I feel like I ought to apologise on that front, exams have just started for me so I haven't really had much time to play and any play time I have been doing's kinda devoted to Deevdru. But I am most certainly game for bringing Sam out for anything predefined, just a case of trying to get Deevdru set up taking greater priority.

I'm probably in minority here to have a hin PC as my main. Though RP had brought her further away from Bendir Dale. But when new Mayor will be chosen (I don't mind a NPC Mayor, it might actually help. As we'll be sure you're not going to leave after several weeks, I think!) we can get more involved politically. I know my hin is always quiet and trying to blend with the wall during town hall meetings, but that doesn't mean she's uninvolved

I originally wasn't going to comment on this, partially because Jes said much of what I was thinking already.
However, a few things I'd like to express:
I really do love my character Max, but, I find it difficult to play him all the time due to difficulties that exist in Bendir Dale. I'll explain:
Halflings, though hardworking, industrious people, in general (my understanding), want to be left alone. They want to grow their crops, drink some ale or mead, and smoke a good pipe with friends. They're intended to be a happy, isolated sort of people. Cares about the outside world are just that... the outside world. Sure, they would know that politics are important, to some extent, but, they wouldn't be looking to become a world superpower. They'd rather be left alone.
What some people see as lazy and uninspired, halflings see as a good life outlook. They look at some of the other cities and would say they work too hard, and don't smell the roses along the way.
As for difficulties in the Dale, from mine (and Max's) point of view. I began playing him heavily several weeks ago, right at the time that Breazy left and Thea was fired. Suddenly, he's told Nof is his "boss", yet, sorry Hudson, in all the time I played him, not once did Nof interact with him. Perhaps it's a timezone thing... I don't know.
The one day I can remember seeing hins acting like hins was good and bad, from an OOC point of view. We had two elders of Bendir in the Hin Inn. Max had never met them, and had no idea who they were until I found a page on the forum that told me, hours later. These two were extolling the virtues and greatness of some local born brand new character hins (that actually were pretty amazing to rp with). However, it really felt like favoritism to me. Here, my character had been standing guard, day in, day out, for hours at a time. He'd been killed and attacked physically on several occasions. He'd been teased, taunted and verbally abused on many more occasions, to the point that I wasn't having fun anymore. Then, I walk in and see this. I suddenly felt unimportant and small.
Then, to have a DM run for Mayor, and jump on it so quickly really made me, as a player feel that there was no point pushing anything as Max, since, it wouldn't change anything. Max, as a resident, had never met Nof, and so, had no reference to vote for or against him other than what others told him.
Since this time, I took a bit of a break from Max, and got a rebuild for him to bring him more in line with what I wanted for him. The first day I came back with him, it all happened all over again. At least this time, some of the physical problems had some actual RP attached, though, some had none at all.
I've tried to "go with the flow". I've tried to "enforce the rules". Neither seems to work, and from Max's perspective, quitting the militia and leaving the Dale is the best option to be happy. All he wants to do is be a "grand adventurer" and sing songs and tell stories. I don't know that that is even possible in Bendir Dale anymore with so many non-hin coming in and acting as if they own the place and pushing around those that live there.
I've not seen anything like this in any other city on the server or on any server I've played on and I've been playing NWN in PW's for about 6 years.
No, I am not offering answers, because, frankly, I don't have any to offer. I really don't know what to expect from DM intervention other than, break up the "every day life" with events that we can't provide ourselves. The issue is this though, the second people find out you are doing things in the Dale, characters flock there. I'm not saying to exclude people, as this is a social game to begin with. I'm just saying that, when "outsiders" get involved, many times, the people who have spent time in the Dale, trying to help, get forgotten and trampled in the wave.
Though I would love to be more involved in the Dale, I'm afraid that being a Wedding Photographer, many of my weekends are taken up with work, so I cannot be there when meetings are going on most of the time. I do understand that's when larger groups can be online, so, there is that conundrum too, and that may be why Max has not interacted with Nof and some of the other NPC's of the Dale.
At this point, I'm just rambling, so, I'll stop. As you can tell, I'm pretty upset about this and still wondering what to do with Max. I've been playing some alts lately simply to avoid having to make decisions about him. Please don't take that as I don't care, because, I do and I'd like to see some positive influences in the Dale.
Hudson, thank you for making this thread, and, thank you for listening to everyone. As a player, it's greatly appreciated.

