Now, Amia feels small.. but that is the limitations of NwN and how the server was built i think. Looking at one of the maps that our good friend Alphawaves made, he suggested it was about 100km from Cordor to the Delta. Does that sound right? Seems a bit far, id say half that maybe? What im trying to do is work out something like a patrol route, and while doing so setting a point from A to B that would require a 20h march is.. a bit extreme! So im trying to sort the distances a little bit here. This is what i think im going to use for est travel speeds: http://rhiannonjtaylor.files.wordpress. ... speeds.pdf (Edit: lol some of the conversions mph-kph are backwords. Close enough!) I expect that the time it takes from Cordor to the Delta is about an day walk. My understanding of a lot of towns is that their built about a day apart, as you travel from point A to B from morning till night, it seems logical to build a town or inn on points A and B if lots of travel is expected. Now i don't know if that is the case for Cordor - Delta - Wharftown - Uhm - Kohlingen (If the 'old road' where there). Anyway, kind of a difficult one maybe, but id be greatful for official DM guesstimation on the matter, or reference to where it is stated!

Brings to mind some things of Geography too.. What is the highest peak? Skull Crags i expect, but at what sea level? Under ideal conditions what might the viewing distance be from said location?
Kind of odd questions sorry! I'm picking at Alphawaves map as a basis and looking at various locations in a more defensive light given the current events. For example having an outpost at the highest point, which is right along the east coast of the island, could perhaps act as a lookout point to the sea.

The maps drawn for Amia are also way off in their respective proportions, because some distances are bigger while others less so. If you for instance draw a map with the Skyforest, Quagmire Swamp sized correctly, you would notice the shape of the northern island would change considerably. Same goes for the Forest of Despair and Amia Forest. While that does not awnser your question, I just made it more complicated. You are welcome.

Yet another thing to add to the pile, an official map of Amia! If i map out the whole island with the explorer job, put it all together in inkscape the basis for a map would be had.. at that point its just a matter of an artist drawing up a decent looking design.. Mmm maybe i will work on it, get a rough draft and send the file to the team to approve or fudge the pieces around a bit to get it in the right proportions. Also thank you Pony for Inkscape, layers, i love layers, so many layers! And tools, other tools are nice too. Also free. <3

So then... we don't know the distances?
Does anyone know how long Amia island is, along the longest axis? With that information, the other distances can be calculated with a little effort.
I'm asking because this is important for something IC relating to current plotlines.
Thanks!

Here are some maps of Amia. More-Accurate, Roaded MapOld-School, Terrain MapThere is no accurate scale for distances (obviously Cordor is not 60 kilometers from the Southern District to Cordor North). You'll have to make estimations on what feels appropriate.

Safe to say the island is about 1,000 km long?

I appreciate the creation of a map as accurately as possible, considering every area.
Keep in mind of township populations. Cordor's population is ~26,000 I believe so consider how large of a city not accessible to adventurers Cordor must be to support that population. Or, perhaps, the DMs could authorize an alteration in lore, if needed.
Please let me know when the map is finished- this could be implemented in RP and the Oghmans would be interested in participating.

My guy on the inside suggested the Island is 80-100 KM North to South, so i will assume furthest point to furthest point is going to be about 100 km, or 62 miles. Using Alphawaves map we can get an idea of distance from town to town, but again that would not be correct as the map itself is not fully correct. I will have to stop being lazy and just map out all the areas in game.

That's been done, but even that isn't accurate. The Sky Forest and FOD areas are two that are greatly out of scale, just to fit the map. I got the same information about 80-100 km at the longest point. Seems we need someone on the team to either create or approve a scale-accurate map of Amia?

Just an educated guess, but it is probably going to be more like someone designs a map and gets the DM Team's approval. Not sure if they have a cartographer on staff.

Speaking of that.... I actually bought a fantasy Cartography program, and was thinking of putting together some maps for use for the player base (To get both use and practice with the program). However... due to the lack of concrete data on distances, the first maps I was going to do, I was going to do in a style of more medieval cartographers. So Olde Worlde Here be Dragons type maps.
After I had done those.... I was going to start putting together more detailed and accurate maps if people wanted them done.

I tried asking this question a while ago because I thought it would be handy to represent the distance between maps, but everyone was happy with Kohlingen officially being a 2 minute hasted monk run from Cordor. I would be very interested to know the actual distance, because while this is a fantasy setting, it's not the goddamn Far Realm, it doesn't hurt anything to figure out solid dimensions.
EDIT: I should mention I sound a lot saltier about this than I actually am. It doesn't really matter how far everything is from anything else, what matters is that I will always get there first. Ha.

About 100 km sounds believable. 1000 km would leave us with space for at least ten cities in a straight line with towns and settlements between each of them, with plenty of room for forests and wilderness to spare.

I always imagined Amia to be about the size of Tasmania, geographically speaking. It even has spiders 'large enough to have health bars' as it were. The island is 364 kilometres (226 mi) long from its northernmost to its southernmost points, and 306 kilometres (190 mi) from east to west. Granted, this is just my own idea of the size and not necessarily the shared view of the team. What we have of present playable island doesn't presently include all of the other side of the Skull Crags either, which also seemed to have woodlands and a lot of space. Keep in mind appearances as well. 1:1 Scaling isn't feasible for a city the physical size of Cordor, yet it works out just fine with places like Kohlingen.

If Kohlingen was scaled 1:1, it would have homes for max 500 people.

It is still closer to scale than Cordor :p Wharftown then?
But yea, designers sometimes need to miniaturize things in order to save on room for fun stuff elsewhere.
We are particularly blessed with some Toolset wizards who do a great job of getting the 'feeling' of an area into their work.
