Hey, it's Amia! A cute anime Yuan-Ti would be considered plausible compared to some of the previous things we've had before.

Does Amia need more anime characters? We have enough people speaking Japanese in the FR setting as it is. :/

Nah, the first drawing is definetly that of a yuan-ti halfblood. Far too many dominant yuan-ti characteristics to fall into the pureblood category. The picture posted by dead is a yuan-ti abomination anathema. This would be on the line of a pureblood:

Image

Besides that, the drawing is really nice. I just am not the greatest fan of the manga style.

As for requesting a yuan-ti character, it is very much possible. A former player (my sister) requested and played a yuan-ti pureblood and I have one in my vault myself. The Serpent Kingdoms is a great book for lore. The House of Serpents novels, I believe Venom's Taste is the first book of the series, also focuses on yuan-ti. I used the series myself for inspiration, and it also covers (in the last book, I think) a good aligned yuan-ti community.

I take offense in that.. look up Kozakura if you don't think it works within the realm of Forgotten Realms.

If you're still not convinced, then you'll have to wonder just why there are stuff like katanas, shurikens, etc. (there even are Amia-only items with Japanese names).
----

And I'll side with Pony on that Yuan-ti pic - it is a Yuan-ti.. however, I'll ask you "why not make a dwarf?" or one of the races that aren't as represented / would love to have more players playing them rather than create such a character as a Yuan-ti?

PS: That drawing is amazing

Don't take it personally, I mean I'm not looking to upset anyone. It's my opinion that anime/Japanese heavy things aren't appropriate in FR. Certainly, there are Chinese and Japanese themes like Kozakurans and Shou within the FR world, and you might see weapons which in our world originated from these cultures, but it has already been accounted for within FR. I'm not contesting the fact that Kozakura is a part of the FR world. I'm contesting the use of actual Japanese. Or anime characters which are appropriated and used on Amia.

Looking at it from another side: How would you feel if you saw a character speaking Italian in this game?

if memory serves, Kozakura and Wa are both nations inspired by feudal Japan, just at different periods in the history.

Although i am surprised by how many have traveled to the opposite side of the world and reside on Amia....

Sorry to get off topic. I did like the picture a lot.

As Phearnun said, Yuan-ti, both pure and half I believe, have been accepted in the past so with a good backstory and reasoning it's doable!

As I'm sure most will warn you though, monsterous races are a bitch to play but are generally well done if played right!

If it is something you feel you would enjoy, go for it. Certainly has not been overdone on Amia. I also do not think they would be too rare, given there are quite a few of them in the region already.

As a clarification, only purebloods have been requested so far. The elven and human phenotype works well for those. Halfbloods could be requested as well, imo, but the only thing you can do to properly emulate them is the full scaled body + forked tongue + slitted eyes that some of them have. The nwn yuan-ti monster models fit that well enough. While many half-bloods would have their lower body be a serpent tail, or have a serpentine head, NWN simply is too limited in content for that.

I had no base dream coin costs, as I used the elven model for my pureblood character.

I however did purchase a polymorph item for the cobra model, which I play as a viper. Yuan-ti purebloods have the ability to transform into a viper since birth. I think so do half-bloods and abominations, but that I would need to look up. If danger presents itself after they hatched, the young yuan-ti slither into the cracks and tiny tunnels in the room for protection. I paid 10 Dream Coins for that, but I believe the cost has since has been lowered to 5 Dream Coins.

If you go half-blood, you might need to pay 5 Dream Coins for a perma skin-change into the yuan-ti model, and could pay an extra 5 Dream Coins for a snake poly item. That is, if half-bloods have the same ability to do so as purebloods do, which I am almost certain they have.

If you get your request approved for the yuan-ti, you can have two dream coins from me for the poly item. Yuan-ti are awesome. Same goes for any other player who gets one approved.

Sure, you can toss it my way. I wont have access to my notes and materials until I got my laptop repaired, but I can give you my first impression and thoughts, and then give you proper feedback when I got them again.

Haha, thanks for inspiring Eurgiga. I poked her about a yuan-ti head before! :D

And great work! Once I got my laptop repaired, I am going to see to finishing up that head update.

Actually, Eurgiga! Would it be possible to make two proper snake heads (one male, one female - basically one head)? Those would be terrific for yuan-ti halfbloods in the Quagmires! Basically, just like what the yuan-ti in the picture of the third post has. :D

Eurgiga will you still submit the heads you made? I think a lot of people loved them (me too) would be a grat addition if you'd be willing to let them be added to the mod.

As for the DC pricing:

Head change = free
Leto Legs = free
Tail = 10 DC
Full Skin Change: 5 DC

A monster race by default, if approved does not cost DC. Only any additions which may be required to make the chara look like you want if that cannot be done with what we provide by default, or if you need any widgets to emulate any skills they may have (for example a lycan and a widget to shift to hybdrid or animal form) cost DC.

So if you go the default NWN model you'd be stuck with a total cost of 5 DC. However, while still can equip custom armor, helmet etc. of course, it would not show on the model and your chara would always look the same.

Leto Legs + a Tail (likely the dragon tail in this case) would be 10 DC total.

I personally am not sure if I would recommend you the legs. They look very dragon-ish and hance far too bulky for a yuan-ti imho. But that is just my personal opinion and depends on your personal liking. If you go the legs and tail your character would look more draconic than snakey.

Pony has everything I've done so far. What I'd need before they go in is which heads you want to be available on which races so I can make any race-specialized versions. However, we should probably go over anything about doing that in PMs or something, we're spamming up the topic with off-topic stuff. :D

Hey, how about a good-looking hobgoblin head? I mean, if you have time and inclination and whatnot. It's kind of a shame that Amia has hobbo as a playable race, but nobody ever plays it because the default models are so awful to have to look at.

Edit: Grr, sorry, I thought I was posting in Eurgiga's heads thread. Didn't mean to hijack this one. :)

it was not shot down. We pointed out errors we saw. That purebloods do not have that many serpent traits was already mentioned in this thread.

Yuan-ti differ wildly every time I see them. From now on and forever, whoever plays a Yuan-ti will be seen only one way in my eyes.
