To whom it may concern, and most notably addressed to the mindless hordes that seek us harm,

We at Dagger's Double do not enjoy having to defend our assets and lives so heavily to such an extent that sections of the woods, and our property, is harmed. We would rather not have to slay a small army of fifteen to twenty people at once given an average of three members are present at sites. -and while our people may be able to take you on five to one and still win, we would rather you cease trying to murder our personnel for the 'crime' of placing up wooden signs in the woods, or the 'crime' of buying and selling wares with travelers. Are you really fighting to the death to stop us from trading freely? What about the witch who lives in the hut, clearly selling wares in the woods, or the gnome in the cave, another 'mercantile' offender.

We believe in the principle of free trade, not tyrannical edicts from an Archdruid of a non-existent grove gone mad. Also important to note, it seems as of to date, not a single druid has physically stood against us, merely one ranger 'captain'. Captain of what, I ask.

In an effort to dispel any lingering rumors, it's hard to be a 'bandit' when no one is robbed, and hard to be a 'slaver' when no slaves are taken. Such are the lies and murmurings of individuals who seek to convince others to foolishly act for them. You are being misled and used with such, so allow me to set the record straight on company position.

The million gold cost was, as per my previous letter, to allow Crow to once more do business with our trading company as a result of his attacks on our personnel he has been barred. Such was never applied to his corpse, as evident as he still yet is free and walks not in our possession. A property damage fine of a mere ten-thousand coin was placed to release the bodies of those who sought us harm, such was willingly paid and the bodies released accordingly. For the small minded, I shall spell it out; willing business contracts, are not robbery. No one was taken as a slave, and therefore no slave is made. Basic, simple to understand.

Trade as Thou Wilt is our motto, and we stand by it, and we shall not hold back in these principles. We shall not fear having force used against us for the 'crime' of trade in a supposedly wild woodland.

To the horde, you can be defeated, you have been defeated, and you shall yet be defeated more. I advise you to cease attacking us so we can cease being forced to act in self-defense.

-Azu

You are a bunch of fucking cowards. You fled, after a barrage of magic, and took the time to rest and prepare your spells a second time only to return back and unleash yet another onslaught of magic only to flee again, in order to recuperate your spells again before being caught unprepared and fleeing into the Shadowscape. How about you fight like real men next time?

At Kampo's..

Far too long have the "righteous" tyrants ruled with an iron fist, spreading false propaganda and lies about
free merchants, banding up like a bunch of hyenas and killing in cold blood those who would raise a voice
of sanity against them. They claim to be keepers of the wild, yet they are imposing a LAW in the forest.
This forest is not their property, no matter what they say. If you want another supporter of your cause,
leave a message at Kampo's Storesite or Trade Hall of Tarkuul.

A tall lean elven woman looks over the notice. Any observing her would automatically consider her one of the wood, though rarely seen. She reads carefully over the old notes on this topic, taking all with a grain of salt, as it were. Barely clothed and with a large sleek panther at her side, she moves from the board and back toward the forest. She surveys any damage and repairs what she is able, then makes 'camp' herself to wait for the 'offenders'.

After a time of seeing only a few travelers, she returns to the board and pens a reply. The lettering is elegantly scripted in espruar runes, flowing in a golden ink upon greyed parchment that looks like worn worked bark of some kind.

Quote:
Gentlemen traders.

I am a keeper of the wilds. Though my views may differ greatly from those you have previously encountered. I would like the chance to converse with each of you, together or separately. Perhaps some compromise can be met and all live on in peace as the forest provides. Please leave word for me if I do not encounter you first, here at Kampo's. I look forward to this meeting.

Isys

A reply is posted in Tarkuul, it bears no signature but bears the seal of the Living Guard:

Quote:
Tarkuul has upheld its neutrality in regards to your organisation; No official of the city has to our knowledge willingly disrupted your trade nor revealed any information we know of your organisation. However you should be aware of your own reputation by now and take it into consideration should you operate your business within the Living City. Know that if your operations at market are deemed to be inciting violence within the Living City you will be asked to immediately halt all activity, and shut down your trading within the city for the day by members of either the Living Guard or the Sentinels: This request will be made for your own safety, and the safety of the denizens of the Enclave of Tarkuul.

