Hi everyone!
Now, these are just some questions after reading some stuff the forums. I'm pretty much doing this off the top of my head, and some of the stuff I'm referring to might be a bit older (which essentially why I'm asking ;) )
These questions are completely theoretical right now, and as the topic says, quite random.
1. There's a rule about assassins having to inform a DM or the victim before a hit. Is there a time you have to do this in? Since telling him right before attacking seems unfair, but telling him two weeks in advance is too, somehow. (This is mainly a question since a slight amount of metagaming always there)
1.1 Am I allowed to make another char say it? Or even a different account?
2. Let's just assume I would like to build a house in, for example, the frozenfar no-mans-land. (*cough* “Evil, and Amia“ thread *cough*) How would I go about doing that? I mean, of course RP and DM assistance and everything. But essentially, is that possible?
2.1 Assuming after 2.: I now have a house. May I set the rules and enforce them like a city would?
3. Perma-death. Under what circumstances is it true and when not? Like, is there a rule about going to my death site right away after pvp? And is it (sorry if I'm offending anyone) just a way for DM's to say “this MAY not be touched or else“?

Thanks for your time and the answers, since I have not of course read every single post here, these questions might have already been asked, thanks for understanding.

edit: question 3 to actually ask about perma-death, not perma-ban.

1. You can tell a DM to send an anonymous warning to the player that they are going to be assassinated. Note that normal metagaming rules apply so if they're stood next to an NPC guard and you assassinate them the whole RP is void unless a DM is supervising.

1.1 The warning MUST come from that account and character, as I said above if you want it to be secret ask a DM to pass the message on.

2. Non-faction houses/bases aren't going to be approved, but we have a housing system on Amia. If the location you want to build a house in has no houses to rent, maybe put a suggestion in Improving Amia?

2.1 If you get one of the houses from the housing system, you're more than happy to set your own rules and enforce them, but keep in mind if you have a house in Kohlingen and perform demonic rituals you're likely to get caught and be removed if not killed.

3. I really don't understand your question here in all honesty. Perma-bans are normally a last resort for constant rule breaking. If you are slain during pvp and you are not raised, with clear indication there is going to be RP involving your corpse, you can't simply jump up and start round 2. Most people will raise themselves to be moved about if the PC(s) that killed you move your corpse about. You'd only be perma-killed with DM oversight or at your own desire (though the former overrides the latter).

Uhmm... just realized, I meant perma-death, sorry. Thanks for the perma-ban stuff too, though.

Then yeah, as I said, a DM will only ever slap a Perma-death on you if you've rightfully deserved it (seiging a city, consistent pvp etc) but this will only ever be done with DM supervision. Any other methods will come solely at your discretion, other players who are not DMs can not force you to be perma-killed.

Does taking care of telling the DM or player override the normal PvP rules? I mean, would I be allowed to just attck him without both players agreeing on PvP?

If you [the assassin] are using another of your PCs or another of your logins to warn the target, then this is essentially you interacting with your own PCs (because how would the anonymous one know) and is against the rules. If you do not want to tell the target yourself then by all means ask a DM to warn them.

Yes the DMs will tell the player if you ask them to. I've received such warning myself.

Isn't the warning OOC? I mean if I want to kill someone I do not magically tell him (via PM or ingame-tell) before killing him. Or is the DM telling him IC? How would the DM-played character know? Or do I actually have to walk up on the street and say: “Hey, this one guy gave me money to kill you. Have a nice day, see you when I kill you!“ ?

Heh well you got me there. The warning is OOC, yes.

As a general rule I avoid anything that involves another of my PCs though. That's just my headspace. :P

A good pointer though is always get a DM to pass on the assassination notice. That way if things go sour you have a DMs word backing you up. It is sad to admit but not everyone takes the resulting attempts well OOCly.

Better safe than sorry!

Also, involving a DM means that you can ask them to temp change your character's name as well; and you can alter your bio (make sure you have a copy of your current one to reset it back) for added depth of mystery!

