Hi. I'm an old new guy and these are my questions.

1. I've noticed a couple casters that have short-range teleporting spells. Before I left the server like...4 years ago.. we were always told that Teleport spells were a no-no. Has this changed?

2. What do Ioun stones do and why the hell are they so expensive? I know this is kind of an IC thing, but it's driving me crazy. I know they give +2 to an ability depending on the color of the stone, but.. is that all? Do they avoid the normal +12 Ability cap from gear and allow you to get it up to +14 for one ability? Do they shoot rainbows through the souls of your enemies?

3. I had a DC item made way back in 2008. The original plan for the item was for it to have the Daze effect on people on a failed a save but Iron told me that would cost ALL the DCs(10 more than I had), so I opted to take the same item minus the Daze effect. So.. right now it's an RP tool. Is there any way to change that? As in.. Add to a DC item that's already been made?

4. Is Epic Spell Penetration necessary on a level 30 pure sorc? I'm awful with builds. I took it because it looked important at the time, but it seems like most Monks resist the spells anyway. Seems like a waste of feats.

5. The idea was shot down pretty quickly and I wasn't given much time to ask questions the last time I asked...so.. I'll ask here. Dragon breath stone! I want mine back. They weren't much use to anyone in PVP or PVM(especially for someone who plays a squishy Sorc with like 20 AC fully buffed), but they were really cool toys in RP.

I know they were stripped from the server by a script like 5 years ago.. but that was 5 years ago. The server has gone through a lot of balance changes since then. Is there any chance that a request for an item that casts dragonbreath x times per day gets approved?

I know the property is on a few items in the loot bin, so I can't figure out why it's such a big deal to have it put on an item as a DC request.

That's all I have for now. Thanks!

EDIT: Typos!

1) wat, maybe it was Shadow Jump (Shadowdancer ability)?

2) They give a bonus depending on what they are (+ something to an ability or regen or saves or ac, etc). They do not let you go over the +12 ability cap, they can be useful for gear setting, though, as like a +2 str one will let you have less str on your other gear in order to hit the +12 cap.

3) idk

4) Most say not really. Most it's handy for is against SR Monks and Drow and people with the SR spell from high-level clerics.

5) lolidk

1. I can only think of one spell effect that could be considered teleportation that is currently out there, besides Flight and Shadowjump. The last I heard was that they can be requested now, but they are one of those things very rarely allowed. As most of the old iron-clad no-no's regarding abilities should be in the first place, but that is another conversation.

2. Iouns either give +2 to a particular stat or some other effect, like +2 regeneration, +1 Dodge/Other AC, or +1 to all saves. The stat ones are significant because it allows you an extra 2 to a stat without taking up two power slots on your equipment. Basically a free or extra item. This stacks with things like the Animal Spells, so they are very helpful for most builds, because they are just an extra boost. Why they are expensive is due to the player economy.

3. That is up to the current team. I would personally suggest making a new request, rather than banking on anything previously approved. Things tend to be forgotten and/or re-interpreted.

4. That's something to ask in the build topic. http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=59938&start=8200

5. I doubt those exist in the module any more, but there are a few items that could be used to simulate the same effect. A few have dragon breath powers per use or per day. If that doesn't work for you, you could always make a custom item request.

Welcome back.

Edit: Naiv, stop being a ninja.

1. I'm about 99% sure they were spells that did the teleporting. Unless I was fantasizing about the Teleport spell I always dreamed of being a reality.. which could also have happened. Pretty sure it wasn't Shadowjump because the visual was different.

2. Thanks for the clarification about the ioun stones!

3. DM Team...Halp?

4. Much too lazy at the moment, but will probably get around to posting in the build topic later.

5. I'd be open to just making a custom item request if the actual stone things aren't available. I'd just prefer those items if they're still around because it saves time on scripting and it doesn't make a lot of sense to make a request to have a custom item scripted when a clone already exists. I'm just trying to figure out if a request like that could ever get through. I asked a month or so ago, but was shot down really quickly and the thread was locked before I could ask questions or clarify things.

1) no teleports have been approved. Those are still a "no". I can think of 1 custom feat that offers a short range roll and that's it.

5) you were told no on the original thread then you were told no in PMs and now you're expecting a different answer...

I'm not expecting a different answer on the dragonbreath stone thing. I'm just asking for clarification. You were pretty short in the PMs that you responded to and in the response on the forums(which was locked before I could respond or clarify things), so I never had a chance to ask more questions there.

So.. I figured I'd ask here about the dragon breath in general. Is that property just always a no-no on DC items? If so.. Why? It's available on items in-game and it's not all that useful. Especially when compared to really powerful custom spells or items that have been approved or are being considered(like Frugdar's beefy greatsword with +5, Keen,+2d6 massive critical,+2d6 piercing damage, and flame weapon x per day)

It just seems a little strange that the dragon breath property would be shot down so quickly and without any discussion, so...yar.

I can't speak for other DMs on this, but my own personal reason for having said no in the discussion we had, is because it makes no sense to me lore-wise to have an item (short of Artifact potency perhaps) grant a creature that does not have the anatomy to produce a breath weapon, the ability to produce one. It just doesn't jive, at all.

A popular item ingame is a potion that, according to its description, you drink and then think about a particular dragon type. When you spit it out, the potion becomes that particular form of dragon breath.

Another dragon breath item is a shield and the other is a sword. A magic rock that lets you breathe fire isn't that far-fetched, comparatively. //0.02ยข

Then in my opinion those too should be removed or rather replaced with Cone effects rather than Breath effects.

Update Bump!

Okay. So I've learned that Ioun stones are overpriced buffs, I wasted about 5 feats rebuilding Krin 5 years ago, and I'll probably never get a dragon breath item request through Glim. I need to remember to ask the person who plays the character I saw teleporting..or shadowjumping.. because it seems my Teleport Spell fantasies got the better of me.

Anyone know how this one is handled?

I don't want to waste a spot in the Request thread if it's going to be immediately shot down and locked up. Has anyone seen changes made to DC items in the past? Do I just pay for the additional effect? Will a whole new item need to be requested?

Honestly, the only advice I can give is to make the request and see what happens. Don't ask us what the DM Team wants or doesn't want. Ask them! In your request. And sell it.

I will eventually. I'm just hoping that there's a precedent set somewhere that I don't know about.

Even if there is, though, everything is case-by-case. What might not work for one person's old DC item might work for another's!