Noncompliance with this request will result in your forfeiting your protection under the Nine Laws in compliance with the following Laws of Tarkuul: The Fourth Law (Disruptive Behaviour); the Seventh Law (Disobeying members of the Guard); the Ninth Law (Noncompliance with the Nine Laws); potentially the Third Law (Harming another being within the city) should any violence continue; and potentially the Second Law (Abuse of Tarkuul's neutrality) should you be deemed to be abusing the City's hospitality or disrupting the Enclave of Tarkuul's neutrality.

However, the Nine Laws apply to all within the grace of Tarkuul: Any attacking you for your trade activities will forfeit their protection under the Nine Laws in compliance with the First Law (Impeding another's path to knowledge); the Third Law (Harming another being within the Living City); the Fourth Law (Aggressive/Disruptive Behavior); the Seventh Law (Disobeying members of the Guard), should their attacks be ordered to cease yet continue regardless; the Ninth Law (Noncompliance with the Nine Laws); and potentially the Second Law (Abuse of Tarkuul's neutrality) should they be deemed to be abusing the City's hospitality or disrupting the Enclave of Tarkuul's neutrality.

The Nine Laws do not forbid your trading activities, they forbid any violence you might incite with them. Should others be deemed to have attacked you unprovoked, your company has the protection of our laws and Guardsmen. Should you wish to claim that this warning, or any subsequent enforcement of Tarkuul's laws within Tarkuul's sovereignty is an act of tyranny and disruptive of any perceived right to free trade, remember: These are the laws of Tarkuul.

Beyond that: Trade as thou wilt.

*appended to the above on a large rough hand*

I share, in part, the views of this person and would meet you to hear your telling of the tale. The Grove doesn't speak for every forest denizen or protector.

from trading freely? What about the witch who lives in the hut, clearly selling wares in the woods, or the gnome in the cave, another 'mercantile' offender.

Those merchants fallow laws and are in designated places of sale.

We believe in the principle of free trade, not tyrannical edicts from an Archdruid of a non-existent grove gone mad. Also important to note, it seems as of to date, not a single druid has physically stood against us, merely one ranger 'captain'. Captain of what, I ask.

Ranger captain of the grove, defender of the forest, and honorary dale militia. In case you needed to be aware.

Again I am forced to do more teaching, Lets start with bandit. An outlaw; a gangster.
One who cheats or exploits others.
Next slaver, A person who holds one against there will or claims ownership of another s person.Oh like holding peoples thats pretty much claiming ownership.

The million gold cost was, as per my previous letter, to allow Crow to once more do business with our trading company as a result of his attacks on our personnel he has been barred. Such was never applied to his corpse, as evident as he still yet is free and walks not in our possession. Proves the slaver point.

Trade as Thou Wilt is our motto, and we stand by it, and we shall not hold back in these principles. We shall not fear having force used against us for the'crime' of tradein a supposedly wild woodland.

Again the crime of killing travelers and forest defenders.

To the horde, you can be defeated, you have been defeated, and you shall yet be defeated more. I advise you to cease attacking us so we can cease being forced to act in self-defense.

To you Azu you will be defeated the goodly folk where over confident in the first try. But know that evil tyrants of trade have been here before do you see them now?

-Azu

*A hin can be seen reading it the coming back with a notice*

I know its hard to imagine a trader being honest so I have helped you be.

P.S. It was grand that you brought to life the realization that you are necromancers with the mummy that was summoned.

Greetings members of the Living Guard,

We have considered your letter and find that it is agreeable. Your guards may, request for us to close shops for the day if it looks like tensions become hostile toward us while in your city. -but if we are attacked, I wanted to reiterate that the nine laws would not protect individuals attacking us and that they would forfeit protection under the law, and we may retaliate in self-defense.

That being said, once more, we shall honor your request for us to close shop for the day if one of the living guard, or a high ranking representative of Tarkuul, asks as a result of hostile tensions forming against us while in Tarkuul.

In the interest of keeping a peaceful and profitable trade environment,

Trade as Thou Wilt,

-Azu

~ Responded in Tarkuul ~

====================================================================

THE THIRD LAW:

None shall do harm to another being or to the Living City's property within Tarkuul, except
when acting in self defense or in defense of the Living City. Any physical conflicts outside
the Living City's portals or within the Arena are not subject to this Law.

====================================================================

You need not to reiterate the Laws of the Living City. Very foundations of our society
dwell upon these Laws and breaking them is foolhardy. The Sentinels or the Living Guard
are extremely fast to respond, regardless of your location. Acting in self-defense in the
Living City is permitted, though often rather unnecessary, since Tarkuul's crime rate is
virtually nonexistent.
