So I got my first EMD, chose the N. Outsider, Githzerai Savant, and was happy to discover it's a monk.

Two issues I have questions about so far:

1) I tried buffing it and found neither Flame Weapon or Greater Magic Weapon work, because it doesn't have either creature or melee weapon to buff.

Doesn't seem right. I thought monk gloves were changed to be buffable. It must not have gloves?

Can it be changed to be buffed with the above mentioned spells?

2) It has IKD feat, but hasn't used it. Why would that be?

I does have gloves. They should be buffable. It's possible the spell only checks for PCs with gloves and not gloves in general.

It using IKD or not is entirely at the whim of the AI. I can confirm I've seen it use it repeatedly before.

The gloves wouldn't benefit from gmw anyway and the summon has been balanced with the fact that there is no flame weapon.

K, whatever. Seemed odd, just wondered.

Will also jump on the bandwagon. The gloves are not buffable, but nor does he need it. It's a fine summon and any increase in it's abilities would make it super "O.P.' It's SR is respectable as are it's saves.
