Unless that was all part of your RP and you wanted to become the first undead-critter WM (Because Weapon Masters aren't just cool guys with high crits, yo!)

Okay so I am a new player to both NVN and Amia. Just been kinda playing around with a character. I have been kinda wondering how and what I can do with my build. Not being very experienced with the system and before I go any further in leveling. I want to have a clear path and focus in mind. Right now I am a level 5 drow fighter. I was actually semi curious about perhaps adding some cleric levels for some buffs or other things. Is this possible or a good idea? What other builds could I do? Some ideas or help would be great.

With this present build, is it possible to advance into a melee based fighter/cleric/KC?

Not very great with builds, myself, but that layout of stats won't work well for Cleric at all. The turning will be largely rather weak due to to only having 12 CHA. Also, you won't be able to cast any spells at all with having only 10 WIS.

I get that. I don't mind restarting if needed. I kinda mainly wanna keep cleave/greater cleave. Kinda in love with that feat other than that i don't mind changing. I guess i just need some advice on what to take when. Someone showed me the knight champion class.. sounds kinda cool.

Ah okay. Well, as I said, I'm not great with builds myself. Haha. Mind you, I do think Fighter/Cleric/KC can work. Especially if you plan on going for a sort of tanky support character. Knight Commander is probably the most awesome support PRC I've seen. It's reeeeaaally awesome.

Cleave/ Great Cleave are well... not -that- useful. Cleave is nice enough, as you get a free attack when you get a kill shot. Great cleave is really only useful on things you can kill with one hit, otherwise, it never goes off.
Yeah, you will want some WIS in there to cast spells.

Ya i get that and i dunno greater cleave goes off a pretty good amount for me... Guess what i need would be.. can i alter my stats thru leveling and placing points in say wisdom to make such a build worth while? or would rerolling with different starting stats just be better? what stats should i shoot for? Also how many lvls of fighter should i do versues cleric.. versus KC... that kinda stuff.

Yeah, you will want some WIS in there to cast spells. Great Cleave also fixes Cleave. There's a NWN bug where sometimes you won't get your Cleave if it's on a certain attack or something.

With this present build, is it possible to advance into a melee based fighter/cleric/KC? Like others had said, Cleric wouldn't help you. But if you like the Great cleave keep it, I like it myself. You could work your way for a dev critter. Fighter/Knight commander / divine champion? You'd have some good Saves and also a lot of Feats.

You may be seeing Great Cleave go off, but it's like IKD, it replaces Cleave so, even if it's just a cleave, it says "great cleave".

With this present build, is it possible to advance into a melee based fighter/cleric/KC? Clerics, like almost any other caster class, only work appropriately when you invest deeply into it, and with that wisdom the character is simply not cut to be a proper cleric from an IC and OOC point of view. You can rebuild, yes, but it would take... a lot of time until said character can develop a level of wisdom acceptable for divine magic. With that natural strength, you ~should~ keep Greater Cleave to appropriately cut your way straight to Devastating Critical. If you want to play a divine-likey character, you should work your way to the Divine Champion, instead of aiming for the cleric. And as it was said above (just up there, yes!), Fighter/DC/KC is a pretty stronk build that does not lack in offensive abilities.

This may have been covered somewhere in this thread already, but an idea has been bugging me for a while to make a great sword wielding sorcerer/rdd (perhaps inspired by Anomander Rake for those of you who know who this is). Is this even a relatively realistic goal? My build skills are minimal at best so any suggestions you experts may have would be appreciated!

I'm probably going to get ganked by the Dwarf rabble for saying this, but I'm thinking of making a Dwarf.
Thing is, the concept I have in mind needs to have some melee soloability due to his nature.
So obviously some concepts come to mind:
-Paladin based (bear in mind Dwarven -CHA) -Fighter/WM/Rogue based (Sword (well spear) and board build) -Maybe a Dwarven Defender base?
I'm new to Dwarven builds and in the case of this character, all good-aligned melee roles are applicable.
Any suggestions?

Synitry wrote: Ok so how many levels of fighter should i take compared to DC and KC? what should i look to have in my ending stats? what feats do you think would benefit me the most and i should look into obtaining? The simplest build is Fighter 5/ KC 5/ DC 18 It's a no-magic build hit-hard damage-harder with few tricks. You become basically immune to anything but straight melee attacks due to the lack of epic tumble and any stable source of AC. Pre epics should be: Fighter 5/KC 5/DC 10 You should try to fulfill the requisites for Devasting critical. You will need Skill Focus: Discipline and Toughness to take KC levels. Weapon focus. Weapon specialization. Knockdown and Improved Knockdown. Improved critical. Expertise and maybe Improved Expertise. Hells, you could take disarm if you wanted. Those are the usual things in pre-epics. With that level selection you'd have so many feats I wouldn't even know what to do with most of them. You'd have 15 feats to use before hitting 21. I hardly named 14 up there. The epic part is a little more straightforward. You get 7 feats there. (4 natural, 2 epic DC bonus, 1 fighter bonus). No, wait. What race are you playing there? Lemme check again.3 Natural, 2 DC bonus. And in this case, I wouldn't know what to sacrifice. You can survive with 25 STR uneven as it is, and take dev crit at your end build (at level 28). Armor Skin Overwhelming Crit Dev crit Epic Weapon Specialization Epic Weapon Focus At least one Epic STR feat to get your stats even. (You should have some final STR of around 26 at least, base) There are three bad sides to this build: You are short on tricks (No UMD, no epic tumble, few skillpoints, no magic except the divine wrath and yada-yada). I would have to define exactly the order of the feats, because it's a little tricky if you don't know your way around what classes can take which feats as bonus. (Yes, that's a bad side. Really (?)) The RP around this build is very zealot-like. A character with that many DC levels basically lives and breathes for his deity (or perhaps not, but that's my take on it). ALTERNATIVELY you could do something like: Fighter 14, KC 5, DC 1 pre-epics, and take 8 straight levels of DC in epics. That would solve your feat problem in epics, albeit you'd be lacking in the best the DC has to offer (crazy saves, divine wrath) and I wouldn't recommend it.

