First, let me say that I love the job system; it's one of the primary reasons I play here, the others being playerbase and world build. That said, I have a bit of observational input about the Diplomat job system specifically...
It spawns your target in the most hostile places imaginable... conducting diplomacy in the middle of a diseased, spider-ridden swamp after fighting like a warlord to get there isn't exactly what I'd imagined the Diplomacy job to be... the targets, realistically, ought to spawn in civil areas, like a tavern, inn, neighborhood of a city, or other places that may not be well travelled or frequented, but do not require the diplomat to be a master of melee to get to. I understand that there are band-aids to fix this, like take someone to help, but that's beside the point. Beehives (for the chandler job) are in civil areas, not in troll caves, so it stands to reason that a job that absolutely attempts to negate hostilities should be conducted in more civil areas. Thoughts?
Yeah, a lot of jobs share similar mechanics (and code, I'm guessing) and this one sounds like a copy of "Big Game Hunter." Granted, it works for BGH, but not so much for Diplomat imho.
I reported sometime ago in Job System Bugs also that BGH (and probably this and other jobs like it) gets bugged as your character pushes into epic as the server code seeks areas to match your PCs, but on A it fails to find any as you near character level 30 and when you ask for a job it bugs out and reports it has found no areas matching your level, "Perhaps try on Server B, maybe?"
When illithid still existed, it would send you there everytime, but now with it gone, I guess there's no area labelled high enough on A to accomodate.
*Imagines what it must have been like for diplomats with illithid still ingame:*
"Hey you, I've an important dipolmatic mission for you. The ambassador of the halflings wants to meet with you, he is currently loitering in an illithid warren, go meet with him. Why is he there? Um, how should I know!?
Haha.

Pretty much every time someone complained about something concerning the job system the answer was the same "The job system will be overhauled somewhere in the future."
And this is the truth because it certainly hasn't been overhauled in the past. ;)
Then again, it's too bad it's not updated. It seems quite wacky to me at times. But I still like the job system for flavour, so it serves its purpose, I suppose.
Yeah, unfortunately it's not going to see change any time soon as it would all need to be overhauled. And, for now, we have more pressing concerns to tend to. Just something gotta live with, afraid!

I bet it's not that hard to redo the job system honestly. How hard is it to edit some MySQL tables or whatever it is you guys have going?
Unless you mean the DESIGN aspect would take a while. I can see that. I honestly don't know what half the jobs do so I don't know a better design for it personally.
Very few people have database access. Very few people can actually push scripts on the server. Very few people have testing tools. Very few people even have access to the scripts in question and none of the above really have time to overhaul the job system. That's mostly why the Improving Amia forum is closed, which is where a thread like this, and several others here belong... but eh.
Once again, if you understand object oriented programming, and would like to contribute to the world please apply! Otherwise saying it's easy and doing nothing isn't really contributing anything. The job system is mostly not a system of dreams on the code side, and I'll just leave it at that.
nwscript is structured programming paradigm, but without any real usage of the structs.

Wish i could just take job system jobs in bandits and beastmen as a level 30 still. >.>
It would be nice if these diplomat/big game hunter type jobs had at least *one* viable area at level 30 on A, right now they are a waste of job points if you play a character who has no interest in world-hopping.

Yeah, I'll send an application to the whole team. This right here, by the way, is the number one reason I don't really want to do much in regards to dev work. You want applications and stuff, or you have reporting systems, or mysterious lists of things you guys have to get done... But nothing really happens with this apparent paperwork. It's like you think you're a big company, and you act like you keep records like a big company, but you're actually a small group on the internet. Those two things don't mesh well.
Nevertheless I have little I'm doing and this might be good for me to stay active with coding for the next few months, so.... Here it comes.

When it comes to Module work, the submissions we get regarding Faction updates are to be posted here as it's view-able for all. Which is the reason I made it.
The rest are in our private forums due to rampant spoilers involved with what we do. That's the way it has to be, and I wouldn't change that. Sorry. My thread for submissions is about as public as we can get, and even then, people have PM'd me things regarding it because they don't want it public.

I recieved your app yesterday and am posting it to the development team today. The entire team makes a decision on who is accepted or not accepted, not just me. I don't suspect that many would really want to work with someone who expresses this:

as their general attitude towards the work that they do on a daily basis.
That is absolutely fine. I also don't care what you guys think about the fact that I am honest about the fact that I think things are not run correctly around here; if you let that stop you from accepting a new coder on your team, who would be willing and able to handle most of your needs, then that's your problem. You need scripters, not the other way around.

I still did not get an answer from anyone. Clearly there is a whole bunch of people who applied. Hundreds, maybe thousands.
This makes no sense to me. It shouldn't take that long to get back to someone (if he has even been responded to yet) about a job opening as vital as this one, for this server. That is what I mean when I say that sometimes things are not run perfectly.
