Just felt like going on a little mild rant here. Its interesting, I see people who just run around town with their weapons drawn, bumping into people, continuing on without even so much as a word, or a *shoves their way past so and so*. Just take into consideration that doing so could cause an accidental stabbing ICly, and the guards, at least in Cordor, would be all over you.

You should also consider that NWN hitboxes are larger than they realistically would be, in addition to the fact that you are not capable of finer movement and maneuvers when clicking from one place to another.
In summary, lot of those bumping are not ic, but the result of imperfect game mechanics.
A fair amount of the time, the weapon in question with be that longsword with 4th and 5th bonus mage slots on it, Mythalled to +1 in their caster stat.
I remember from my days in the Grove that most mages would very literally rather die than disarm.
OF with their arms! *Does a The Queen impression from Alice in Wonderland* OF with their arms!
To the topic.
Yeah, it annoys me too, but some people still just click some where and then charge though the masses even if they are standing at the sidewalk.
Easy solution, build a fortress, one bench and one trable at the right places and people can't run into you at the edge of the Waukeen Temple anymore.

People do that because they're noobs, and Cordor is noobground. Where the wheat is separated from the chaff. Why you would complain IC, I can understand. OOC it just sounds like "I wish people wouldn't be such noobs".. with which I agree, but it's totally hopeless bringing it up. Offenders don't read the forums.
If you want to shove someone then emote and roll for it.
a level 1 sorcerer with 8 str is never gonna push a 30 orc barbarian with 30 base str.

Here's a novel idea. If you must loiter in Cordor don't do it outside of Waukeen's Temple where everybody that comes out has to bump into you. It seriously pisses me off when people do that and then complain when someone bumps them.

Well, the outside area of the Waukeen temple is a little fun I think.. I like to observe where people are going, and where they are walking. Like if people are going hunting, they tend to cut into the grass to save time.. if they are just walking somewhere to RP, they most of the time, walk along the cobbled street. It's a funny little observation I think, and it applies more places than that.
As for running with weapons, I see the same tenancy there as well. people often run with shield and sword in hand when going to shops after hunting, or heading out. Some people walk slowly with swords. Some walk without swords at all. And when I see mages walk with swords, sometimes they actually make it a point to write that the sword is pointed downwards, so it won't cut anyone.
If I drew a map of the street of Cordor, I'd do something like, designate the grass area around the temple as a small place for people to actually loiter. the same next to the potted tree. And sort of "draw" a street in, how I see it, and where I see people going. Think of it in real life.. if you're in a hurry, you just might cut into the grass to save a few extra seconds.. if people are standing there, talking.. you'll probably walk around.

Personally, it's also a pet peeve of mine. All adventurers should be disarmed in civilian populated area's anyway. So bloody hell, make it a law already.
Then there are us evil types, whom if we accidentally stab a couple of people as we run by, eh, no biggy.

If we are to discuss logic in a fantasy game, I also vote for any sharp body parts to be watted. Like horns, tails, dragon scales, spikes of whatever race ever set foot in Cordor East. Please, have all guards give out wadding.

I've said this for a good long time. It doesn't make any sense at all that adventurers (or anyone else, for that matter) would be allowed to hang around holding flailing their swords. I can't even think of a time in history that people in cities have been allowed to wield weapons publicly. Carry them in a scabbard or holster, sure, but not draw them, unless you count a very small percent of old west towns.

Also, no. No, this is not a good argument. I'll state again that "Fantasy" does not allow one to through suspension of disbelief, nor basic logic, out the window. You cannot use that argument for every single thing that comes up. It just doesn't work like that.
That's a reminder to everyone, by the way, not just the poster. There are limits, there is logic.
Come running thru Bendir with your flaming sword in your hand....................after barking at you with their tiny Hin voices and surrounding you with the sharp pointies they had tucked in their sleeves, the Lilliputians will have you hog-tied and sent back to Cordor as cargo on the next regularly scheduled Cart. The NPC's will be their usually statuesque selves but the PC's will all be dragging you down like a straggling water buffalo attacked by a pack of savage hyenas (Hinyenas?). Of course, Bendir is a Party PvP area so........I guess we're talking apples and oranges here.

Who the hell can count out coins and pick up large numbers of little bottles when they got their hands full of weapon and shield anyway?
Anyway, other than saying that, I'm with Xordae and Carter....

Corks for tails and horns to prevent accidental stabbing out!
I so can see that and I find it hilarious.
And the underdark is a completely different matter. I may say that we down there are sort of a bit elitic and enforce laws with power.
On my defense, I enver knew there was such a policy down there, well the helmet one is clear, but the nos word one. never heard of that, yet I still did it because it was just the right thing I think.

Funny you should say that....that gets done quite a bit in the Dale when people refuse lol
...Ahem... The way I look at it is really really simple. If someone runs by and bumps my character and doesn't emote it, I ignore it like it never happened. It's that simple. Truly. Try it. Sure it's annoying that people do it but hey, welcome of the world of online gaming. Bumping is instant and ignorable. It's not like when people mindlessly, habitually, or purposefully walk around somewhere like the Dale with a weapon drawn. That lasts the whole time they're there so something gets done either way.
My character gives them three very simple and logical options: 1) Put it away and go on about your business, no harm no foul. 2) Leave. Alright, so you want to keep in out? Fine, get out. Not all that big of a deal if they just walk. 3) I'll make you leave. Drag you out with RP or if you want to be a tough guy and fight, I'll drag your corpse out. I think it's fair enough. More importantly, that simply the way she does things when people don't listen to the laws of the Dale or the "laws of nature." ::shrug::
I like how people decide to post their slightly hostile comments, such as "stop whining" or "get over it" when all I was doing, is putting a -friendly- reminder up here, to take into account that everything your character does, including running around like a crazed maniac with a sword, is an IC action, and IC actions have consequences. Seriously, this is more of a "hey lets try to remember to stay IC and make Amia better" than a complaint. Leave your unproductive comments at the door.

