When making a mage character, why should anyone choose anything but generalist? Does picking anything else do something beyond restricting your spells? I never understood this.
I would do it only for RP and future DC requests like custom spells. It seems to have no mechanical advantage, in fact its a mechanical disadvantage.
You also get one more spell per day, that's it.

It has an obvious mechanical advantage, and a nice one at that. Spellslots are precious. It just doesn't really make up for the disadvantage. I would say it also forces you to think outside the box and resort to spells that wouldn't otherwise see so much use, which can be a benefit if you deliberately want to portray a certain style. Arguably, that's more of an RP benefit, but on the other hand there's really no disadvantage to losing the kind of spells your character would never use in the first place.

The problem is not that you cannot cast the spells that are forbidden, it also bars you from all the scrolls and the like, which is a bit ridiculous.
"Scrolls and the like" being just scrolls. Wands, potions and items work just fine. Yeah it's a little inconvenient, but there are plenty of concepts that have no business casting spells from all schools anyway. I would never recommend it on a mechanical basis alone, but it need not cripple you much if it fits your concept. Or rather: if your concept involves never using Illusion anyway, like a stubbornly truthful servant of Savras, you will benefit from the extra spell slots at no cost.
Besides, not being able to raise someone because Conjuration is your opposed school is hilarious.

You tell me. Certain wizard which I used to hunt a lot all along this year couldn't raise me. I cannot even number the times he had to run away to get help when I happened to roll a casual 1 with the beholders and etceteras.
I don't get why some schools aren't even blocked as well. It seems it was randomly picked what schools block what, considering some are always available.

Because some schools are so bad that folk would take them for the extra spell use and essentially lose nothing. Pretty sure that is why Mass Haste is a divination spell to! Because of the way it works we also can't nominate our opposing spell schools (and I don't think it's even possible to HAK update that or do some chicanery with nwnx).
This is how I would fix it. (and it can be fixed in this manner from what I remember)
Enchantment vs Necromancy Divination vs Illusion Conjuration vs Abjuration Evocation vs Transmutation
But I would only do that if we tossed in a whole heap more "spells" into the weaker schools (divination, transmutation, abjuration and arguably illusion)

I always found it weird that the Mass versions of some spells were different schools.

What's most distinguishing about Fighter (and sadly there really isn't much distinguishing about them, period) is that the class is based upon the notion of "training". Whether self-taught, schooled or mentored. They're really good at... well, fighting. Swinging weapons.
Barbarians have a bit more flavour. And while they are certainly trained, the class isn't about training. It's about the concept of the wild man, unfettered by the trappings and sensibilities of civilisation. They gain strength from casting aside their humanity and EATING THE FACES OFF THEIR BLEATING FOES AND WIPING THEIR ARSES WITH THE SKINLESS FOREHEADS. And they are also masters of the wild, skilled in hunting, living it rough, in many ways ranger-lite in regards to the nomadic life.
But that's just the gist of it. There are more specifics the more you venture into particular barbaric societies in the Forgotten Realms, or even subcultures within societies - dwarven battle-ragers or any society with berserker warriors (like Rashemen) are often represented with barbarian. Among the weirder races there are probably some interesting examples. Some barbarians are lone survivors of ruined kingdoms, apparently, typically where dwarfbarbs are concerned.
Oh, Iron will probably tell you (if I recall correctly - I should probably be banned for putting words into other peoples' mouths, forever) that the above is just the fantasy trope of the barbarian, since of course real barbarians were typically strictly lawful and often superstitious folks, if perhaps primitive (and that's if you're not going by the Roman definition of barbarian, anyone with a beard anyone who wasn't Roman). But the class requirement is still non-lawful.
Think Conan when you think of a barbarian if you read the books (NOT the comics).
Howard had a very nice way of describing them (imho). Basicly to them a harsh life with death at every corner if one made mistakes wasn't a choice or profession or something you'd train for to them. It was their natural state of life drilled into them by generations of hardships.