This is why events like wars and blight effect the characters so much, it's not just an irk on their shoulder, it's an entire cultural and lifestyle damage. We had a big conversation about this in Kampo's with Cory, Crow and Thea the other day, actually.

Nof never was anyone but npc's boss. That said, I spend quite some time around the Dale but I can't play in weekday US times. If you ever need Nof for anything my inbox is open. Quote: The one day I can remember seeing hins acting like hins was good and bad, from an OOC point of view. We had two elders of Bendir in the Hin Inn. Did you notice the surnames of the hin and the npc's? They were the same. That was family so naturally they were favourably inclined towards their own family. Besides, both were trying to outdo the other in praising their kins virtue. I am sorry you feel like that but this was a 100% ic. Quote: Then, to have a DM run for Mayor, and jump on it so quickly really made me, as a player feel that there was no point pushing anything as Max, since, it wouldn't change anything. Max, as a resident, had never met Nof, and so, had no reference to vote for or against him other than what others told him. An npc ran for mayor, not a DM. That's not the same, I would have been quite happy with Nof being beaten in the elections as explained above. With Theadric resigning from the election due to ooc reasons only Pebbles ran as pc and she wasn't very serious. Quote: No, I am not offering answers, because, frankly, I don't have any to offer. 'Outsiders' have never been involved where 'locals' were not or did not have the chance of getting included easily in my events centering on the Dale. My main aim is when someone has an idea to make that possible like with caravans leaving the Dale when Jannah made an agreement with Marcus. Those caravans were pc guarded. Quote: Hudson, thank you for making this thread, and, thank you for listening to everyone. As a player, it's greatly appreciated. Thanks for that. I hope you find your fun back in Max. If you need to see an npc send me a PM so I can try to accomodate you but I do have a job so that does cut in my time.

Both events were part of a bigger plot and I daresay the blight ended with some very good rp. And that is why I don't throw random negative events at the Dale in need of fixing and rather focus on positive things. But the war is there so the Dale will have to take that into account. The npc's don't like it either though hence the complete absence of any war fervour in the Dale.

Oh no no don't get me wrong, just saying it's why the OOC looks at IC attitudes of being lax lead to some players in previous thread calling our characters generally lazy, when in fact it's how Hin function. Without morale, they struggle typically. Though I won't derail any further, was a bit of a rant stemming off Bidocks' point :p

Well I'm guilty. I'll just confess that I'm not putting enough effort when it comes to plots, townhall meetings and all of that... For that i'm sorry. Partly because townhall meetings are usually at a time when it's hard for me to log on, but the other half being if I do manage to have my character sit in a townhall meeting i'm likely to be semi-afk due to the time itself or the fact that I can't handle things which I'd consider boring - entirely my fault. I don't know... one minute i'm enthusiastic about the townhall meetings and the next thing... *Zz zzzzzz*. I'm sorry Rosary doesn't input much, however i'm quite happy sitting on the sidelines. Still taking in all the information and all There's just something pulling me back when it comes to the Dale politics. It's something I have to work on. If Rosary is asked to help out on something from a friend then i'm happy to include her. Sometimes i'm out of my comfort zone and that's when all Rosary can do is suggest what direction to take. As for what was mentioned above, there is a barrier that prevents me from going deeper into an event. The commitment you have to put IG and the consequences of going further. It's daunting. Also, I do like seeing other characters shine. I have a habit of holding back... holding back too much that it appears i'm not using that time to involve Rosary. Again something I have to work on. I do think that catching people off-guard works. Small events that move towards a bigger goal. Like a random encounter in a cave which happens to have many materials for building which ends up being used for the war! I don't know... Also I wanted to bring this up, I hope it's not seen negatively. During the blight there is no doubt that the RP was very good. We went from searching libraries, digging grounds during the early stages, small tests etc. But in the end it wasn't the Dale who got rid of the blight, it was another group, even though we went through all of that. It felt demoralising, knowing that everything the Dale did, did not make the blight go away especially when we were back on track. Maybe It's just that I don't know the full story behind it. So If it's an expectation from a DM it would be to at least let the actions of the Dale have an effect or move the plot rather than the achievement of "at least one box is ticked and it didn't work" when it comes to solving a problem. So yup... direction.