You'be losing one epic feat. Although you ~could~ compensate going Divine Champion 14 and taking 4 more fighter levels in epics. It's almost the same result, and you get your free STR feat back.
In fact, I think that'd be even better.

*Loading... loading...* DOH. Yes, but that would imply taking only 5 Fighter levels in pre-epics, again You could ask a DM to delevel you to go back to 5 IG without needing a request, since it's a simple small enough thing. Or you could go and build ahead and maybe correct it in the future with a proper rebuild.

With this present build, is it possible to advance into a melee based fighter/cleric/KC? To be honest I think you should take a break and breath a little now. I don't think you need to reroll at all, you should keep going fighter lvls but I would recommend to go fighter/wm/rogue rather than fighter/Divine champion/knight commander, this way you get more ac which is one of the most important stats. Also with just 6 fighter lvls you won't have weapon specialization or epic weapon specialization, which both give you bonus damage you don't want to be without. Your general attack bonus will be higher, and so will your ac, it is also easier to use than a DC/KC and less punishing if you do something wrong. You really want a rogue or bard level to tumble drop, which gives +5 ac at 30 skill lvls, heck, the server is balanced around you doing just that. Also, it's in my opinion one of the strongest noncaster builds there is, if not the strongest. And yes, you do want devestating critical, or at least the strength required for it (25, 26 str though would grant you +1 ab and +1 damage/hit)

The real question is never "what do you want to build?" But "what do you want to play?"
I just offered a not-so-messed up approach on KC/DC. The rest is up to the player to discern if he wants his character to go that direction.

Good point, so what's the characters theme? and also, are you familiar with the forgotten realms lore (drow in special since you're playing one)? it's what Amia is based upon

I just remembered that all the abilities of the KC are influenced by Charisma, and while the influence is not significant, it's still something to bear in mind.

I'm currently leveling a KC and I was debating about the usefulness of taking imp power attack? Thoughts on this?
My build is str based with a battle axe and is currently rg 3/ftr 10/KC 5
I am working towards getting dev crit, so have already taken power attack

You could use IPA to farm Intermediate Mythal Reagents from level 15 mobs when you need to pimp out your gear with those tricky +1 ability bonuses, so it's a bit lackluster on you. Not by any stretch of imagination does your AB reach such heights as to properly utilise IPA against high-end monsters. A bard might be able to spiff your AB just enough for that, but in all likelihood you won't find one.
If you've got all the essentials covered, (that is KD, IKD, Blindfight, Weapon focus, Improved critical, Weapon specialization) I'd just invest heavily in saves. Some perverted people have a penchant for Expertise, but the thought of trading offence for defence would never occurred to me.

Kamina, you can't just tell us to decide what you want to play. All of those fighter types are sturdy and have various build pathways to completion.
Paladin is best made from a Gold Dwarf. I played a Paladin21/DwD5/Fighter4, which is the non-UMD-fullTumble (read: worse) version of your regular Paladin/Rogue/Fighter, but it is still a solid brawler with a hint of dwarf.
Fighter/WM/Rogue you can figure out on your own. Fighter12/WM16/Rogue2 is the bulk model for a reason.
Dwarven Defender is almost invariably either Fighter11/DwD18/Rogue1 or Fighter7/DwD18/WM5 or Fighter8/DwD15/WM7. The former, I think, is self-explanatory and is handy in both STR and CON, but the latter requires an explanation. Uce and I and various others have experimented with a two-hander, EDR III model that relies heavily on attrition warfare. For many mobs and builds, killing a 700HP dwarf with physical damage reductions around 30s and passable elemental resistances is like chipping ice with a twig. The core idea is to sacrifice AC for hellish resistances and damage. The hard knocks experienced through endless trial and error have proven us that AC is not worth sacrificing. Running with scissors can be rewarding, but don't do it with your pants down. What I mean to say is, AC comes pretty cheap and is definitely worth the investment. Weapon and shield is the way to go, in spite of our futile efforts to create something out of the ordinary.

