Question:
I'm having trouble getting DC's and i wonder how you guys go about it.
I try to always RP and get involved into events when i can(my time zone is rather bad for that sadly)
Over the years i managed to gather around 10-20 DC's give or take a couple, now i heard of folks having over 50 dc's and more
Already asked a couple dm's for some pointers and figured to ask here also, never hurts to get additional points of view.

Thanks!!

You have to get involved with the various rp plots. DM's move around unseen and reward you with them. A lot of the players with the 50-60 DC's are usually people creating rp, leading factions, heading IC player made events. I get most of my DC's through RP Parties, and just giving people stuff to do in Winya, as well as attending events.

If you are in the middle of some awesome role-play, tag someone with the DC wand to recommend the for a DC.

That is the quickest and surest way to grab an available DM's observation.

Being in a faction often helps as they usually have some RP going on where DMs peek in regularly. Though it is not for everyone of course. Not all love being in a faction.

Other than that... using the DC recommend wand when RP is going on is good. I almost never see recommendations when I am DM side. So I have to hunt down people individually and until I get to your group it may be over already.

I always forget about the damn thing and then just wind up sending a message up into the DM channel about it.

What everyone has posted here is the way to go. I will point out that I have seen very few DCs myself over the last three months or so, which is an unusual low. I tell you this so that perhaps you won't be discouraged about not presently receiving them. It may simply be that the DMs haven't had as much time to watch RP.

Yeah, the dip is likely a by-product of recent absences, team departures, etc.

When we've got some new blood, hopefully we have some regular voyeurs for all timeslots so everyone can get some love.

Well... to be honest, in 4 years playing here, I've gotten about 70 DC's. Like 25-30 of them in the past three months. Sooo.... I think being at the right place at the right time has a lot to do with it. Also, playing one character and making them part of the world is important. What do I mean by that? Well... I used to just make a concept character, run around, meet a few people, kill some stuff, etc. Then in a week or two, get bored, and wash, rinse, repeat. Then, I met Chance. He changed everything for me. Other than to help some friends grind, I haven't played any other characters in months. The response is almost overwhelming. People actually know of my character, well, some do anyway. It's pretty awesome. Because of this, he talks to everyone, knows a lot of people and because of that, seems to be involved in a lot of rp, and thus, I've been getting DC's... now, maybe he's just lucky? I don't know.

Being a member of the currently most powerful, wide-spread and player-heavy group on the server also helps in that regard, I think.

I have gotten DCs through casual roleplay with two other folks. Who knows how long the DM was watching that exchange. On the flip side, wands have been tossed at folks with server DM activity and nada. I'm not so quick to say that the roleplay wasn't up to snuff, but they can't be everywhere at once.

I have also found that some of my characters simply got more attention than others by virtue of always having more folks to be around. Don't let it make small group or even solo roleplay seem unworthy, though! Big groups and events are just more likely to have a DM stop by because of the concentration of roleplaying going on. More DMs or a more spread out active playerbase would remedy some of those ills.

Not always. At least half of my DCs I've earned have been on various alts, I think. It's more about 'right place right time' than anything. Sure, being dedicated to a certain character can help but if you are just spending time IG roleplaying then your chances are as good at getting DCs whether you are playing one character or several. Though, if DMs are sticking to certain areas and devoting time to just certain groups, then that's going to skew things in favor of a person's certain character and is something else that needs to be addressed.

I'm not pointing fingers in that, just covering the other sides of the argument people can bring up ;p

Weirdly enough Yoss is not just being naggy about this. I've had people get jelous when I've discussed my income of DCs before.

I realize my post may have sounded a bit snide and sour grapes-y, which wasn't really my intent, nor was I aiming to disparage anyone's roleplay (seriously, Chance is great fun to interact with). The thing is, though, that Wiltun has more players, more military power and more owned lands than any other faction on the server, by a solid margin. It would be strange if the DMs didn't give them a lot of attention.