That other group put their time in it too Elyon and it's not the result that counts but the fun you had working towards it I think (I hope!). Some of those things you lot regarding the blight did still motivate people into doing things as of now and that is simply wonderful.
I had a lot of fun DM'ing things related to the blight.

I agree that it was fun working towards the blight, and we have become motivated since the second half period of the blight. I appreciated that the other group were working on it too. The point I wanted to make was that as one of the few who remained active from the very start until the very end of the blight we, the Dale community, asked that if we were to have a DM then that DM would serve our interests and it would the Dale who would fix it. It has already been argued in a couple of threads which have been archived. It was called "Why are we putting up with this" or something along those lines. Even though the blight is over we still had asked for this. As for expectations "at least let the actions of the Dale have an effect or move the plot " ((concerning the Dale) I should have added). That's mine and many other's expectation. (Not to sound demanding!) It's something to think about.. You're doing great DM'ing the Dale still

I see what you mean, I do. But the Blight wasn't a Dale plot specificly so then you suddenly have a lot more to take into account which makes considerations hard. I can tell you the Dale did influence the cure though in some way. And thank you!

The young "Pebbles" Oldfur often seen in the Hinn Inn with her uncle Fendel might be overheard jovially explaining what "actually happened" with the elections. The brilliant, playful (and maybe slightly tipsy) grin on her face as she regales the tale might be telling on its own, of course.
"Ya see, when Annalee finished countin' she couldn't believe 'er eyes! 'Pebbles', she said, 'ya ent got the mindset fer this job.' Ya see, I were the winner o' the electoral race 'cause Nof's a borin' gubber an' ya lot smartly wanted someone what knew how ter have proper fun! But Nof, he were so 'eartbroken that I took pity on 'im and declared m'self Queen o' the Dale. Gave 'im the role o' Mayor as consolation. Since I'm right generous, I am, and Queen now ter boot! Ya want some more cider there, gubber, eh?"

*Fendel, grinning widely, would inform Pebbles Rosary is already self proclaimed queen of the Dale but she is welcome to challenge Rosary to a mud flinging contest to settle the matter properly like.*

*This is a list Nof keeps on the notice board with challenges assigned to the individual conclave members*
Fellow residents of the Dale. Please do not vandalise or post on this list as it's for me to use to assign challenges to Conclave members. Conclave members ofcourse don't have to do everything in person but I would like to be informed when substantial tasks are delegated. Keep me posted so i can alter the list if need be.
-Nof
Sentinel Theadric
- Look into the land-based Squids with eggs thing. - Clear the river for Jannah's trading. - Join the war council on the Dale's behalf and learn what you can. - Keep our caravans safe.
Treasurer Jannah
- Work with Harry Baldort to asses how much we produce and how we can trade of that (Together with the Keeper once I find one!) - Monitor existing trade, ensure bargains are honoured, strike new bargains but not with those not friendly to the Dale. - Determine where friends are in need and dispatch appropriate aid. - Work with Theadric to keep caravans safe.
Keeper of the land
- Coax as much produce from the land as possible to sustain work effort. - Determine how much of our good can be traded and how much we need ourselves.
Ambassador
- Work with Theadric to establish relations with the war council - Establish relations with other cities, towns and groups, work with Jannah to establish trade if desired. - Find out what you can about potentially hostile groups such as these Thayans.

Greetings residents,
I have some ideas about our system of bannings and I want your oppinions!
I'd like to see two categories of bannings.
-Kill on sight
People on this list have killed our residents and visitors alike. These foul beings shall have no aid or mercy on our lands. Do not try to remove them from our lands as these beasts have already shown that reasoning with them is futile, avoid them, gather allies when you see them and then dispatch them preferably from an ambush and dispose of the body properly.
-Banished
These people have harmed the Dale or our interest but aren't mad killers. These persons are not welcome within our gates but can linger on our land as long as they behave themselves in accordance with our laws. People on this list can go either way depending on their behaviour. Fair amends will get them removed from the list and foul deeds will see them added to the kill on sight list. Time passed is no reason for removal from this list (Or the one above) nor is 'Not being a problem' - I want to see active fair amends!
Groups will not be added to the kill on sight list but will be added to the Banished list. Individuals may be extempted from this in a seperate list.
I am loathe to ban drow seeing the shrine to Eilistrae being ever friendly to us - what do you think? Should be ban drow and extempt the Eilistraeens individually or should be ban the non Eilistraeens?
- Nof

