I sit here, with my few hundred thousand gold, perhaps on all my above lvl 5 charachter I come up in about an million or two gold.

What is scary is to see people "takes up the big wallet" and put out a few million gold like its pocket coins.

So...lets now tell us how the hell you people make so mcuh money!? Is it farming bosses and such for items and gold? Is it RP trading, RP event things? What is it?

Ailahra has about four million, and she certainly doesn't run bosses. I'd say I got my gold from constant patrols and getting more gold from loot than I shell out for arrows and potions.

1. Don't play a character that depends on things you have to spent money on.
2. Go for the money, not for the XP. Lower difficulty critters still drop pricey stuff.
3. Go for a character that can carry a lot.

You just got to solo hunt a lot, or party hunt even more.

For soloing, pick a place where the critters aren't difficult or time-taking to kill, and your character can handle them very easily. Try to use one-time buffs as little as possible (such as buffing potions), and prefer items that cast the buffing spells (or if you can, cast the spells yourself).

For partying, same thing, but also pick along someone with high Appraise and who can sell the loot to Ha'mar, and then share the gold within the party.

Key: Get the best equipment you can get as soon as you can get it, then you don't need to worry about spending gold any more outside of healing kits or potions.

The trick is remaining cost efficient.

If you're spending 5,000 GP per rest on potions, and gaining 6,000 GP from items, then you're only making a 1,000 GP profit. Simple enough.

As such, mages and clerics have it made, as their expendatures are minimal thanks to being able to get everything through their spells instead of items.

However, most gold comes from auctioning of epic loot. The 1/20 chance you have of getting a super item from the final, epic bosses.

My characters are always skint.. but they each have a backstory to why.

My ranger has no need for it, my apprentice has no idea to the value of money, blah blah..

Not bothered about money. But if Aloe needs money [And she always does >_<] I send her out to the trolls or something low. They actually drop really good gold.

I almost aggree with disco...

1- you character must be able to kill without buying short term items (potions, flames, scrolls)
2- you have to hunt alone a little... yes, its in an area thats sorta easy for you, but every loot drop becomes yours and the gold split is all yours...
3- use your newfound wealth to deck out your gear and buy some of those items that are short term to hunt better wareas for said gold....

once your up a few levels your sitting pretty with good exp AND good gold

Three ways to get rich;

1 ) Buy merchandise in places hard to get by for most, or things so out of place newer people have no idea where it is; Sell with profit

2 ) Pick up -everything- (Yes, even those 2 gp mythals), and sell off (Again, preferably to players); Someone drops a stack of +1 arrows infront of Tristana? Take them! Chances are they will be flagged stolen, but you can still sell it to others cheaply

3 ) Never waste gold on potions - Have casters buff you, or, failing that, find a seldom-visited, easy to grind low-level area if all else fails
(You'd be surprised how easily you can earn a few 100k by running the Bloodmoon Orcs, or the Brigand Camp ;)

1. Pickpocketing those Paladin and Weapon Master builds in Fullplate with no spot ranks is an easy way to make great cash, especially if they go AFK

2. Selling RP items to long term players with epic characters. In other words they give you gold for nothing because thses guys have nothing else to spend it on.

3. Good old solo farming areas that drop +2 items from the loot bin. Brigards is my usual place because the hunting area goes in a continues loop from start to finish.

4. Selling boss items, that NPC merchants won't buy, to newbie characters/players on a trickle payment. They pay you so much gold every so often to buy the item and ofcourse you add 10% interest as this goes on with time.

5. DC coins aren't bad for a quick boost of cash the same with some in game quests but they aren't great compared to some early +1 level loot.

Rest has been said.

Lootfarming and partying are more or less mutually exclusive, Vegan. The idea is to solo so you can be greedy without sharing.

If your build cannot solo bosses, hit the +4 areas. If you can't solo +4 areas, you can still make good money off the +3 ones. (Ideally the beastman caves, since everyone and their brother is farming Ankh'remun for xp.)

My main was almost always low on funds in the past but instead collected rings & gems. However with the character size limit of 500kb(still trying to get there) now in place he no longer spends money & no longer saves rings & gems.

The do nots of being rich. .

Don't be a compulsive spender, (like me :\)

Don't go out and buy healing potions, (3000 g for 300-400 hp O.o nuh-uh.)

Don't pay anyone rply tp kill anyone, (that's pricey!)

Don't offer huge sums of gold to your guild's coffers, (like I do.)

Don't overlook appraise, suck up as much appraise gear as you can!

Don't make posts on the forums about being rich, you should be hunting for gold right now!. ..go! shoo!. . .

I wouldn't go completely nuts picking up loot. Unless you have a weight-reducing bag, that Double Axe of the Tall Kin will set you back a lot of carrying capacity without selling for a whole lot. Of course, beggars can't be choosers, but I would rather find some magical amulet that barely weighs anything.

When I think about it, Infinite Dungeons did have a loot system that could be completely customised. It meant you could expect to see less items that your character wouldn't need or be able to use, which was great considering that practically everything in ID spat loot at you ;)

Aye, but that would remove the fun of your uberloot from the zillionth bosskil to be something your character finds utterly useless.

