Joke, joke, joke! @_@;

Can anyone give me some tips on getting DCs? I hear of people with over a hundred and I can't even get 10 measily dream coins >.<; I've heard I should make a good character, like a paladin or a priestess of Lliira or someone happy. Any truth in that '-'?

From my experience is it all about getting inot RP opportunities.
With my Tiefling Monk, who forgot his past, I just saw one or two DC's.
With my Human druid did I see roughly 7 - 10 or so. Well, she got captured by Hobgobs and then kept in their base, she then got 'saved' by one of them and brought into the banite base to become a member of them. It didn't work that out though, her right buttons were never pushed. Anycase, my point is, play something interesting and interest and interact with other people and you will get your DC'S. Sometimes not, that happens too, but then again can the DM'S not watch everyone.

Running low on DCs doesn't mean that you're a lousy role-player. It probably means that you RP in the time most inconvenient for the DMs or then just some DMs don't prefer your RP. Nor does having tons of DCs imply to that you're a better role-player than someone that doesn't have as many of them.
You mustn't RP because you want them, you must RP for your own joy. Of course it's always nice to get them. In my opinion it's just a treat to encourage RP and events, albeit you never should RP just for DCs.

Best advice RP 99% of the time, even when on your own.
USE emotes. Get past -nods-, -waves-, and try full sentence emotes...umm but when appropriate of course.
Do a complete background on your PC and know:
The name of your parents, what your character's favourite drink is or breakfast.
-use repetition, a trademark signal to indicate to everyone, X has walked into the room-
That should be a start.

Never picked any favourite drinks or breakfast. Never chosen any names to my character's parents. Always had a short and pithy background, not ten pages long essayette. In my opinion, there are no direct cues for RP. Copy, be original, everything works. My personal cue is that give your character flaws. Makes the RP more colourful.

Stay IC. React to the environment. Don't godgame. Create RP that makes everyone OOCly happy to play with you, even if you play evil (yes, it can be done and is done all the time).
Given you only registered to the forums two days ago, I assume you also are quite new to Amia, and you shouldn't expect to have gained hundreds of DCs in a few weeks. Not even in a few months. Nobody gets that much in such short times, it's unreasonable to put such goals on oneself. I find it quite unreasonable to put any goals of gaining so-and-so many DCs in a period of time, for that matter.
Just RP and create a good RP atmosphere around you. DC will come in time.

We all have our opinions of excellent roleplay. If the DM doesn't think that the player's roleplaying is excellent at the moment, why wouldn't he/she not give a DC? Sounds perfectly sensible to me.

I agree with Opustus and would add the following:
Enjoy the characters you play, yes the DC's are nice but dont live for them, them for the character you have created and the epople you interact with, in time you wont find that it matters all that much about DC's.
Having DC's or not does not make you a better / worse player, dont worry about it
There endeth the lesson *sagenod*

A cold, painful fact of the matter is that DM's aren't machines and they can't be on Amia monitoring 24/7.
But if you can enjoy the RP and RP without a care if a DM is on or not, you help yourself build up ideas, things to work with, discussions to have.
Believe it or not, a simple conversation with light emotes can even earn DC's. Talking about something important to your character, while keeping up comments like: *shifts in their seat*, *eyes narrowed as they said*, *and hastily adding with a haunting voice*, *cringed at the idea*, are all examples. You don't need to be raising your first skeleton, discovering the ultimate love potion, or slaying a dragon with a broken dagger in a 10-page thriller to earn DC's. A lot of the time, I feel, that the DM's reward when they see effort on any level of RP. You're not supposed to have to put on a show.

Looking at my DC spread on the wand, its pretty clear to me that its an even spread. DC even spread across DMs shows a lack of favouritism going on.
I highly doubt they're into favouritism. In fact, more than anything, you're likely to NOT get DCs if you're close to them OOC as DMs are paranoid of being seen in that kind of light.

Because DC's are rewards for the quality RP. Not the type of RP.

I'm not on the team anymore, but I can tell you that there isn't favoritism. Hell, at the first hint of favoritism questions are asked. As far as I recall, we haven't had any cases where a small trend turned out to be a case of favoritism.