It's all OOC communication.

If you tell a DM, and get them to oversee the Assassination attempt, the other party isn't entitled to an out. Standard PvP rules are waived due to the oversight and DM permission.

If a DM isn't present, you'll have to tell the player. And if they consent, then standard PvP rules are waved, due to a mutual consent.

If the player says "No, you don't have my consent." You have to respect that. You can still try to kill them, but you'll need to abide by standard PvP rules.

But with a DM present and their permission granted, it doesn't matter if the player consents or not. The DM overrules that.

Basically, you need one or the other. DMs probably won't say "No, I refuse," At worst they'll probably say either "I'm busy," or "You -sure- you want to try and kill someone in the middle of a highly guarded city? Ooookaaaaayyyyy!"

Players, it's either a hit or a miss. Not everyone is willing to put their characters in that position. In a lot of my experiences, if I've told the player, as soon as I get there, they've been all buffed and are surrounded by umberhulks :/ But not all, though! Some have been pretty welcoming an awesome~ :D

Use an ominous login, msg them. screenshot. if issues arise later you have proof you warned them. additionally why would you want dms to send this info when you can handle it? it's tedious and unneeded, just talk to each other ain't even a big deal

I heared someone talk about waiting two weeks between the notice that someone was being hunted and actually performing the hit. Is that allowed or do I need to specify that with the target? DM oversight will probably be difficult then. Also, DM oversight (sadly) requires three people intead of two, making it a lot less likely to happen in the first place :(

I said it before, I say it now and will say it in the future, I'm sure.

There is no point in playing an actual "assassin". Assassination is an act of suprise - so unless you catch an attention of a DM (not likely*), you have to warn the target. And even if you do it from another account, the target is still aware that there's a possibility of an assassination (which makes absolutely no sense anyway... how could they know in the first place? IMO, it's kind of a metagaming, but what you gonna do...) and for a few weeks becomes paranoid, constantly under TS and whatnot spell, leaving the safety of the town only in group.

* Do note, I do not think it's because DM will ignore you, it's because they are quite overwhelmed by requests as it is now and the chances that you get on the list is slim at best.

This comes from a player who actually have an assassin for a few years now and it's all based on playing experiences. This rule is killing the nature of the assassin class. And before this turns into "Oh, it's a good rule that prevents PvP abuse" kind of argument, don't bother. I've heard it all before...

The rule is there because attacking/killing someone without warning will come across as griefing. The killed characters player doesn't know it's an assassination, all he sees is the dead character screen suddenly pop up. And it's not the character themselves that know, it's the player.

Yes, so the information that the target has been assassinated can be posted post mortem for the player, so they can stop thinking it was an act of some random violence. Which makes much more sense. And which was proposed in every single topic related to an assassination subject.

No leashing timeframes, if anything it's better to just wait a few days anyways.

Assassinating other PC's is almost entirely pointless in the first place. There is virtually no way to ensure they stay dead for long, the only time assassinations tend to have any effect is when used to effect some plot, for that you probably want a DM because you should either be targeting A) A key NPC who has a better chance of staying dead or B) a PC at a time meant to remove them for the small period you can ensure in order to achieve some strategic result.

Either way "Assassinations" just as a stand alone thing are rather pointless.

Agreed, abductions handled in the right way is much more interesting!

Sneaky edit: Being "Larloched" and having a necrotic cyst implemented in your pc is.. Interesting (Dm permission and player permission granted of course)

Frankly too if you message somebody that you are planning to assassinate them your results tend to suck just since really as the party being assassinated you have NO reason to care to allow that to happen, there is no incentive to loosing as the interacting will basically end their either way.

With abductions and the like however you are actually giving some form of incentive to loosing, sure they will still want to "win" most likely but either way it adds incentives and possible plot hooks to latch onto (for both parties in fact).

I find it a good rule that when you screw people over you want to try to do it inclusively, make losing more interesting than winning.
