Do Barbarians have disadvantages if they wear plate and use a shield?

I don't think so, pretty much all of them do on the server (cause taking Fighter levels is common).

No specifics for the class are affected by plate and tower shield.

The only real disadvantage is lorewise. Barbarians in lore don't generally wear heavy armor. It's mostly leathers and skins. But you know what happens in leathers and skins when you're strength based? You get obliterated. So...eh. Maybe if there was a heavy armor skin that allowed for that look, it would work.

Other than not looking cool, no. I personally wish the fancy rages worked only for the barbarians that honoured their archetype especially now that all armours can give the max AC with Dex modifier combination!

Being hella angry doesn't care what armor you got, so. Even in PnP, barbarians aren't precluded from simply taking Heavy Armor Proficiency.

I know I just like seeing classic class archetypes get extras to encourage pure classes or less cookie cutter stuff. The special rages were what've was arguing for not all angry faces. But that's just me!

Like bringing back the old haste rage and only applying it to barbarians not wearing heavy armor. Neat concept.

Seems like losing a major class feature wouldn't be worth it.