Deja vu.

The point for me is that these people who don't have enough sense to put their weapon away don't even see it as an IC thing. They most often have an understanding of roleplay that leaves something to be desired.
What you propose is that an IC law be made to stop OOC newbies. Will they abide by it just because now it's a Cordor law? No chance in hell. Just like people not unsummoning familiars because they just were out hunting and plan to go do it again.
Putting IC laws up to make newbies and action gamers "polish up their act" will not work. What it will do is create a headache for everyone involved.

IMO if you are carrying your weapons and running about you are ICly carrying your weapons and running about.
Although newbs can be forgiven for not knowing.

Depending on the character I have on, I remind them IC not to do it even if they are running and will probably miss the words. If they don't want to stay IC it's their loss, not mine. What I can do is try setting/being an example. *shrugs*
I also send a friendly Tell reminding them that running around with weapons drawn is supposedly dangerous especially if they are in a hurry, and that next time they should sheathe them just to avoid more OOC notes about it or an IC knockdown/PvP.
Do this. Try sending them a Tell reminding them of this. It's unlikely that the players who do that check the forums, thus, they will probably miss a reminder here.

Some weapons such as staves, spears and some kind of large axes you just can't put away though. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to clip a flail on my belt, there's a chance the knockers might smack you in the balls! Metal cups would be too uncomfortable to wear all the time.
Hmm Illithira only cares when they wave their weapons around menacingly. They wouldn't bump into her as she'd just likely jump out the way as a reflex action.
Pork, most people would bounce off him and weapons would likely too...Eventually, he'd notice them as he looks down and then, he'd probably carve them up with his axe and eat them. *nods sagely* This is probably why Pork is hardly ever seen in Cordor, too many noobs would become Pork's dinner. The guards most likely don't let him into Cordor much.
In both instances, I have RP reasons why not to get upset with noobs running into my toons.
If they try it with Pork out of Cordor, they become lunch. If they try it with Illithira, they IC'ly wouldn't be able to, she's too agile.

many servers have npc guards automatically tell you to put weapons away when seen out. Some that even attack after a certain amount of time. I'm not sure if they actually do, but the guards have threatened me... If the law is implemented, the npc thing would help greatly. wont stop them from running into you, but they won't be absentmindedly murdering

Saw that on other servers too. Difference: Guards that kill your puny lvl 3 PC with 2 shots. Then you have a nice stay in the Fugue with no inventory and 2/3 XP less.

Staves can be used as walking sticks.
Spears can be strapped to the back.
Large axes can be strapped ~firmly~ to a belt by the axis, which would keep the cutting side down.
Heavy flails when sheathed would probably have a leather strap holding the chain so it won't be bouncing around.
And so on.
Mind, I am no weapon expert, but these are the ways that I can think of to "sheathe" big weapons.

I agree...that kind of attitude helps nobody. It certainly doesn't help people with the willingness to learn better habits to do so. There too much of a 'head in the sand' attitude about stuff here.

True enough, but if we apply logic, we pwetty please apply the same logic everywhere, not just where it suits. Some PCs have so many spikes on their armor they could be member of the Gutbuster Brigade, should they wear their underwear in Bendir?
Edit:
Should a half-dragon be skinned because a child PC in Cordor may bump into them and poke their eye out? As I said, logic is dandy and all, but applying the same reasoning everywhere is the funny thing in a fantasy setting like Amia.

the way you are wording it makes sound like people who run around with a weapon are RPing bad or wrong but I dont see how it would be OOC for a fighter trained melee combat would want to lower his guard on amia the most random island ever.
from a IC point of view
Casters can walk around with thier staff and say its a walking stick, or the fact they can just yell out some mojo, wave thier hands and poof they would be ready for combat.
Guards have weapons out so it must not be safe so why drop your guard.
also all the monster races and drow that would be killed on sight by most other races that are saved by the PVP rule, you cant blame people for being uneasy and have thier guard up.

So whats the answer? Because not every instance can be stopped, then none of them should be?
.......and to your point above that, there was actually a Dwarf who did so....stripped down to his underwear because his armour WAS his weapon. I forget the name, but he was a Dwarven sub-class from P'n'P that grabbed enemies in a 'bearhug' to be impaled and torn to shreds by the spikes and razor-sharp edges on their armour.

Seriously, you're wasting your time, just ignore them and move out of the line of fire in Cordor. Standing where the sign and tree and bin is outside the temple is going to get you run over.
Go sit on the benches.
However, on a more serioius note, why not re-develop the square to be more user friendly? e.g., in a circle with benches facing inwards rather than outwards in the middle bit. A simple change like that will allow people to sit in a circle and rp outside.

I have no answer except "deal with it IC if possible or ignore it". I am just slightly amused about the thread since I recall players that could not or did not want to distinguish between a noob who sprinted with a flaming longsword or a calm walking hin presenting his warhammer on his shoulder.
