
Take a second glance at the lowbie characters. Think of ways to interact with them aside from robbing them of their gold or pvping them for their choices. Abduct one and force them to observe something deeply stirring to their character, or something.
Or better yet INDUCT one, to your army of loyal followers and overrun Cordor!
Basically you can summarize what I just said with: Roleplay to cause character development, not character solidification and stagnance.
Sub-races
Deity System
DC personalised items/PLCs
Impartial DMs
Secret Societies exist
Personalised Summons
BOT
Some great RP exists
PvP system is wonderfully well thought out
DCs!
well thought out portal system
hidden areas
XP for traps
Other stuff not included above
Things that could be better
DM Events run daily (aim for 1 DM event per day as 'normal' trend)
Good aligned Drow becomes platinum award
Underdark Expanded/racial centres included
Long stage by stage quests with a special shop at end opened up
Class specific solo quests
Culture change towards losing with grace OOC for PvP
More tropical areas (they're just cool okay!)
Underwater areas connected up a bit better
Some truly epic bosses with a 50/50 chance win/lose with full party
PvP Castle idea implemented
Culture of limiting party chat to an absolute minimum (90%Talk Channel/10% Party Chat) or removing party channel altogether (even on temp. trial basis)

..I can speak to the recent past of my evil sorc tho...
I have dominated a chosen of Malar and brought him to my superior as a pet offering.
I am trying to start something of a war...no details here, find me IC.
I have slain many a druid with my smevil necro, been captured and interrogated by the Kellies for almost an hour before an epic jail break escape took place with aid of fellow war buddy.
I've dominated two people making trouble in Bendir and taken a walk in the forest with them muttering about oh how dumb they were or some such.
I've changed my characters appearance several times this month exploring many fashions...some I dare not explore again.
I've been a 'greaser' who just loaded the Cordor market and the bathhouse with choking powder and darkness ontop of the grease spells from comrades...and then ran away chuckling all the time with haste spells as we change our disguises back to 'normal' clothing and return to observe the 'damage'. (this one wasn't originally my idea)
I've hitched a ride on a random drow's portal to 'the city' before teleporting away after a signature smevil chuckle.
I've set up toll booths charging people money for crossing public roads on the count of them not being a 'pure race' or pretty, or someone I knew...whatever my theif of a player felt like doing, before getting kicked out by a PC guard who I then used a confusion spell on which then lead him to kill a nearby drow, I chuckled called him an escaped mental patient and discredited his words all so the charges against me for toll boothing people would be seen as less credible.
I've been in a confrontation that resulted in Pvp over someone not sharing a piece of fudge cake...seriously.
I've hired assassins to kill select people who ticked my character off for whatever reason, all good in good fun.
I've developed a twisted philosophy of undead summoning where the undead summoned deserve to be punished and the eternal order is wrong by defending the murder's and other vile beings' undeserved eternal peace.
I've followed people for no good reason waiting for just the right time to show up out of nowhere with some creepy whisper of what they have been doing the past 10min.
I've been in disguise as a fortune teller who made up bogus fortunes about said persons future. I'd make the reading of the persons' future to include a confrontation with one of my enemies, who I happily described to them and then charged a fee for my 'services'.
...and then I've also epic boos looted.
What you can do is only limited by your imagination...and how much time you have.
I used to play only good aligned characters...and things got too peaceful, so I made a self-absorbed necro with personality trust issues and an imaginary moral standard....there's lots of options.

I'm just going to say be happy with what you've got now. Alot of those things you don't like aren't exactly possible (15 DMs spread over 300 players for instance) to implement.
DM Events run daily (aim for 1 DM event per day as 'normal' trend)
Hurgh... sometimes you're just not inspired, you know? It takes work to make those things go off nicely.
I agree, but little bits of a large campaign could get it working. They did it on Empires of Eternity and it worked quite well, ask Terra (who I think was there?). It might involve less play time on their PCs as DMs however and more DM time, DMing...I guess...
Disclaimer: That's not to say we're not thankful for all the hard work you guys do! I love it when DMs run events for us.

Sound, you have this trend of "but it worked here!", and... well, sometimes it's just not going to work here.
The DMs do what we can, but it does take time to make these things and run them off. There comes a point where pushing us for plot after plot will just wear us out. A lot of us actually are embroiled in our own lengthy plots at the moment, or have just wrapped some up.

I still think the culture change ones would have a much more profound effect on Amia than the daily DM event ones. DM events are fun and generate DC economy which can technically generate RP and stuff, and that's great! But we can all RP with eachother just as well if we just don't bite heads off at the first sign of bad weather!
I agree wih a lot of what is a said above, except the idea about removing party chat, it would just mean so much more ooc and // chat in the talk channel.
Not if you ban // OOC in the talk channel too..hehe..

Just because you don't think there's a DM Event going on every day because you don't see it, that's not true. It is rare that I "advertise" an Event. When I do, there's a reason for it. The rest of the events are subtle. If something big happens every day, the world stops making sense.
DM Events run daily (aim for 1 DM event per day as 'normal' trend)
-I doubt this would happen though, you could do things of the forums. Have more forum rp with DMs maybe.

Good aligned Drow becomes platinum award
-I would love this, I would absoulty postivily love this. I doubt it would happen but still I would love this. As long as it is only good drow, if it includes evil drow then I am not for it, one bit, but if drow required an application to start off as good, then yes. RP changes that make someone good, I would love to see that.

- again, yes, I am for this. I have wanted this myself for a long time, so I would love to see this.

Not sure on this one but it does sound neat.

- I am against this. I enjoy party chat, the old drow party chat was fun never new what could or would be said. thanks to tormy, I can now even easier set it apart from my rp stuff by having it on another chat bar and in a diffrent color.

It's all nice t say 1 DM event daily, but when do you stage it? No matter when, plenty of people will be complaining because it's not in their timezone.
