Maybe the next few world threatening mega bosses should attack Kohlingen instead of Cordor. <.<
That should soften them up.

Wardens as in road wardens? I see that actio nas a valid reason for chaotic good to see them as enemies, being Lawful Evil. They are negative on two planes.

Kohlingen has had to face it's share of potential threats.
As a matter of fact it's only by the grace of a very well played deal that Kohlingen's Navy wasn't destroyed during the Arcanum War, and was even still rather badly affected with that in place.
Also: Why doesn't Tarkuul attack? Any number of reasons but one key one is that the likelihood of destructon or significant devestation to itself is significant.

Wiltun is hellaciously LE tho and has been since creation. Quote: As a matter of fact it's only by the grace of a very well played deal that Kohlingen's Navy wasn't destroyed during the Arcanum War, and was even still rather badly affected with that in place. Kohlingen is famously "the land faction" and basically suffered nothing under the arcanum war despite having the worse navy on all accounts. Even Cordor wasn't hurt near as bad as it should have been. No city actually lost or was hurt by the Arcanum War. Cordor shoulda straight been wiped off the map. Amn's navy plus the other forces should have straight annihilated the forces arrayed against them. Quote: Also: Why doesn't Tarkuul attack? Any number of reasons but one key one is that the likelihood of destructon or significant devestation to itself is significant. no, Tarkuul had 3 KEY moments over the years it could have attacked and likely won, since 2012. Differing DM philosophy between the reigning DM of Tarkuul then and previously made that not happen.

Remember the show-of-force when Wiltun dumped ants on Bendir? Within hours they had dragons/knights/paladin NPC's all over.
You can't fight it, and Tarkuul seems to be unwilling to, so that's pretty much the end of it. Try and fly under the radar. The thing about the navy is not true...Tormak and Grymia summarized why. It was also not the case until recently and PCs invested years to get the city to that point. Furthermore, the event you are mentioning is a joint effort of two cities (Winya and Kohl) which altogether moved 50 NPCs to the Dale. ALthough that interim map updated created the feeling that there are way more than that. As for Wiltun...not just Wiltun. The majority of Ruathym has an LE tendency...not to mention that they raid just as much as Luskan does.

Also it's why it would be nice if each city forum had like, a quick info post about things like population level, imports, exports, military presence, etc. People told me Kohl had the strongest navy and I have no way to know if it's true or not.

We had that in development when I was a DM, but I was the only one to submit city stats when it was supposed to be joint collective work from all DMs.

I mean, they don't just keep these people in Bags of Holding. People are physically there, it's just that we can't have 200 npc's standing around. A lot of approximate numbers should be public knowledge.

rp you start observing a place, then pm a dm, this way you can learn a lot about a place
Although yes, some are easy to find out normally, but then again i don't know how many police officers there work and live in my city/village.. do you?
and for general population without google, i would go for "yeah there live a decent amount here"
I mean both you could find out by spending much time observing counting, asking etc ic

literally nobody can tell me how many people live in the dale or wharftown. We do have an IC community information post stickied on the Bendir Dale forum. It's got most of the information there including population, exports, imports etc. Although I can't really remember how those figures for the population came to be. I just copied it from a former Mayor's player post which was edited by a former DM who played another former Mayor, so I'm assuming those stats are fairly accurate and take into account those who died from the war and other events since.

In the case of Bendir or Wharftown...a PC can make an estimate but in the case of larger cities? Not really.