I decided to put my general avaideble hours here to make plotting hopefully easier.
If you need me online I generally can log on during these hours (Naturally, 'booking' time in advance means a much better chance of me not haviong planned something else. All times are in Cet (GMT +1) I prefer being contacted by PM but ingame works too.
Weekend: No set times. In principle I ussually can spare time in weekends Monday: 20.00 till 24.00 (Possibly from 18.00 onwards) Tuesday: Not avaideble ussually. Wednesday: 19.00 till 24.00 Thursday: 20.00 till 24.00 Friday: 19.00 till 24.00 (Possibly later if not sleepy)

A Note is posted below Nof's: Quote: Speaking as a guard, I like the idea that it's simpler. Your ideas of KOS vs allowed everywhere but inside our gates does exactly that. Trying to keep banned individuals off our lands as a whole is quite difficult.
As for the Drow... If we had some way to know who was Ellistrean versus the Meany Drow, that would be best, I would think. Some sort of insignia? I think this has been done in the past. If we blanket allow Drow, we may be asking for trouble, and I agree, we don't want to exclude those from the Shrine.

My main question is: Can we arrange it with the cart drivers that they not bring violent criminals into our town?
Secondarily: While I do like the Drow from the Shrine, the Drow from the Shrine are also pretty fast to admit that they do have some bad apples in their midst. Insignia are probably in order, but actually talk to the Eilistraeens about it because they will know far better than us the status of their racial politics.

Hi! I'll keep this short and sweet. @ Community This probably long over due, but I figure I may as well post it here since I was mentioned (again)! Also apologies if i'm repeating what someone else said. I only skimmed over the other posts so far! Apologies for my absence and continued absence. I'm going through a transitional stage in life right now and i'll leave it at that! But for those who know me as a player, it's probably not that uncommon given my history for the server - come in an intense wave and then suddenly vanish. That's not anyone's problem but my own, and I continue the search of inner balance / moderation. Also, maybe it's a good time for the older players to reach out to new players / players of other factions again. The reason the conclave was made was at the time there was a huge explosion in numbers for the Dale and it seemed like the best way to get a variety of people involved and be able to organize ourselves easier. Also apologies if my absence has had any negative effects on the community. I know I was a big go to go guy of getting things in motion or being a vigilante and beating up bad guys. ------------ @ Hudson - It was really nice obtaining a DM again since gothic and bilbo. I hope you continue to stay and invest into the community. It was really nice when I was keeper of the lands that my time / effort paid off and helped saved the world. BUT it also took a lot of mental energy and time to come up with that, at least for me - hahaha. It's great to get players to figure out their own way and for you to morph and be flexible to their stories. And it's also great sometimes for there to be a "choose your own adventure" pathway between 2 or 3 classic options of good/evil of a pre-determined plot-line - so that players can still choose but also not have to do as 'much' thinking. I would say try to create a bigger picture again like the blight. Purpose is good. There is also a part of apathy that has always been a part of the Dale (i.e standing around, telling stories, gossiping, talking about absolutely nothing constructive). Which really isn't a bad thing - it's just a part of who the community has always been. Bendir Dale has always been in a bubble. Think of the shire in the lord of the rings (although i'm sure a loremaster wants to punch me in the arm now). I thought events like the Circus were really great at putting this sort of laid back energy to a use of bringing the community closer. Perhaps this would be an opportunity for an NPC to join a mindless conversation and create a mindless story, that eventually leads to something bigger. haha. I think just bringing up the issue and creating awareness is a really constructive tactic to approach the subject, so kudos to you. You have a good emphasis on positive energy rolling, which is fantastic for players to feel like their making a difference. But it's okay for bad things to happen too every once in a while, especially if a bad thing eventually leads to a good thing. As for NPC leadership again - probably utilizing the Conclave or tweaking it to force a fair amount of responsibility to players is what will make people feel important / want to get involved / make a difference. It also seemed like some really solid ideas were tossed out by some of the other players in this post, so i'm sure by listening/working with the players your in charge of - it'll lead to tremendous amounts of fun for everyone. After all, thats why we are all here. ----- @ Elyon - Rosary does her job well. The job of lifting spirits and just being silly and nieve without actually trying - the Dale wouldn't be nearly as much fun if we were all work and no fun. She's a reminder of the embodiment of Brandobaris without even being a religious or traditional or zealous type. The character's a lot of fun and don't ever feel you have to change her / the way you play the game. After all, the game is here for YOUR enjoyment! ---- Anyways I lied! It really wasn't that short of the post. This is just my completely biased perspective and I hope a great deal of fun continues to be had in Bendir Dale. For right now i'm going to remain MIA, so no hard feelings if my post is viewed as completely bonkers / way out there since I haven't been around for some weeks. People always find their way back to Amia though it seems, so no one should be concerned ...