This probably isn't the topic to discuss this - but mythral crystals are HEAVY. I admit to leaving behind those due to my severe weight restriction (ie I can only carry 60 pounds!).

Back to the thread topic.
One tip is to play a buffer/healer character. There is less need to spend gold on buff/healing potions.
Else there is always making friends with rich people. :D

Oh, a good idea if you ever want to make a successful merchant (this is how Airais got her massive gold fun).

Heavily watch the lowbie-playerbase. With a keen eye, you'll see what characters need what and when they'll likely need it, by listening to who they answer to, what supplies to get, and where they hunt.

With that, sell basic loot to them when they're most vulnerable - levelling up and attempting to get better. They'll pay well over the standard price to get what they know will save their arse and let them fight bigger baddies.

Buy low, sell high.

And do what Uce said: collect and sell everything. Every 5 gold adds to your fortune. Swig a bull's potion and carry all you can. Don't hesitate to port out and sell to the closest merchant, so you can collect even more. Be a miser, because misers do get rich.

Last time I checked Ray had around 10 mill, I dont farm bosses but I do have some very nice epic item's. Where does all my GP come from, well role play.

At level 10 Ray had already made 300k in gold coin's from role play. I cannot give a guide to get rich because well I did it the evil way. Assasin's can make alot of profit IC'ly what's more DM event's information on secret group's and plain old gambling can earn you alot of GP and DC's for that matter.

You could have an RP reason to farm?

My character, Larra, is required by her god to
1) Prove her strength constantly
2) Seek out evil everywhere
3) Donate to her church (Which actually means drop some in the trash every so often).

She does get a lot of money this way, though at the moment she has a grand total of 423 gold.

I can see that fortunes are all over the map, but I was wondering if there was any general 'rule of thumb' on net worth vs. level.

I'm finding with my chars, that it seems like GP=3 x XP. I have about 3 times as much gold as I do XP. If I sold all my inventory/equipment, that'd add about 2 times XP. So combined it'd be about 5 times my XP.

For example, at 100K XP, my char would have about 3 times that in gold, around 300K gold, and another 200K in equipment, for a total of 500K.

And that's from just standard hunting, etc. Nothing special like begging, or finding perfect mythals etc. Just the standard route to wealth.

What's everyone else's findings?

You'll find that builds and classes that get all the best gear earily won't end up spending any more, ie wizzards, marcus, currently sitting at 17 mill or something, but he can sit behing summons and just absorb gold as the monsters die, and then there is loot... and his bags of holding so he can carry more.... and yea >.> all sorts of tricks you can have, but it varies, everybody has their way of making money, mainly its either farming, RP assassinations or buy low, sell high *shrugs*

Most Ray ever accepted for an assasination was 3million, the least he ever accepted was 300k. It really depends on how much the employer is willing to fork out, concidering the person isnt going to stay dead and isnt going to fear the person who killed them or hired someone to kill them i wouldnt expect that much.

I have a reliable sorce that brings me tons of items and sell sme the bulk of the for around 50,000 no matter what they are. I then turn around and sell each of the items from anywhere between 20,000-80,000

Dashj has over 200 weapons sitting on him so he prob. have many millions to be made. *Watches his Character file rise in KB >.<*

The first "Million" I saw was a long time ago: from a DM plot that involved a long quest for treasure. We ended up selling some rare novelty items and a couple of actually decent items, which allowed for us to have a net gain of about 3 million: Split 3 ways.

It does depend on your character really..

A strong character can carry more loot sure, and most wealth does come from pricey loot, but the truely suggessful chars get their coinage from every source.

1-Loot from hunting
2-Auctioning
3-The above items with high ranks in the appraise skill
4-RP/Dream coins.

Most of my characters have never had alot of gold to throw around, so they never had the best gear.

But right now, Damien is living the high life, he gets alot more gold from the things he finds in the field as he knows the best merchants, and who gives him the best deals, and when you add that too his appraise skill thats major CA-CHING.

He hasnt really auctioned off tangable items, but he deals heavily in information and murder....I can honestly since I re-made him as a rogue/assassin who has several people working for him...he has earned and spent over two million gold just from selling information and sliceing the occasional neck or two/ The two million is not includeing the total wealth of his gear which is easily in the one million range.

Its nice to be sitting on a wad of cash and have nothing to do with it...it feels good as a player to see a charcter so successful, as well as haveing the ooc right to brag saying "Fifty thousand golds?" CHUMP CHANGE.

Its kind of annoying haveing alot of gold really, hes nearing level twenty and he has pretty much some of the best stuff available to his class's, and when he hits level 20 he can buy even better gear but the cost of such things wont even dent his reserve of coins.

You have to find your own way...your character cant just hope gold falls into his lap...especially on amia....most cites on amia, especially cordor are MERCHANT cities....and the only real way to earn coin is to sell something, anything really that people need.

It gets annoying haveing alot of gold..