I get it, and I appreciate it, but, as I write this I let out an audible sigh at the pettiness of people sometimes (none on this discussion!), and those that would take the words I gave in hope as words of bragging or arrogance. I hardly ever received DC's for years and watched others seeming to be overflowing with them. I assumed I was doing something wrong. I made changes to my roleplay, and my play in general, and Voila! So... before anyone gets jealous or starts any trouble over DC's or abundance or lack thereof, please look at what you are or are not doing and see if you can earn them for yourself.

Can't we all just get along? *sighs*

Funny enough, almost none of my DCs came from being part of Wiltun. Though I'm more less part of it, I can't be online in that timezone. I would go for right time and right place and I also agree with Chance that having one character helps with that. The more I was playing Cyn, the more often DMs were checking on me. (even sometimes when having some conspiracy RP behind closed doors).

Yeah, anytime the discussion of DCs comes up [in party chat or something] I do my best to not mention any hard values on what my DC bank may or may not be. It's just easier that way and you never know who might take offense. Personally I could not care less how many DCs anyone has, mentioning your total DCs just makes you look like this:

Bragging is not my intent, and many have come from non-faction roleplay.

Chance has received DC's while on dates....

And... aren't the Dwarves kind of a big faction? I believe they have more members, and control of a large area too.... Just saying. I don't want this to devolve further from the original topic so... I'll just say:

If you RP it, the DC's will come. If you tap folks with the green wand, they will hear you. Will you ALWAYS get a DC? Of course not, but... they will come if you consistently do the things that the DM's want to see in order to earn DC's.

Game on!

Yeah, no one should look at this thread and think you have to play A or B ways to get DC's. (Alphabet bitches.)

All forms, styles, inclinations, etc. etc. are encouraged because it gives our server diversity and variety. We want you guys to always be popping each other with those green wands so we can zoom around and take a peek at your RP when we're not busy. Being proactive in that can lead to reward!

Above all? Encourage activity, generate role play for the community or even partake in it when it's an event opportunity. That's the surest way I could ever communicate to increase your chances for receiving DC's.

I was only half serious. Exactly what Gorgy said! Just keep doing what is fun for you, the more you enjoy it, the odds are others are enjoying it to. A lot of the time it's just the luck of the draw, timezone, folks you happen to be RPing with, DMs lurking and watching, right place at the right time. DM events are a good way to gain DCs. Some factions have regular/semi-regular meetings that DMs tend to watch over. Just stay involved and generate RP when and where you can. School exams, summer breaks, the Great DM Exodus of 2015, are all factors in the availability/playtimes of the players and DMs alike to reward them lil buggers.

Honestly, the best way to get DCs is to not worry about them. Back when I was more active, I got quite a lot of DCs. I can count on one hand how many times I've used the green DC wand on someone during roleplay. And I didn't get them all on only one character, either.

All I did was RP with people.

I'm going to shamelessly use this thread to bump the idea that players should be able to reward other players with their own DCs.

I think that would do a lot to help the feelings that inevitably loom over any thread that brings up DCs. The sad fact is that there are a lot of great players who contribute a lot to the server but don't get DCs because they're either in a bad time slot or don't have characters that rock the boat/get involved in factions.

In the many years I've been playing here, I've received a total of 131 DCs. So.. I'm not exactly a DC Millionaire like some other older players are. I'll probably never use the DCs I have left because I hate making requests, so I'd love the chance to spread the wealth/love and pass them out when I see great RP going on but no DM available to reward it. I can't imagine that I'm the only one who would want to reward their fellow players this way.

Just throwing that out there!...again!

I am going to shamelessly continue to derail this topic to say that I completely and totally agree. I've meet so many players over the years that were utterly brilliant Rpers but lacked a good time zone to get DCs.

That's quite enough, don't you both think? The topic was discussed and the thread locked, let it be. If you want to bring it up yet again, then start your own thread and see where it gets you. These shameless derailments into topics that have already been discussed, should be reduced to a minimum, by a mature player base.

