HEy there, for my returning to amia I'm planning (or want to 'cause I'm not good at builds) to build a character that his duty is a tank, high AC or DMG reduction or both (I don't know if that's possible)
I kinda suck at making and planning builds... as I tend to base them too much in RP and, although is very nice, they get me killed a lot dungeoning :P
So this time I want something simple... A dwarf that goes melee fighting, with or without shield ( I think it's best for AC)...
As a dwarf I would like it to be something like a dwarven defender or/and knight commander, but I don't know which base class would be best and the stat distribution...
I've read of barbarian/KC that can have high dmg reductions (I know they can't be also dwarven defenders cause the aligment) so... your opinions are welcomed, as i got a little rusty with the game mechanics regarding characters makings hehe :D
Thanks for your time!

There really isn't a great way to have good AC and good dmg reduction at the same time without gimping yourself. You can have decent both, but that also gimps you to an extent.

I'd first suggest planning out what sort of character you want. If you want a chaotic character, barbarian is the way to go for dmg reduction. If you want a lawful one, there are some dwarven defender builds that absolutely can hold their own against most things.

Bear a few things in mind. If you want dmg reduction, you really need Epic DMG Reduction to make that worthwhile. So a 21 Con is necessary. That will lower your AB, but you can offset that either through barbarian rage or WM levels with a dwarven defender. If you want decent AC, you'll either need to take a tumble dump level, or cross-class the skill.

Check this out.

That's a decent example of a DMG reduction dwarven defender. Now, if you'd like to involve KC, then check this out.

Thanks, I'll read them both.
Truth be told I'm more inclined to the DwD/KC thing!

If you go off Mosh's build, don't go 19 DD. Go 18. You get bonus feats at 14 and 18. Take another level of ftr in epics instead. Extra feat never hurt anybody.

Yeah, that would be the only changes I would make to Suney's build. It's hard for me to go WM without the full 7 levels.

the last thing.... I'm between the above said or giving 7 Fighter, 5 WM, 18 DwD. So that way I think I can get another 3 dmg reduction from the DwD levls (in vanilla nwn they gain 3 more dmg reduction every 4 lvls above 10, I don't know if it's the same in Amia)
What do you think?

There's the other way to do this build. Basically, you have to choose between 3 dmg reduction or a bigger crit range. For me, that depends on your weapon. If you go with something like a hammer, I'd choose the damage reduction. If you go with a bladed weapon, I'd go with the bigger crit range.

Same number of feats with the bonus dd feat at 18, so it's completely up to you. Both builds are viable. If you're really looking for dwarf super tank, the 18 dwd build is probably the way to go. If you want a little more balanced approach between damage and defense, go with the 15 dwd.

I play only tanky builds....
And after the changes of shifter...
Last defensive build for me is wiz 4 / 12 Palemaster / 14 Dwarven defender.

Pale master/ Dwarven Defender is for scrubs, if you want to really tank go Fighter/Dwarven Defender/Knight Commander and get yourself up to 1k+ hp, then combine your hefty DR (combining your class DR and any slash/piercing/blunt you can get, I think it gets around 17 at some point) with your 25% physical damage immunity and you're looking at an unstoppable hitpoint wall.

And if someone starts to whittle you down? Heal potions restore 80% of 1,000 hp.

Edit: I may have written it as bard/kc/dwd instead but you get the picture.

It's 5% plus 1% per charisma modifier point to a maximum of KC level, which is five. So 10% max. Add that to a dwd build with epic dr, and it's ridiculous. So ridiculous that I wish I had done it. Boo.

Hmm? Oh, right. I wrote that if the top of my head, but barricade of swords is still a defender's dream. Also I just realized you cannot make a defender/bard so I almost descriptor went fighter
