To those wishing to edit an existing portrait, the player Sylfwe said that anyone can send their pictures her way for full editing and "portraitifying". She can also do cosmetic works like changing eye colors and make elven ears, among others, just so long it is not a color do-over entirely. The name of the file cannot have more than 13 letters before the suffix "_h/l/m/s/t". If the name of the file is bigger than that, you will not be able to see your portrait: it will be showing as a blank square.

Send the files in ZIP or RAR format, not as individual TGA files. Please!

I need you to make the subject field of the email as follows: [Amia] Portrait of NameOfYourCharacter, so I can organize a list with the names of the characters included. It's also necessary because I noticed that some emails that have been sent without that designation end up in my SPAM folder.

Please, put the files in your override folder, instead of the portraits' folder. This way, they cannot be selectable upon character creation by mistake by you, but people will still be able to see them. Hopefully, this will also avoid new PCs using portraits "pertaining" to old PCs.

If you have a portrait in the pack but doesn't want to make it available anymore, PM me, so I can remove it as soon as possible. Someone else could have sent it on your behalf, if you did not send to me yourself.

If you are certain that you sent me your portrait, but it's not showing on the list (TXT file or Pack), send a PM to inform me. It certainly was not left out on purpose. While I might update rightaway, the 'fix' will be included only on the next pack because it's quite a lot of work (and a bit of hassle) to re-make the pack. I ask you to, please, be understanding. If you are too anxious, you can always send the compressed files directly to your friends.

If you have no idea how to edit a portrait for NWN, but you have an image you would like to use for your character, send the image file to me. However, I will only resize/crop files. I will not make full edits. Send it as quickly as possible. Please, don't send it one day before I make the packs.

It's possible that new players who downloaded the portrait pack and uncompressed it to their Portraits folder, rather than the Override, might be able to re-use for their characters, the custom portrait you picked for your character. While seeing a new player using your character portrait can be awkward, you cannot force the player to remake their character picking up another portrait. Putting a message asking people not to use your portrait might avoid this, but it's not guaranteed. It's still better than having no messages at all, though. In this case, if you want I can add one such message to your portrait for the next pack update. Just PM me your character name and filename.

Why the strict limitations?

I don't know.

Considering that people need to make a Request and pay DCs to have the portraits of their old characters changed, I thought I should mention it. I can just remove them. *shrugs*

As for the name of the PCs, that's because I will make a list so people will know which characters have their portraits on their pack, just like the list that's on the download page of the portrait pack.

Why not just gather a standard pack of 200-300 portraits for all Amians? Similar to the heads hak, so people would have to download it only once and know that whatever portrait they choose, it will have a high probability that other Amians will be able to see it too.

There would be no need to keep updating the pack to include every PC portraits. Just a suggestion.. please don't stone me.

I think the entire point is for people to include their own portaits, not just randoms off the internet.

Got Metalien Sikth's new portrait ready, I'm unsure if I wanna save the DC for a full rebuild or just switch portrait... currently I'm leaning towards a full rebuild

I will make a new pack, so, there will be both the old and the new available for download.

But, honestly, I will also ask Nekhy, now that you asked that.

If she wants the new ones to be added to the old pack, I'll do it just the same.

To everyone else:
I updated the main post.

It would be sensible for you to download the old pack, and just update it with the new ones. No need for seperate downloads, but a big one that you can download again whenever it's updated, simply overwriting the ones you already have.

I'll send Kalliniel to you, Kir'nack is already in.

Yeah, you could combine the files for this, Dri. The reason there's two on the uni server is because the system only accepted files of certain size, but on Amia's server we can use a bigger file. Just need to make sure there's no files with the same name, as they would overwrite each other.

Consider it done, then. Lemme download both packs and make them a single one, with the new portraits - unless if they have the same name.

Veggie: I will update the packs once a month. Send me your portraits until the end of the month and hopefully by the beginning of the next month it will be available for download. If you send after the beginning of the next month, it will only be available by the end of that month.

Problem with the current naming method is that if someone uploads a new portrait, you'll have to check that its not the same as another portrait already in the pack, but goes by a different character name.

It also makes the pack very unfriendly with other portrait packs.

That, unfortunately, is something that I cannot control and a risk everyone will have to run.

You can always send your portraits individually to those that might ask it.

EDIT: Actually, I can, if I check the portraits one by one. It's not as if I have more than 100 on the pack. I guess. Send it anyway.

EDIT 2: A question, probably to Tormak, since he already replied a few to me earlier: some of the portraits are named "Characterh. tga" instead of "Character_h.tga" and so on. Will the portrait still load or should I rename them to "Character_h"?.

The portrait still loads. I have plenty like that that I use currently for my characters.

I sent the current picture of Malphyrr "Mirshann" Kilani in rar format to adrikuhne@yahoo.com.br as requested

Currently she is a child character and I have other sets of pictures with the same name for future updates to replace the old ones.

Tormak was talking about the first post I made, which I editted and removed the things that were making it strict. ;)

To include your portrait on this first batch, email it to me until January 31st.

What are the width and height restrictions? Anyone know?

Step 1.
Using an image editor of your choice that supports the Targa (.tga) format, create a new blank image 256 x 512 pixels in dimension. Example software includes Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro.

Only the top portion of the image is displayed in the game, so that the actual size of your portrait is 256 x 400 pixels. The bottom portion of the image MUST be blank and unused. If it is not blank, your computer will light on fire and explode when you try to save your game -- er, well, or it might just crash.