I found this a rather difficult question. One the one hand because I rather like a mix of things both on the action vs text axis as the positive vs negative outcome one. A little diversity in the plots and the in game appearances is always nice. On the other hand I have little expectations since I do not have a vast experience, in my opinion, with participating in DM plots. Since my gaming presence sometimes varies from very active to periods of absence, I tend to stay away from large plots with my characters as not to leave others pending. I've noticed I have done this in the past when more active in a faction and this was rather disheartening for other players. This is also in a way why I enjoy playing Allia at this very moment. Due to her visual condition she is very limited in her day to day activities. Allowing me to make sure she remains a very local character. Her daily activities are usually the same and she has no combat experience whatsoever. Both make that she is more inclined to stay in place and engage in casual roleplay. I noticed this is the kind of rp I as a player enjoy most after a day of work. All this just to say I'm not sure what I want but I enjoy the casual things. Which I believe as was said before is often the case for Bendir players. They like the relaxed sometimes silly nature. Which in itself does not mean there shouldn't be any upheaval. Some positive things off what I've seen personally. First of all I believe the attention given to the Dale has really added to the depth of the area. Things like the different clans posted on the Dale and most of all their appearance in game. And even the little details like Kasselworth Cappelcyll having some racial prejudice versus Kurchin at the town meeting. Added to that is a regular appearance in game with the different Bendir npc which makes the community seem more alive. I also think Nof as a mayor will not have such a big impact on the progression of Bendir. Nof is more relaxed in nature and prefers to let others come with ideas and initiatives which he'll support. The continued form of the conclave is rather in line with this notion. Given the IG climate of the isle I rather support an npc mayor. There are larger plots that will have an impact on Bendir where decisions have to be made. In absence of a council or active town meeting an npc mayor can make decisions and as such the storyline advances. Otherwise the Dale remains ever the same. What the Dale needs as a community is a common goal or a village sized story arch. The general war theme is nice and absolutely interesting but it should be translated to Bendir's level. Pe: Have the guards detail the weak spots in the Bendir defense and work from this to bolster the defenses. We could ask the shrine drow/war knights/insert faction to organise a mock raid/invasion on the Dale to see how well we could defend it. This would be a very active event, with lots of player involvement which hopefully will make the need for preparing for the war very real. I'd also like to see more events/activities around being a hin. I'm not very knowledgeable about halfling lore and would love to see some things organised that explore this. Be it by players or otherwise. Perhaps have a wedding or a death and see the associated rituals. Small signs of the gods (I'm not sure how active they are in FR tbh so this might be out of line) that approve or reprimand certain hin actions. Things like that. They needn't be long, they could take an hour tops but still be a memorable halfling moment.

Cart drivers aren't stationed inside town limits Jannah so that's not a problem. I wouldnt ask of the lads not to take a phychopat along because cart drivers can be stabbed too so best to keep them out of town. Still want a watchover overseeing that bit of road though.
Triel wanted to talk with me so I can discuss the drow matter with her then as well.

~From a new Citizen: Jamian Turin Would it be stretching the resources of the Dale terribly much to establish a guard on the area? We could potentially also establish a wayhouse proper there. After all, the place is the heart of trade on the island, with most of the cart roads leading there eventually. Surely it wouldn't be amiss to establish a tighter guard on such an important location? If the militia could not be placed in that location, potentially other forms of guard can be established?