"It's magic!" Doesn't apply here. It's simply an attempt to hide information away so no actions can be taken to disrupt anything unless a DM says so. Book of Nehemiah, Chapter 7 wrote: Watchmen for the Gates
1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, 2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many. 3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.
Census of the Province
4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded. 5 And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,
6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city; 7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;
8 The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two. 9 The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two. 10 The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two. 11 The children of Pahath-moab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen. 12 The children of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four. 13 The children of Zattu, eight hundred forty and five. 14 The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore. 15 The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight. 16 The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and eight. 17 The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty and two. 18 The children of Adonikam, six hundred threescore and seven. 19 The children of Bigvai, two thousand threescore and seven. 20 The children of Adin, six hundred fifty and five. 21 The children of Ater of Hezekiah, ninety and eight. 22 The children of Hashum, three hundred twenty and eight. 23 The children of Bezai, three hundred twenty and four. 24 The children of Hariph, an hundred and twelve. 25 The children of Gibeon, ninety and five. 26 The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, an hundred fourscore and eight. 27 The men of Anathoth, an hundred twenty and eight. 28 The men of Beth-azmaveth, forty and two. 29 The men of Kirjath-jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred forty and three. 30 The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty and one. 31 The men of Michmas, an hundred and twenty and two. 32 The men of Bethel and Ai, an hundred twenty and three. 33 The men of the other Nebo, fifty and two. 34 The children of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four. 35 The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty. 36 The children of Jericho, three hundred forty and five. 37 The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty and one. 38 The children of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.
39 The priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three. 40 The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two. 41 The children of Pashur, a thousand two hundred forty and seven. 42 The children of Harim, a thousand and seventeen.
43 The Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and of the children of Hodevah, seventy and four.
44 The singers: the children of Asaph, an hundred forty and eight.
45 The porters: the children of Shallum, the children of Ater, the children of Talmon, the children of Akkub, the children of Hatita, the children of Shobai, an hundred thirty and eight.
46 The Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hashupha, the children of Tabbaoth, 47 The children of Keros, the children of Sia, the children of Padon, 48 The children of Lebana, the children of Hagaba, the children of Shalmai, 49 The children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar, 50 The children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda, 51 The children of Gazzam, the children of Uzza, the children of Phaseah, 52 The children of Besai, the children of Meunim, the children of Nephishesim, 53 The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur, 54 The children of Bazlith, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha, 55 The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Tamah, 56 The children of Neziah, the children of Hatipha.
57 The children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida, 58 The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel, 59 The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Amon. 60 All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.
61 And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not shew their father's house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel. 62 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two. 63 And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name. 64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood. 65 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
66 The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, 67 Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women. 68 Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:
69 Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses. 70 And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests' garments. 71 And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.
72 And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests' garments. 73 So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.

Never said it was magic, I said it because cities and towns are not what they appear in game due to the games limitations. That group of 6 guards in a town might represent a much larger force, or it might just be 6 guards. That's why you have to ask a DM, not because they want to force players to go through them.

Richard makes a vailid point about that, as i said before, ask a dm, put work in it IC
but for population numbers.. well i guess they don't put out signs here, and hard numbers are difficult as not every one registers. and the same thing applies, seek info ic, start counting houses (and ask a dm) even in small villages most dont even know how many excact houses there are, and requesting this information, depence on the country and location if they want to give you that.
As of armies/guards etc, i know from experience in cordor there is strength in hiding your numbers and look small, and strength in boosting about larger numbers then you have, depending on the situation.
Also indeed this is forgotten realms, it works different here, namely how the dm tells you to. but also, from what i can tell.. it is kinda a big deal for most locations to not have there exact numbers known.
I mean in the real world, now a days if you suddenly start to question local officials, go online and request al kind of data on troop numbers, locations, patterns etc, you lickly end up in a small room being questioned as to why you want to know this. And in this world (amia) there is a much larger treat every day then in that world with the little room.

Considering those are modern facts posted about the US army. It was hard to keep tabs on citizen back then. Sweden early on had a very picky system about it but many probably had no idea about their citizen and the amount. IN the cities perhaps but out on the country side? Not likely. Some towns on Amia probably do not even keep tabs that well. Just knowing there is the Bark family and the Riddlers estate and their servants out on the western outskirts of random village.

literally nobody can tell me how many people live in the dale or wharftown. We do have an IC community information post stickied on the Bendir Dale forum. It's got most of the information there including population, exports, imports etc. Although I can't really remember how those figures for the population came to be. I just copied it from a former Mayor's player post which was edited by a former DM who played another former Mayor, so I'm assuming those stats are fairly accurate and take into account those who died from the war and other events since. a fantastic post and every city forum should have one.

I agree with Commie, on the sentiment that A) The good places seem invulnerable. B) Records should exist. The excuse that 'you have to go through DMs' will apply anyway. How are you meant to attack imaginary trade routes without the express permission of the DMs in the very first place? Simply having the knowledge out there is not going to change the fact that any individual wanting to affect anything like that would have to go through the DMs anyway.
As for the good places seeming invulnerable, they do. Think for example all the nonsense the Drow cities have been through, whereas you can still walk through Cordor and Kohlingen after the Arcanum war and not really see any actual desolation. Any new player coming in would have to seriously dig through the forums to get at any sort of information regarding how 'hurt' Cordor and Kohlingen are, because from an outside perspective they seem pretty fine - Kohlingen more than any other, when you take into consideration how many grid squares it has. It is no longer the Holy City, it is the Holy County, given its size. In the UD on the other hand, Edonil doesn't exist anymore, Nec'perya is Dragonkin-land, L'Obsul is a multicultural hub, and there are some ruins of an even older city on A. I'm using Drow because they're a visible and obvious example of a 'faction' going through multiple and obvious changes to them as the situation worsens for them.
To go back to my first point, I don't think that there should be exact numbers for the bigger cities, if only because of the constant flow of people going in and out as traders, etc. I do think there should be a general consensus, and a general 'this is common knowledge' sort of posting (I see Kohlingen & Bendir Dale has one, I find Bendir Dale's to be superior, but still, A++).