Areas of the image:

canvas is the entire image
portrait is the area used by the game
blank is the unused area (but required)

You can also download the sample portrait I created, shown left. (This portrait is meant to be humorous, and should inspire you to do better!) You will need WinZip to unzip this portrait. If you view my sample portrait in your image editor, you will see it has the blank area described above. Remember, if you don't leave this area blank, you will experience crashes when you try to save your game.

Step 2.
Create your custom portrait, whatever it may be, in the 'portrait' area. Remember, even though the total size of the canvas is 256 x 512 pixels, only use the top 256 x 400 pixels as diagramed above for the portrait itself.

Step 3.
Now you need to create five versions of the portrait for the game to use. You have already created the largest version, so you can just resize it to make each of the four other smaller versions.

The dimensions of the five versions needed are:

256x400 (on a 256x512 canvas) - used for the Player Character Bio
128x200 (on a 128x256 canvas) - used for the character sheet
64x100 (on a 64x128 canvas) - used for the in-game portrait
32x50 (on a 32x64 canvas) - used for the party members and radial menu
16x25 (on a 16x32 canvas) - used for the chat thumbnail

Step 4.
You must save the images as Targa (.tga) files, (selecting the '24 bits' and 'uncompressed' options of your software). Compressed Targa files will not work in NWN. The filenames for the five versions must follow this pattern:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh.tga (for the 256x512 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl.tga (for the 128x256 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm.tga (for the 64x128 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs.tga (for the 32x64 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)

Where the prefix "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a name you create, is 1 to 15 characters in length, and the same for all five versions.

The 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't' that follows the prefix indicates the size of the image (Huge, Large, Medium, Small, and Tiny).

So for my sample portrait, I created these five images:

robinsample_h.tga
robinsample_l.tga
robinsample_m.tga
robinsample_s.tga
robinsample_t.tga

As you can see, my images all have the same prefix of "robinsample_" (since it is 12 characters in total, it follows the rule of being between 1 to 15 characters), and I also have each of the five versions - 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't'.

Once you have either created your portrait, or downloaded one, you can use it in the game.

Quotes needed, I believe. NWN will then automatically resize and make 5 proper correct worknig copies of your picture.

ConvertPortrait blahblah and the .jpg file called blahblah.jpg is converted to a portrait.

Remember to include your whole name of the character, using undescores for spaces. Simply so you don't get five characters all using the same NWN generated first name, and thus conflicts.

True to a degree. But your portrait is selected by you from the character creation screen. The only way this might be a problem is if you submit a pic using your PC's first name and someone else with the same first name does the same with another pic. Though given that they'd be coming from different people, some hard-working soul like Dahlya would have to slightly change one of the names and alert the player that they have done so so that they can request the right portrait from DMs when doing the change.

So far, I didn't find any similar names on the files sent to me.

However, some of the existing portraits have new versions to old portraits and I just need to make sure I didn't overwrite the new one with the old one.

Tomorrow is the last chance to see your portrait on this first batch. After that, only by the end of February.

This is my first time doing this so bear with me here... I made the images for Willow, but, I couldn't find the "portraits" folder. I made one and put them in there but when I tried to make a new character in single player, just to try it, it only showed the Willow photo and none of the others. I took the folder out and all the old ones worked again though. Any idea why? >.<

Anyway, I'll be e-mailing you the images.

(Placeholder image as in - an almost-blank portrait that's there so you can select your portrait when rebuilding to have the right reference name, before the actual portrait image you want to use is finished. Just replace the files and it'd update)

I could swear that I checked each and every portrait (after all, some people sent them upside down and stuff and I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be more like it) and yours were just fine. o.O

Since this is kinda sorta related to this, I'll ask here.

1) If I want a portrait change, I'll have to send the portrait to BD to make it a part of the pack first so the DM can access it, right?

2) How much does just a portrait change cost DC-wise? I only found this:

Have to get the pack. The cost comes from the manual LETO work and admin checking, etc, that has to be done since it's modifying a character file directly.

The DM doesn't need the portrait, however - they just need to know the name of the portrait (EG; earylduilnf_#.tga)

One of the files (Yoyoheadh.tga) gives me an error when I try to open it, identifying it as possibly corrupt. The others with that name work fine, though. Is that Yoss's portrait?

There's also an ._f_elvenH.tga that has nothing in it (also the others with that name).

Aaska's is blank.

Arien's is nice, but it's two people.

The images of Gamall_, KaiLung_ and V_ are upside down.

Yoyohead#.tga gives me errors in game as well, and yes, that's Yossarin's.

Yep. Yossi should probably fix his portrait and send it back. I will include it on the next update if he does that.

No idea when it was sent, nor which PC it was, nor what it's supposed to be like. Nothing I can do about it, except deleting from the pack.

However, after Eary mentioned the problem with Ramika's file, I checked the files again and fixed the portraits above. I don't remember fixing that V one, but I will check it again some other time.

I am pretty sure I didn't get your portrait yet. I don't remember receiving any email with the name Kalliniel on the subject - and all those I received I saved to a folder named Amia.

Even after you posted this, I went to check my inbox and got two emails, but none of them was named after Kalliniel.

What's the problem? Are they not appearing IG for people who have those portraits, or are they not appearing at character creation? Dd you dump tem in the correct directory?
