Not sure if this is the correct place to post this particular request, but seeing as the 'Requests' board is for DC/Character Change requests, the IC Notice and PC Story boards are more for... 'IC Looking For/Planning' directly, I figured this would be the most likely place to post.

Here's the request:
I'm looking for someone who's looking to make a new character, particularily either a Fighter or a Ranger (Or, if I can borrow two people for this, one of each). These characters won't be used CONSTANTLY, nor excessively often, but they will be focused 98% on RP (Therefore there's no extreme requirement to level them, unless you just 'want' to).

Preferably the player(s) involved are reasonably active, or -can- be reasonably active and can play for a reasonable amount of time while online and are willing to use characters as 'personal guards'.

My timezone is GMT -5, and I'm usually around from 4-6PM to around 3-7AM.

Once the decision is made, as to who'll be filling the spot(s), I'll give that/those player/s the information on the story and whatnot.

If you're interested and/or have questions, feel free to send a PM or message me in-game (95% of the time, I'm on A); I have the same account in-game as I do on the Forum.

Thanks. :)

Just a suggestion: It might be more interesting if you try and hire bodyguards IC- just put up a notice on the notice board. :)

Well, there's a reason I'm doing it this way; It's a storyline deal, rather than a... "LFP" post.

Oh, note:
These characters won't be made immediately (Story will tell why), but relatively soon (Likely within the next week or so, if I can find someone who's interested and capable by then).

There's no 'required/pre-created' name, the stats and gender of the character can be anything.

- Fighter character just needs to be a melee weapon (Not Monkish) class, not neccessarily Fighter (Although, not Paladin or Blackguard {I know it's a PC}).

- Ranger simply needs to be a character which is good with a bow, with the ability to hide at some point in their build (Assuming it would be leveled).

Hm, if anyone's been watching for me in-game due to this, I haven't been able to play for a few days due to lack of electricity. I should be able to gain it back in... No more than two days, I would say.

In ~ four days, I would say (May be delayed further if I still don't have electricity) the scenario will start then, if anyone's interested. Again, only looking for a player who prefers RP above all else (AKA, not all that interested in mechanical PvP or killing creatures constantly).

Looking forward to seeing everyone in-game.

Yay for power! Now that I'm back... I also have someone interested in playing the front-line character. I can launch with this, but if anyone is interested in playing the Archer, send a message and I'll give you the details.

Remember, questions are welcome; I know I don't give much information here (And there's a few reasons, some of which one can guess), so... Bombard me with the questions, if you like.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in game, as always. ;)

As soon as I get one more component neccessary for my character, this offer's closed. Already have the Fighter, so if anyone's interested in playing the bow-user, now's your chance to take it up.

Last call!

Remember, 98% RP and unrestricted time of use (AKA, can be used without my character being around, but there would be some {very few} down-times for the characters). Any name, gender, race, class, though it would be nice if the archer would end up taking SD if they were to level. They must be capable of using a bow. What kind, doesn't matter.

Note:
Because these are RP characters, I strongly suggest giving the characters -only- RP-based classes. That is, no Fighter/Wizard/Rogue, etc. Common sense judgement is neccessary in the creation of a Roleplay Build.

Again, any and all questions welcome. Bombard me!

Hurgh, please never mention "RP build" ever again, and then say "fighter rogue wizard" is a "powerbuild".

Har.

Would you say that a person who spent all their life training with a weapon, AND reading books & scrolls, AND picking locks, disabling traps, fiddling with numerous widgets that anyone else wouldn't usually understand is considered possible in such a way it would be common?

I wasn't saying it was a Powerbuild, I was saying that it doesn't make sense in the least to have such a build. It's not 'Roleplayingly Likely'.

No but a Cormyran War Wizard (WIZARD: See: UMD rogue dump) probably knows how to use armor and handle melee combat (armor profs, wep profs, disicpline dump, Tumbledump Rogue) and knows how to pick out their targets in a chaotic melee (See: Spotdump, Rogue).

I'd like you to define "RP Build" because it certainly seems that anything that isn't a 20 cha, 18 wis level 30 fighter is a owerbuild to you.

Not how I view it at all. The definition of "Powerbuild" to me is making a build that's ridiculously overpowering and makes little sense to be (But, ironically, -is-) a common multi-class choice.

A Strength/Charisma-Based Fighter/WM/Sorc makes perfect sense to me, simply because Sorcery is not defined by Books & Scrolls/Years of Practice. It's commonly referred to as a Bloodline-Linked Class. A character isn't capable of choosing their heritage... -We're- in charge of that. However, they can choose what they want to do with the rest of their lives - and if that's standing front-line with a weapon they've practiced with for years, that's their business.

A fighter/WM/Sorc would have his stats spread so thin that he wouldn't be able to walk down the street without stubbing his toe on a cobblestone and dying. Disgustingly mediocre, if not completely ineffective.

Not neccessarily true. We don't know the levels of the classes.

