When I think of elven, I think of scrawney annoying people things yapping like a chiwawa or Jack Russel at the mail man: extremely annoying to the point where you wish to grab a shotgun and shoot their heads off.

Most Dwarves that are regulars on the server don't speak in accents when talking to each other. It was an OOC agreement made ages ago due to how hardline some dwarves take with their accents. Newer dwarves wont know this. And alot of dwarves don't use accents at all.
The difference maker is that Nae, aye, ah'm, doot etc are an accent not mixing two different languages together. Since dwarves are a minority and common is the most used language when playing a dwarf for extended periods you sometimes forget that you don't need to throw the accent in when speaking {Dwarven}. Misunderstanding dwarves is also IC and i hate it when someone sends me a tell after a particularly thick sentence asking what he just said.
And personally i don't mind if 90 percent of the drow use Usstans, Xas', Dos', Jabress' on the surface as in no time flat my characters cam now ICly identify drow speak which with RP is grounds for pvp if they lack the proper documentation.
And yeah Drommon is hilarious.

I have a book that says duergar is pronounced DEW-ur-gar, with emphases on the dew part.
In scandinavic it's "dvaergar", still pronounced like that today, but it's actually the name for dwarves in our tongue.
When I play my duergar character, I meet other duggies and they all seem to speak a common dialect. Lots of "i" and no suffixes in their sentences. Is there a common knowledge about how duggies sound? What kind of dialect do they have?

Denmark lost it's placement in scandinavia in 1658 when the swedish king Charles X threw them out. But still, you might see the likeness in the words. In any case, the letter "U" has been written as a "V" until we got small letters in our alfabet and stopped writing on slates and wooden boards. I.e. dv(a)ergar, or duergar.

I only help them out when they're playing a dwarf who's not spent much time around mine, but if I'm *not* getting tells asking me what the hell they said, then I know I need to ramp it up some more.
Meh, I'm too late in this thread, but I just wanted to defend the drow-word-flavouring peeps a bit. When I first started playing drow, I treated it like a "When in Rome.." thing, and Rome is awesome! So what if it takes a bit of effort and might seem silly to Tormak?

I noticed that Scandinavians/Danish sound American. If I didn't know she was Danish I would have mistaken Shattered Gem/Qualiz as an American.

I shoot for a Bristol accent with my Flag character. Apparently if you ask an English person, the Bristol accent is the original pirate accent... And I did. And it was.

anyways I did get in the habbit of speaking in drow.. but mainly broke myself out of it appart from Xas Nau and Aluve.. oh and Vith'ir, but I do play a charac ter who came from another server which I stole an accent from a character on Amia because well it never suited that character and so I decided to use it because it was more fitting for a outlander who live in barovia for years than a drow mermaid dog troll what ever it was at the time, pioty I never foresaw I would bring that charcter back to amia.