I think it's very relevant to this thread. We can dance around the issue by saying that people should just not worry about DCs, just keep RPing, use the green wand, etc., but all of that must sound pretty hollow to the people who get less than 15 DCs in 2-3 years when other players are getting 40 or 50.

I don't think that contrast has anything to do with the quality of RP. It's all about the kind of characters they're playing(the 'quiet' characters'), what time they play, and who/what their characters are involved with in game.

Dismissing the feelings that always spring up when threads about DCs are made does nothing to help the underlying issues and ignoring those feelings can only be bad for the server. The players that get DCs request things for their characters, burn them for XP, or donate them to their friends' requests... I don't think it's a stretch to think that the less DC wealthy would like to do those things too. I know I'd feel pretty crappy if I never had the DCs to request cool things for my character.

The Improving Amia forum is locked, so this seemed like the best place to bump it. So.. yar.

Actually, no. - Glim specifically asked that we not turn GD into another Improving Amia forum.

He and the Devs need time to focus on what is currently in front of them, not be distracted by more discussion on new benefits and functions that are already being considered.

Let's leave it where it is.

I understand that. Just wanted to point out what I think the real 'issue' with DCs is. Now to the OP!

Honestly, the best way to get DCs at the moment is to make a character that gets deeply involved in one of the major city-based factions on the server. They basically have plot armor and you don't really need to worry about the faction vanishing due to lack of activity because, being tied to major cities, there will always be some sort of activity. Stick with the faction and make it to faction events and your character will always be in the right place at the right time to get DCs.

The characters that don't rock the boat rarely get noticed on Amia because the ones that do tend to go out of their way to be have their hands in everything the DM Team touches. Not because the players are DC hungry hippos, but because a politically connected character is likely to be involved in any city-based events/plots the DM team is putting together. If you don't have one of those characters, have your character hang around one of those characters. It's just the nature of the beast.

I have to disagree with that. Crow doesn't 'rock the boat', and truth be told, most of my DC's come from casual role-play. Sure, some of that RP is on things he may be involved with, but for the most part, there's a group of random people doing or saying something interesting. Being in a faction is not at all needed to get the most DC's, though I won't deny that factions do promote role-play. Have your character make friends, and things will happen.

Crow is the top(only?) PC Ranger in the Grove, one of the server's major plot-armored factions.

I hope I'm not sounding snarky or anything. I'm not trying to be, I swear. Being involved in one of the major factions doesn't just help. It helps a LOT. If you want to gather DCs, that is probably the most sure way to get them.

But like I said, if your character isn't deeply involved, hav them befriend a character that is. The effect is almost the same.

Uh, no. Crow is not the only PC ranger in the Grove, and it has no bearing on this matter. And, I don't get all that many DC's with them. Not sure what you mean by 'plot armored', but it's clear you have no clue about the Grove. Enough of this though.

Use the green wands, and involve your character, you'll get DC's.

For me it's usually trying to get involved in events or being invited to dm events ic.

If not I don't seem to get much affect when I know there re dms on when I use the wand. The funny thing is people always poke me with their wands when no ones about.

On the very rare occasions dm's have been following one of my characters around all sneaky like and then after the end of a Sean they might suddenly poke me.

Some times I'll walk in to an area and poke people that are roleplaying and being very ic when I know dm's are on because even the little things folks do can really set the mood. One time I tried this with out knowing the pc was a dm character and got a funny message.

Any other times is when conflict arises and I'm involved usually as a negotiator on my pc is when people seem to poke each other with their sticks.

Factions are a good way to get dc's especially those that have active dm's. Not all factions have really active dm's so you wont always be so lucky~

I got most of my DCs from being in the right place at the right time, and doing my best to enjoy myself. I attended a lot of events, got noticed by certain DMs, joined factions. Make RP fun for those around you too, and soon enough they'll become a group of angry shoppers on Black Friday, beating you with their green bats.