We have two guards directly behind there, presumably to prevent troll invasion. I'd think a guard right near the carts is a nice idea, however OOC'ly, people tend to ignore them. When Max is on duty, he's normally near that area.
// Edited to be IC! Sorry!
We already have two guards not far from the carts, and while I do think another would be helpful, I'm not sure it would make much difference as people don't really listen to the guards much now. I try to stay near that area whenever I can.

I personally feel with the way things go outside our gates, we need a guard on each side of the carts, another at the gate, two more at the gate on the bridge, and possibly another that paces from the carts to the gates. It's very insecure given the number of reports I've seen and written about violence in that area.
That said, I don't really expect that to happen, but... it's a realistic response to a problem we have.
The rules Nof put forth make sense to me.

There might also be a manpower shortage in this too. I mean, we don't HAVE a lot of people... as soon as Jamian hits 14 he'll be able to help fix the man power shortage enormously, but until then...

Lads. We don't have nearly as many men as we'd like. We have two people guarding the immediate threat of the trolls. There's a road warden by the carts watching for dangers. These troops are based outside of the wall at risk. I don't want us risking more men to stop people getting whacked outside the gates when they're perfectly welcome inside where they can be protected. We need to stop concerning ourselves with the outside of the walls unless there's a true problem and not the occasional fight. Someone wants safety. Come inside. You want to be at risk, be our guest and don't enjoy the fine niceties of our home. We cannot be blamed for things that happen outside our walls and we have no involvement in. Enter the walls: Safety. Stay outside: Risk. Simple, really.

He makes it sound so simple..... Though, he's right, we do put too much emphasis on the outer portion of our lands, when we really need to worry about inside the gates.

What the sentinel said really. We have about twenty five guards and I refuse to station two near the carts or anymore outside the gates at all. Instead I want a watchtower overlooking the carts filled with some slingers inside the walls.
We cannot guard the whole dale constantly hence we focus on the town itsself. If we get more guards trained then things may change but right now we simply lack the manpower.

Ladies, gentlemen, adventurers seeking glory!
I call for your aid in vanquishing a threat! The water trolls that plague the area of Bendir Bay, the swamp at its south, and the Tall Tree beach a little further on!
The area is infested with these large creatures and polluted with walking corpses! Any interested in the following are welcome: Profit? Purging of the undead? A decimation of danger? Glory?! Please contact me at Bendir Dale Town Hall. Theadric Shortwick. I'll be leading an expedition out that way to clear them out. When numbers are acquired, I'll be giving tips to those that would wish them.
If sought, you'll be paid by myself personally a sum of 7500 gold peices, as well as an even share of the loot!
We won't be doing this expedition if we're with out at least two holy clerics to help deal with the dead.
Please be in touch.
-Theadric Shortwick, Vigilant Sentinel.

Good Sir Shortwick,
Though I have never ventured to this bay that you speak of, my skills shall be at your disposal should you need them. By Kelemvor's word I shall aid in the destruction of the accursed undead. I can be reached at the Nomad Inn within Cordor.
May you see many suns before your sunset, Gerald WallaceAt the bottom the seal of Kelemvor is burned into the parchment.// All shall depend on if I can be around when this goes on

What Theadric said holds true, though there are residences and the fields (orchard), outside the gate. We want to make sure the families that are simply doing their job, are safe doing it. ~~Crow

I would not turn down an opportunity to come along if you would have me. My blade is particularly effective against the risen dead and I would appreciate a chance to test it in a real combat situation.

Put a good shot with a crossbow on the northeast corner of the wall. Make sure he has enough food and drink to keep him awake. Nothing like a bolt out of the blue to give folks time to run for the walls.

You know, it might just be that we need to increase the numbers of militia members. Mandatory enlistment. There's a war on, and it's a horrid measure, but there's not a member of the dale I've seen who can't use a sling well enough to peg crows out of their fields, so there you go. The trained fighters could be stations in less secure locations with rotating militia members drawn from the general populous to man the walls.
If this is unacceptable, then I'm not sure what else can be done.

By my accounts, we have the materials for the tower from the trade deal with Guldorand. Question is if we have any tower makers in the dale itself, or if I need to outsource to somewhere else.

I don't know if we have any gifted engineers in the Dale. But that's for another topic as that has little to do with banning.
