On an epic fail for the save, creatures now automatically die. Noticed it after this last save/reset. It was never like that before. But I like it this way. At least it's like it's supposed to be 5% of the time.

I figured it was some oversight, but my dick got hard regardless.

Hopefully this is unrelated to killing people with dev crit.

Whether it kills or knocks them for 2 full rounds and leave them with blindness and flatfooted - result is the same to be honest...

Eh, it's more or less a very expensive KD.

*Quaffs a remove blindness pot.*

Yeah. It's nice for monsters (since most of them don't blind-fight or have an equivalent to stop it), and somewhat against casters, but the prevalence of blind-fight amongst the player base still leaves it with something to be desired. The epic fail chance of instant death would have been nice.

I think this would be a good thing. If something rolls 1 against Devastating Critical, let them die. Otherwise, the usual blinding and knocking down effects. Epic Dodge is still far superior for melee fighters.

Its not up for discussion. A whole lot of thought has already gone into its current mechanics, don't worry about it.

Nah, instant death is unfun and dull.

Previously in another thread, I posted what I thought were 2 decent ideas that would beef it up a bit to make it seem to be worth all those feats and not just an overpriced nuisance.

1. If possible, have Dev Crit allow criticals to occur on non-crittable opponents, or at the very least allow it to apply the DC effects to non-crittable targets (KD, blindness, etc).

2. Allow DC to flat out add bonus damage equal the character's STR mod * (weapon crit modifier -1). That is, a scimitar user with 38 Str gets +14 damage. That same character wielding a greataxe gets a flat +42 bonus damage, making the feat actually "devastating."

Sadly, True Seeing being so available in the mod (and popped before PvP) and access to custom gear alterations for saves usually means dev crit is a hail Mary pass the does very little even if caught in the endzone. Not to mention almost every endgame mobile shrugs fort saves off with ease. That's pretty "meh" for 6 feats.

I don't much like rolling a 1 and being totally screwed either. But epic failing a dev-crit save and actually dying doesn't really seem too terribly unbalancing in light of how many feats it takes to get.