One reason I like playing here is that I trust that the DMs avoid favorism. Which does not mean I did not have my problems with them here or there, and I think that they enjoy interacting with some players more than with others, but on the grand scale they seem to be fair and able to treat all players equal. I think that is one of the big reasons this server is more successfull than others.
[Edit] If they are into favorism, this post hopefully aids me in getting more DCs.

It's rather the other way around, actually. We (I, at least) are so afraid to subconciously favor our friends that we compensate by not giving them DCs in many situations when they'd get one if we didn't know them.

I got my first DC by having an argument with my familiar inside the nomad. They were both talking in drow, eventually getting my PC floored by a human barbarian.
it was fun, and i really didnt expect one. I also got a DC for asking a random passerby how to get a signet ring.
I've gotten a DC for getting killed in a battle, after I ran around trying to cast light on an SD, and staying dead after ooc raises.
They really aren't that hard to get. Just be yourself, dont showboat. You tend to find that you get them when you least expect. One time, i checked my wand by accident and found I had DCs I never even knew I earned!

I've played on amia for... let's see.... three years and I have 7 DC's. The reason; I just don't play that regularly since I don't have the time so I just enjoy the rp I have and to be honest I don't really know what I should use my DC's for.
But one advice is just not to think about it and try play something stupid. That helps alot.

The secret is, you get so far into the RP that you forget the OOC side of things, forget the DC's, and immerse yourself in another reality. And when you are so far into it that you start checking around the corners for Drow when you go to buy some milk... ...then you will start seeing results!

I've played here about 3-1/2 years now, and I've never liked the DC system. Over 3 years, I acquired about 10 DCs. In the past few months it more than doubled to 21. No changes in my RP, just dumb luck.
I have no value for the system -except- that they're needed for things like summon skin changes, bio changes, etc etc.
You'll get DC's if the fates allow. You can chase them by trying to get in on events you hear about, but otherwise, it's just dumb luck.
Good dumb luck.

Actually, I've had DM's warn me that they will not reward a DC if the suspect that I am/was involved in a DM event -only- because I knew it was a DM event.
Yes, DM events are good opportunities. But they don't even guarentee it.
And I'm somebody who likes the idea of DC's. Yet everything I might want in rewards is all just eye-candy. Something that would be nice, but has no or little RP value since I can do such RP anyways be using emotes to clarify.

Don't believe them, not all DMs think that way! I want my players to acknowledge being in a DM event, I want them to join only if they want to be involved in the event and I want them to make an effort to impress me with great cooperation ICly and OOCly, and I want them to show great enthusiasm about the event.
I mean... why am I even running the event if my players don't show interest and help me carry the plot onwards? Passive and/or nonchalant players are no fun!
But I guess that's not exactly what the DMs meant, anyway. I think they meant they don't fancy players joining events just to get quest goodies. But this is such an important thing, players must not get the wrong impression about how to behave in events!

Oh good gracious! I am misunderstood in what I'm mentioning!
YES! DO DM' EVENTS! LOTS OF FUN!
Caution: DM's do not guarentee DC's for participation.
YES! DM EVENTS ARE LIKE 99.9% CHANCE TO BE REWARDED. [Almost like killing 99.9% of germs with one of them confangled disinfecting stuffs, it's never entirely perfect but darn good enough!]

I always give DCs to players participating in my mini events if I see them roleplaying, and making some sort of effort. There's only one catch. I wont give them out if they ask me for it.
Those who do not demand them shall be rewardeth!

My Dad use to tell me something about dating, it's kinda like Amia and DC's.
If your in a relationship, you'll likely get hit on.
If your not in a relationship and looking for a woman, you'll never find her until you stop looking and just live life.
That's how it rolls on Amia for DC's. Stop looking for them and just enjoy the "life".... they'll come when it's time, and no sooner.

Personally I think asking for DCs is like asking someone for a gift ... hardly polite.
Of course, that is my opinion and I know others feel differently.