We could replace the Sorc levels with Bard levels, if you like; It's about the same thing. Bard is also linked to Bloodline, and they get UMD. Therefore, Bard's typically a common choice anyway.

Oh. Okay. I got you. You're in the "purposefully gimping my build makes me a better roleplayer" crowd. Carry on then, I have notihng to say that will make sense to you because you willfully reject the reality set before you and replace it with your own.

Bard. Is. Not. Linked. To. Bloodline.

Period.

Any schmuck can pick up a lute, practice, start going through rote magic, and gain Bard levels. You don't have to be an OMG DRAGON BLOODED individual to sing and prance about like a little faerie.

What good is a body guard if even the half-good builds in the server will cream it?

Guess you could avoid any PvP but there is something about the word body guard that makes me think this guy has to have some power behind him.

Did I misread something somewhere? Bard & Sorc are the only two classes which are capable of gaining RDD. You're right, it doesn't -look- right, nor does it -feel- right to have it a Bloodline-Linked class, but mechanically it's the only one of two classes that gain access to RDD.

EDIT:

And, that's not true, either, Torm. I have some decent builds prepared and they're not ranged outward to the point they're Roleplayingly Unlikely. And how a character is played, while -I- believe it should reflect on class, isn't usually the case in any NwN Server. Likewise, however, I have seen plenty of people who are very good Roleplayers and play rather... Strange, unlikely builds. I'm not trying to belittle those builds or those players, I'm merely -requesting- that the people working with me, avoid those with these characters if possible.

Please stop using the word "Bloodline Linked Class".

To me, Common Sense is what you advocate as "dirty powerbuildersssss they burnssesss usss"

The only reason that they're capable of taking RDD is because they spontaneously cast, which opens up for the rumor of sorcerers being descended from dragons. Bards get to jump on the RDD bandwagon, because they cast as sorcerers do.

Honestly I think you're so picky where you should just tell the players the exact builds you're looking for, because you sound like a "lateral thinking puzzle". There's 50 answers but you only want 1 and everything else is wrong.

"So there's this pool of sharks, and this guy, see, this guy, he swims across the pool, and doesn't get scratched. How did he do it?"
"Walked over it on rocks?"
"Nope."
"Killed the sharks?"
"Nope."
*insert about 5 minutes of banter*
"Okay, I give up. How'd he do it?"
"I lied. There were no sharks."

Ah, interesting. I should really eventually get a book instead of taking people's words for things.

While cruel and insulting and entirely untrue, that was humorous at the same time. Like your style, Torm.

Yes, the requisite for RDD is "any spontaneous arcane casting class." It just so happens there's only two of those in NWN. A Hexblade and a duskblade in PnP could also take RDD.

On a serious point trying to establish a group of players like this can be really difficult and very rarely works as we all tend to have other commitments and very few of us can comit to regular playing times.

But if you carry through with the idea then I wish you the best of luck, as I have tried being part of 'organized' groups in the past and they have worked well for a while, but eventually players will part there seperate ways. As is only natural whenyou have different people with different ideas.

Of course. I've participated and had decent luck with such small groups in the past, though. May be why I'm up for trying things out again. Whether we get the second person or not, though, we're pretty well set. Just wanting to offer in the extra spot, just in case someone else's interested. ;)

Regardless, looking forward to seeing everyone in-game! Roleplay and prosper... And don't forget to hug those Drowsies.

this really isn't a topic for arguing our opinions... at least it didn't seem that way in the original post.

Nope. Just a misunderstanding of a sentence got bent so far it got commented on and took off from there. Which, of course, happens. And there were a couple of amusing posts in the mix, and I learned something. So... All-in-all, it was fun.

I'll give it about another half a day or so, if anyone's interested. Any character which uses the bow, doesn't matter of race, class, gender, alignment, etc.

Questions welcome, all that.

Bard/Sorc are rumored to have dragon's blood in them, but isn't the only way/reason for it to happen. Sadly with a lack of any way to show draconic blood possibilities besides those two classes, RDD has them as a prerequisite.

no one stops bards/sorcs from becoming PMs or Blackguards or whatever infernalism implies. Hmm... I might just start playing my sorc/PM again. The use of cha instead of int doesn't hinder them at all, does it?

Infernalism implies Fiendish spells... 'Least to me.

Which is how I played a character a while back. Part-Devil only had spells due to its blood.

Sorcery could be from any intrinsically magical blood-line. Think of magic as the internet. Sorcery is PC, Wizard is Mac. Still the same internet. Now look at all the ways to get PC to connect to the net. Dragon's blood, infernal blood, aasimar blood, yaun-ti blood, tumor in the head, etc.

However, if you keep getting a 404 error, you're definately playing a Fighter.

The computer is working again, no thanks to me... The internet is really freakin slow... pinging 260 minimum for every server.... but anyways, thats small nuts compared to before so I can make the character whenever you need it. (preferably on the weekend though)
