Hey guys!

So, i've been playing Amia on and off for a couple years now. I love what you guys are about, and - as a veteran of World of Warcraft roleplay - boy let me tell you it's better here than elsewhere.

But time and time again I really struggle to find my place in the community here. I make a character, I quest, I have some great random RP and hang around the hubs, but I find it really hard to get into any consistent group. On World of Warcraft, most roleplay takes place in groups of players called guilds that any player can join up with and know exactly where to go and who to hang out with, so getting integrated into the community is pretty easy.
These forums are really active and there always seems to be events and storylines and characters interacting, so this kind of consistency and integration must be possible as well here, but I just can't find it!

Any pointers from all you regulars and veterans on how you slotted in?

Thanks!

Throw your PCs name up here. Our community is very inclusive, they just kinda get distracted at times with all the things going on. I guarantee that if you feel like you wanna get involved in something and you drop your handle here, folks will go out of their way to try to get you involved in some way. Sometimes out players, especially new ones, just need a little helping hand.

If you got a pirate-like character, I suggest joining up with West Cordor.

If you've got a drow or another Underdark race characte, come around L'obsul and Nec'perya, there's good RP going on.

Basically if your after a guild sense of belonging, a Faction is your way to go!

The STU/Guard of Cordor is -clearly- your best choice, hands down. And no, im not bias at all! >.>

What the people here are saying by shamelessly selling their factions to you is that factions and groups are indeed often the way to go for consistent, fun RP. There are numerous factions on Amia, all of which have different ideologies, methods, interests, etc. If you give us an idea of what kind of character you have or are interested in playing, we can probably suggest something that you'll enjoy. OR, another great way to find a place for your character is to ask around IC. Find someone who looks like they know their way around and see if they can guide your character in the right direction! Explore the cities and settlements, as they often have different RP styles and facets of interest.

Alternatively, join Tarkuul. I'm not saying that we're the best, but actually I am saying that. We're awesome.

Disregard these fools.
You want to play a kobold and glare at the surfacers.
You must play a kobold.

Or a bossy dragon-blood. That works too.

Having been in a good few factions over my time here, I can deffinately say that I too, love faction RP. This server offers awesome faction RP with active DMs that interact heavily. When I now say "Throw yourself in the deep end", go to a hub, like you have, inquire about your interests, give it a day max, and if you haven't found what you're looking for, I'll eat my hat. There's a faction for every type of character, finding it's the hard part, but quite arguably my favourite. :P

Feel free to kick a tell my way if you see me in game. My characters are listed below, and my player name is the same as my forum name.

-Theadric Shortwick
-Shade Illith'vir
-Dro d'Ussen d'Vhid
-Hektor Bluheim
(I have a tendancy to play alts, what can I say?! ;P)

P.S.
Ice will eat your soul if you disobey him, so do it! It'll be great RP. ;)

Always welcome to try an outsider's view of the RP too! Hit my character Ferris up sometime and he can show you where things are, where rp is, and all from an outsider's relatively unbiased view. He'll even be generous in explaining the druids!

Thanks for all the replies guys, what a great community.

It's good to know there's such a variety of groups to get involved with, that's reassuring. I guess it's just a matter of picking a faction and gunning for that, which works fine for me. I'll check out all of the ones listed in here (or try to anyway, given there are like twelve!), thanks for the invitations.
And thanks to the guys who have posted their char names here, i'll take you up on that offer and look out for you ingame. I don't have any active characters to my name at the moment really, although my character kicking around from last time was a Dwarf called Mathos Gildreach who worshipped Abbathor and dreamed of buying the island. He always felt a little too evil for Barak Runedar!

P.S. Are there really kobold roleplayers out there?

I can count at least 8 active kobold players that log nearly every day.
(Though 2 of the characters are dragonblooded)

There are!

Followers of Abbathor are allowed in Barak (if not well liked perhaps) as Abbathor is a member of the dwarven pantheon. You can visit without fear of losing your beard!

In fact, knowing how awesome our dorfs are, I encourage you to visit Barak and mingle with them.

Here is a list of some of the approved factions. You can learn some basic things about each one.

We support our kin, but the council has ruled open worship of abbathor cannot be allowed for the overall sake of the hold. Another frozen hole in the ground is a constant reminder of that.

Willing to reform? Sure, we'll help. Not? We'll support you till yer on yer feet and can make the trip to your destination elsewhere.

The easiest way to really get into consistent RP groups is factions, yes. That said, it's entirely possible to do so outside of such, if you find a consistent group of adventuring allies or the like and a common hub that you tend to meet in. (Such as Cordor East.) Just don't feel shy; most everyone is very welcoming OOC, even if they sometimes aren't very friendly in-character. My main character, for example, is kind of a total jerk, but I always love talking to new people, even if it isn't on the most friendly of terms.

But yeah, your most surefire way to get into a consistent group is just to join one of the many factions. Or more than one, if you have multiple characters! Do as much or as little as you want. :D

And, on a side-note...

Dude, yeah, there's a lot of them, and we're quite active. I know of five or six that are online on an almost daily basis, and there's over twice that many if you count less frequently-active players. We're working to get a faction forum right now, and starting to get into local inter-faction politics. It's pretty awesome.

I'm not trying to sell you on joining us or anything, but if you're interested in more info, feel absolutely free to contact me about it. We're happy to answer any questions about playing a kobold and/or joining the tribe we've got going, and we love newcomers. Just feel free to let me know; it's an open offer.

Also, the dwarves seem really cool, too. I'd totally encourage joining them if you're interested. Though I've, sadly, not gotten to interact with them much; Barek Runethar is not particularly reptile-friendly.