My advice for getting DCs is, don't try to get DCs. Play the game without an expectation to get DCs and they will come.

It's not important how many days it takes you to write a backstory or that you wall-of-text everyone who looks remotely like a good RPer. Frankly.. I find wall-of-texting all the time to be bad form. Sometimes less is more. Garnish every sentence and you have an agonizing read. When you happen to only want to emote sipping tea, you don't have to waste three lines describing how his pinky twitches.
Avoid clichés. People have been smirking behind their helmet, doing things very slightly and "..."ed to exhaustion.
Look at it this way.. everyone who's in a position to reward you for RP has already seen tons of it. He's seen hordes of cookiecutters and he's most likely a sadistic, jaded arse (). What scores you big points in this situation is when you have a character who is refreshing in a way, who's got faults, who doesn't always sit first row and who entertains. I saw DCs rolling in most easily playing a cowardly and pacifist priest of Ilmater.

Have to disagree. Little emotes can say more than "spoken" words, just like physical expressions often say more than the words we speak. They paint a more defined picture of the character in this limited environment.
I like to ask myself when RPing, "Is the character (PC or NPC) doing something while she speaks, that could change the reactions of those interacting with her?"
Not all emoting is necessary, and it's true people sometimes overdo it. But even overdoing is better than being a blank, impersonal character with nothing to read between the lines (of "spoken" comments).
Though, *smirking behind the helmet* is one of those unnecessary emotes... you want to tell others what they see, and they can't see you smirking behind your helmet, can they? They don't even have a clue there's something going on under your helmet.

Unless it's one of them fancy horsehair helmets, then some emotes would be visible

I think Nekh's point is, your character, like any person, is likely to gesture while speaking, or have a subtle change in posture when they're speaking wiht someone, depending on whether or not they like them. Or perhaps they fidget when speaking, or brush a lock of hair from his or her own face. That kind of thing. Emoting such paints a better picture for those around you, and, in turn, gives them a little something to work with. Share the love.

I disagree. There are many ways to do it; you don't have to conform to your style of only describing information available to ther other characters. You can also use emotes to communicate between the players to tell a tale in the style that would be common in a novel (all knowing perspective?).
Not all information needs to be safeguarded from metagaming etc. And the people I RP with, at least, are smart enough to decypher what to react to and what not to.
That said, "smirking under the helmet" is not very fresh, indeed.
EDIT: Didn't mean for this to come out aggressive or hostile, in any way. Just to be sure.

I take nekh's view, I don't like the all knowing approach because I feel that it will influence how I ICly react.
For instance it is the difference between:
*Laughs, thinking that he will later murder him in his sleep* and just straight *laughs* or *laughs coldly*, *cackles* etc. Once you give someone that sort of information, they will change how they act if only subconciously.

Sure. In the case of a future attempt to kill someone, I'd not do it either - obviously. But there are many cases where it just doesn't matter, where the overal gain of entertainment is greater when providing amusing and/or interesting information not readily available to the characters involved in the scene compared to just providing what they could sense.
No need to jump to extremes. And no need to be 100% either or, IMO.

I think Frey summed it up for me...
DC's come when least expected, they may be from profound rp, or even from the smallest, yet well executed, rp. It's just a matter of circumstance and chance.
I know some people who have like 86 DC's in their account, i have none, and don't reeeally care unless i want skin changes to my summons or to create something that is necessary for my character (which i DO want to do); but i'm just never on when DMs are... *Le shrug* So it has some chance in timing as well.
All in all, just enjoy the game.

Yeah, I think there's a couple of exceptions to this. There's a lot of things that cannot be said without storytelling, but what people would be able to pick up from someone's behaviour.
Let's say, you emote:
*Checks his watch*
or
*Checks his watch, as if waiting for something or someone*
The first one could be understood in several ways in plain text, but if you actually saw someone checking their watch in flesh, you could pick up hints on their intentions for checking the watch. Do they just wanna know what time it is or is there another intention?
But then there's the things people wouldn't guess to think about by your body postures and other behaviour. Like the smirking under the helmet, unless it's affecting your voice in a noticeable way.
