OpenTheRift (OTR) established a premise for this poll, and some viable questions. I recommended a poll get started, but was informed the know-how was lacking. So here it is! I think I did it right. Feel free to respond as you like, take this thread a new direction, or whatever... but it could be useful information to DMs/Developers especially! Even more so if people elaborate in comments on their own experiences and desires. Remember, giving those you roleplay with some information about what you enjoy can only enhance both experiences, as long as you don't feel like you're giving away your secrets. Start small if it makes you nervous!

My own elaboration is that I definitely spend the majority (I'd say at least 90%) of my time Roleplaying. The other 10% is probably 9% of my time Leveling- when a random mood strikes me and 1% of my time Searching for Roleplaying/Party-chatting. I do wander around occasionally, or, banter with people I've known on the server for years. Very rarely, but it happens. I'm pretty confident that I tend to be on the very Hardcore RP side of the scale when it comes to Amia, though, as I've spent my time watching and getting to know various years of the populace. I don't think I've ever begrudged anyone their powerleveling, obsessive boss-hunting or money hoarding though!

I do think the DMs have come to realize my preferences because of my extensive years here, and some have even noticed the stark contrast between my forum roleplay and my gameplay. I choose to present different styles in different arenas, for diversity and anonymity and my own personal sick pleasure, but I make no statement on what way is best to spend your time. Amia should always incorporate and focus upon Roleplay, but by no means does it prohibit one from the other things- or sometimes even enjoying those less talked about things! Anyways, go ahead guys! Make your choices!

I do a little of everything, but I have a trinity of status.
I am either:

Looking for RP, waiting for it, moving around expecting to find some, fooling with the inventory or in tells until I can find some RP.

RPing, in whatever shape it may take.

Rarely, and only rarely I go to level or try to boss-hunt alone. These do I do each often with other players in RP, though, but not as often as the other two points up there.

Designing. It isn't an option, but it is the majority (all) of my Amia time lately.

I selected four out of the ten:
Roleplaying
Looking for RP
Waiting in one place (or in that general area)
Roleplaying alone

But, I do all kinds of things if no RP is at hand too. Inventory reduction, outfit revisions or changes, mythal crafting, crow regularly patrols Amia and Caraigh, most often alone, and finds random RP. If Crow needs to let off some steam, I take him on a boss hunt, but it's rare. I like to explore the areas too.

1. Waiting in one place WHILE alt-tabbing, for which I am rewarded with RP about every other day

3. RPing alone, and sometimes I'll get a guest
4. Seeking out RP, which typically stems from results gained with the above efforts

I do boss hunt periodically, especially on weekdays when I have less time during peak Amia hours.

Looking for RP, Boss hunting, and going afk are probably what I do most. I'd like more rp, but it's hard to find consistent role-play.

Throughout my time on Emilie, I usually try to establish a "home point", somewhere I always plant her so when people wander by, they can reliably find RP. Used to be Kampos, then Tarkuul Castle, Fort Wiltun for a while, then the Nomad's Return during the war, etc... If she's not in those spots, I'm either doing one-on-one RP elsewhere or out on an adventure.

One thing I notice, which I hope can change, is that a lot of people use the forums for posts in different areas (the Life In [...] threads) which is wonderful, but I think people should actually do it in game as well. Let people interact, see who else is there. Make your presence known on the forums AND in game. I cannot tell you how pumped I get to see someone post in my neck of the woods and look for them in game, only to have them never come around.

On the flip side of that advice, I've posted in those threads and have had some really interesting RP scenes in game because people in that area knew where I was and what I was doing.

Indeed! Adding the option isn't helpful to the results, really, which does focus on player time. It just so happens I don't use any of my time for that.

I count how many times I can crash in one reset while I'm semi-AFK playing in the toolset or my Xbox to be honest.

I'm glad you brought this up, Azure. It ties in nicely with what I was talking about when I briefly mentioned the stark contrast between myself in-game and on the forums. I think I both agree and disagree with your point-- to me, it depends on what the content is.

For example- and I'm going to call Pony out here without asking- but Pony/Phearnun has always done a fantastic job with "organization" on the forums. Letters, missives, announcements, journals, and other penned items. Things that a character would sit in a room and do alone. While this person may also do this in-game, on an IC basis, while interacting, I (perhaps wrongly) assume that most of it is done forum-wise, separately from much of the game time. And! I have copied this, because I like it. I personally do not enjoy sitting around and doing menial tasks with others IC, unless prompted by the other characters. These are tasks my character (and I) enjoy on our own time, with my own devices that may not support NWN as a whole, so I can accomplish it on the subway or on my way to work or a myriad of different ways. That's my disagreeing side.

On the other hand, when it comes to "Life in..." threads, and people are wandering around, or indicating their presence in a certain area-- I always try to emulate that in-game, as it's more of an OOC/general prod to people to say: "Hey! I'm here in this place! Find me if you like me, if you're bored, if you're here, if anything!" So on that I agree-- if you post in those threads, please show yourself in-game. Show yourself ICly! I want to see you in THE LIFE! [That's the Caron side of me letting itself out OOCly. Don't be alarmed by my caps. ]

Well, I wanted to offer something (at least)! AND YOU SHOULD BECAUSE SOME OF US MISS YOU. Not naming names or anything...

Most of my time is spent in actual roleplay. The last couple of months while my main has been plot-blocked and none of her cronies were around I spent some time leveling and establishing a new character.

I'd say my in-game time these days breaks down to:
85% Roleplaying
15% Leveling

I have found that I at least have a hard time finding RP to get involved in quite frequently. Part of it may be that I only do a cursory look before going off to start leveling again, but another part is just that I can never figure out where everyone goes when there is 40 ppl on and I can't seem to find anyone.

Also, I seem to be ridiculously slow when it comes to leveling so I have to spend a lot of time at it to get my characters into the end game stages where they can keep up with the established ones.

So for me most of my time is spent either leveling or looking for RP with much less actually involved in that RP

RP... RP and well RP. There are wonderful RPers about and considering my main is not exactly the sort you'd stop and just 'chat' with I still manage to find those who stay their pitchforks and torches.

I do engage in solo RP... well I do have an insane character so talking to himself is par for the course, heh.

I admit that every time I think I'll have to pick up that alt to level I find... you guessed it, RP with my main. WOOT!