Awww poor Captor.... his story and RP are fun, but like I'd turn anyone away from playing the funnest and most totally awesomeist race evah!! I can't build worth a damn so I can't give you any insight there brudda. Still dieing to see someone pull off that Dwarven Ruhn monk and keep it up. Couple have tried but didn't last real long.. it's a facet of RP in Barak Runedar that's been missing since I got here. Also a druid/sorcerer = Geomancer would be cool RP as well for anyone looking for off the beaten path dwarf ideas. But no one can blame you wanting to play an ass kicking dwarf.

I played a Monk21/DwD5/Ftr4 Devcritter who was a robust wee thing, way back when quarterstaff didn't laugh so loud at the idea of a STR monk using anything else.
He'd still be a robust wee thing, but I'd maybe tweak to Monk20/DwD6/Ftr4 and hope the trade of 1 Spell Resistance and 10% move speed was worth the 3/- DR, and I'd definitely change to quarterstaff.
Opustus covered the non-Monky options.

Posting 2 builds for feedback and possible errors. I want to roll a dwarf. Which one do you think would be a better solo build? Can you suggest a way to tweak one?

WM7/Fighter8/DwD15: You hit the goblin on the head with that dwarven hammer. I personally feel Blindfight is more useful than IKD, though essentially it is a Sophie's choice.
Rogue3/Fighter9/DwD18: First I'll point out the obvious flaws, if you will.
DEX13 is silly, you can get your grubby wee hands around umpteen items with single use/day Cat's on them. DEX10 will bump starting STR up to 17 and either even out the CON deficit or utilise Great Strength I to boost attack and damage.
The rest of it are matters of taste, and so all the more worth arguing about. Firstly, scimitar for a dwarf? You pervert. Secondly, your clan will bully you for having odd Fighter levels. Fighter10/Rogue2/DwD18 seems like the ostensibly superior choice for the advantage of +1 epic feat. I'd personally also whore a whole lot of skill points by starting with the Rogue level; as it doesn't even give you the XP penalty, I can't really see a reason not to. Apart from that, there's nothing I can teach you, child. You're ready.
Both can solo. The former doesn't hit like a wet towel, the latter does but has UMD (duh). I have a huge kink for dealing big damage, especially when playing something short, so I'd be gay for the WM most def.

On NWNwiki, dodge requires Dex 13. Dwarven Defender requires dodge. I kept Int at 13 for the disarms.
I like your split at Rogue 2/Fighter 10/Dwd 18 better. The extra feat got me EP for a +1 ab at the loss of Uncanny dodge, a skill dump, and 1d6 sa. Also, I calculated the AB from Strength wrong (so another +1 AB as 5+6=11 not 10). I put rogue 1 at 12 to net 15 to tumble (half point). Here is the rogue one now (though I like the WM more think). I can't think of an effective DwD/Rogue/WM.

Question: melee cleric build
I can either have 42 ab plus divine favor and power (51 ab) with an 8 cha modifier for divine might/shield OR 40 ab plus df/dp (49 ab) and 10 cha mod for dm/ds.... Which to choose?
Also, quandry between craft wand and extra turning.... Thoughts?
Thanks for the help!

Hello, wondering if there's some way to make a viable build that is primarily a melee class (Ranger, fighter, barbarian, won't be LG so no paladin), but with some cleric lvls

I don't suppose Divine champion would be an option?

Totally viable. Depends on how many cleric levels you want, really. Too few, and it's really going to be a waste. I'd take just enough warrior levels pre-epic to get your 4 attacks, and then go cleric for the rest. You probably want at least 17 cleric, to get the 9th level spells, but I'd really just go ahead and get 20. You can make a powerful 20 Cleric, 9 fighter (or barb), 1 Rogue. I'd probably go with trickery/something, but it's really not critical. Take the rest of your warrior in epic, and get your good epic feats. You'll be able to solo everything.

If you go fighter, you should be able to stat for a basic evocation caster (WoF and Implosion) w/ Epic Spell Pen and Evocation Focus, and still get in all your feats for Dev Crit, with some to spare. I'd plot it out to be sure, but both should be possible.

On a level 20 server, I had a WM/Cleric/Rogue (7/10/3, I think), Trickery/Travel. She was really versatile, had a lot of skills, and kicked ass when soloing. I've always wanted to try that out here, where I had 10 more levels to play with.
However you end up doing it, you'll probably be OK. I've always found cleric builds to be decently powerful, so it kind of boggles my mind when people playing them say they suck. I'd probably be playing one now, if I wasn't so completely over having to spend so much time prepping spells and casting after every rest.

Cleric/WM requires to many different things from its class and feat spread to be really any good on a server like Amia. The character's stats will be spread to thin since you can buff your stats to +12 through gear really easily so unlike a low magic server you don't have the edge of having self buffs.

This is, I fear, mostly true. While the build would still be able to solo bosses, and would have a versatile set of skills, it certainly wouldn't be anything super-special, and in most cases wouldn't be any better than a F/WM/R deal. The self-buff stuff that makes it good on a low magic server is pointless here because you can get most of the buffs from other sources. That's kind of true for clerics in general on Amia. It would certainly be a more balanced character stat-wise, and you wouldn't have to rely as heavily on items, but you'd still be better off just taking something other than cleric.