Does exist for information you could find out about Kohlingen at least. admittedly it doesnt go into in depth specifics of numbers, but works as guideline I wouldn't use that one because the info is far from being correct there. It needs a really have rework. As for Commie and Arkun. Sometimes you get the wrong information. That happens. Intentionally or unintentionally. PEople do not have to give you the right information or people do not necessarily know the right information and people do not necessarily have to know the right information or obtain the information. You obtain the information what you obtain IC. The post-Arcanum thing was also an issue, you can definitely find posts about that esspecially in light of the events during and before summer. As for how cities got hurt, the DMs can also give you information, considering that not everything can be represented in the module. As for evil. There are equally seemingly invulnerable evil locations which can heavily overshadow Kohl in terms of invulnerability. There are people working on those places. L'Obsul may not be just drow but the political dominance there heavily depends on the recent PC involvement of the UD events which was mostly drow at this point.

You obtain the information what you obtain IC. I don't think it's unfair to ask for general info posts as the cities arn't representative of their actual sizes. had ic discussions turn ooc over this, people staunchly insisting bendir has more farms then cordor and kohl and going ooc over it. during the ant event many insisted bendir fed the entire island because it had the most farms and thats why the defensive turnout was so high. people said it then and continue to say it now. it's not true and if the cities were actually representative of their real sizes this would be easy to see. How do I know what has more farms ic or ooc if that info isn't out there? How can anyone? does winya have any farmland at all? where are the 'trade ships' going? where are they coming from? what does cordor export? what does kohl import? this is the kind of stuff you could find out in about 10 minutes if these places were real, but they arn't, and PC's just don't give accurate information. if the stuff isn't in a module but is fact then why argue against that info being public so people can just be right and know what the heck their cities actually are?

This is actually true, according to what DMs have said in the past. Bendir supplies a majority of the food for the isle, it's the 'bread basket' of Amia which is why it's always so important. When the Bendir crops were being withered a while back it was causing starvation (or the threat of it) because of the loss of food on Amia. I agree that some info should be easily attainable, though a number shouldn't. Not every settlement has to disclose their population info (among other things). Something generalized that can be considered IC info would be really nice to have on the forums. But specifics, and more details, should only be acquired IC (either IG or via DMs).

That Bendir's chief export is food but it by no means feeds amia to the point of starvation if bendir dries up. Hence why a topic about what's really going on would be good.

Though, the topic of town census data and the like is fairly off the original topic. Perhaps just something to continue in its own dedicated thread? Just my thoughts on the matter.
As for the actual topic, however, I had stated all I had wished to say originally.

On the subject of towns, villages, and cities, at the very least player characters should be able to determine if they are tiny, small, medium, or large settlements that are worthy(easy or tasty) targets or not by casing them out.

Is this still a topic on alignment. Where does that topic stand now?
My Opinion: Good is empathy. Neutral is empathy with some aspects of apathy. Evil is apathy
Law is upholding of one's moral princibles Neutral Is somewhat upholding moral princibles Chaos is doing whatever you want without moral implications

Bendir Dale is not the food supply of the entire island.
Cordor has existed for generations before Bendir Dale was anything more than a border fort for Cordor, and so has Kohlingen and Wharftown.
This simple fact of existence means that Bendir Dale can't be providing so much food that the island starves if the tiny halfling village falls. Kohlingen and Cordor are a magnitude bigger. It's simple logistics.

It's entirely plausible that it is pride or hubris that makes the halflings describe their own village as "Amia's breadbasket".

No, I've seen it factually stated OOCly. And I'm offering the correction that comes from my years of DM knowledge.

I know, but the view of Bendir Dale being "Amia's breadbasket" is an IC one. Even if it isn't factual.

The IC view comes from the mistaken OOC view, because people believe the stats and logistics back up their statement. In essence, they believe their character is telling the truth because of facts that don't actually exist.

It can be an IC/OOC stereotype, but Tormak has it right. And back, during the Ant Alarm event we had an actual talk about that where we (the Team) categorically stated that. Now..there is the capitalist standpoint that if Bendir falls out from the food market, or any element of the food market falls out, it will affect the prices. However, it will not cause famine or anything like that. Winya is the only exception because like every elven enclave, Winya sustains itself foodwise....not to mention that human food is not kosher enough for the elven stomach

About Cordor, I had made this thread back when I was a DM, for what would be public knowledge about Cordor. viewtopic.php?f=123&t=79132As for being damaged, well, they lost about 2/5 of their population and their central district is now a giant gaping sinkhole where they once had a district. The central district being abandoned is pretty viewable in the module, I'd think. Especially so when you consider all of the boarded up doors and everything being closed. That and the homeless beggar. Minus that watchtower, but...