Lot's of what serby said. Fighter is a lot like rogue in that they are very bleh/straightforward in terms of the class. Very generic and unspecial in terms of what they are. That doesn't mean you can't make an interesting fighter or rogue, just that the classes themselves are not interesting. Barbarian definitely has gobs of interestingness, if only because they are more specialized whereas a Fighter can be just about anyone.

I just wondered whether people actually like, look at/visit the locations they post all their notifications on the PC noticeboards? Personally I've had Jys stare at/place items on the forums whilst being in that location on IG, and generally emote what she's doing as I post it.
I also wondered if there was a staff position on this, whether they acknowledge that the noticeboards are more for convenience and cross-timezone discussion or whether they should also be potential starters of RP IG as well?

No 'stance' far as I have heard, but I believe it's both. They are there to be the tie-in to the forums but people are welcome to use them for IG RP. I imagine that's part of the reason they were put it.
I also believe some people do that as well, just not required or anything.

Are the Difficulty Checks for the Shadow Conjuration spell line made with Illusion spell focii, or with those of the school of the emulated spell? (E.g: Evocation for Shades: Fireball)

... Ice's response cracked me up, and he's right - the whole "point" of the rogue is that they're the curveball-throwing, indefinably eclectic individuals ranging from precise specialists of a single key skill to jacks-of-all-trades. Combat might be the meat of roleplaying games such as these but the world turns on skill checks, and rogues are THE skills class. They're comparable to Fighter only in that you're not straightjacketed like other classes into specific cultures or activities in order to make full use of the abilities on the character sheet (compare: bards have to be performers/scholars, barbarians have to be unshaven, paladins have to be holy). The similarities end there. The fighter specialises in the combat (and happens to be shit at it, by-the-numbers) and the rogue deals with everything else that's not magic AND some of the things which are AND they are still okay in combat.
Fortunately there is always multiclassing, and the server culture in general still respects the guys who move efficiently-designed metal in creative ways.
My character made it to level nine dragon disciple (Yay me). So according to the official lore he gets either wings, a horn, or a tail, however it is not added to him just yet. Also according to the rules I should not RP something that is not on my character's paperdoll.
My question is should I hold off on RPing until it is added (people are going to notice the difference in him having wings and react differently). Is it okay just to say I have the wings? Or should I simply just sit and wait until they are added.
Ooooooh, we have a whole tread for those little things, but to answer your question, you can't RP some things such as wings if those aren't there, in the model, but as well you can RP the scales, claws, draconic aspects. The hints, in other words. To flatten the ground for future RP.

Thanks, cause Ice apparently doesn't understand logic.
Ice: I was comparing them from a lore perspective, herp derp. Cause, you know, that's what was being spoken about. Never mentioned mechanics or anything at all. They are flavorless classes (which is what I said), however you can make flavorful characters with said classes. Because when you break it down, that's exactly what they are: bleh and straightfoward with no real lore-ish background unlike barbarian/bard/wizard/etc.

Oooooooh I mentioned the rules in my initial post as well [url=http://amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=69066]. There is also a thread which at level 9 states I have the wings at level 9. To get the wings a DM has to be on and they have lives outside the game so they won't always be on.
In game some players said do it if it is something a DM says you have, but I figured I'd try to find out if it is.

It's monday, so I am going to be soft on you:
I am not talking about mechanics, but mechanics are what at end of counts define what a class is. If you want to twist it to say that the base classes, such as the fighter, simply have no lore behind, you may be right as well! But we can do the bloody same about every class when forced.
After all, that is what a class is. A class. An archetype that embodies a group of skills. The fighter is a fighter. The barbarian is a barbarian. The rogue is a rogue. Get what I say?
Reason for me asking a lot about fightersVs barbarians is that Im seriously considering rebuilding one of my prime characters from a generic fighter into a barbarian: because his evolution have stagnated. I want to make use of his "Inner fire" and let it burst out like a firestorm;Consuming everything in his path.
Otherwise he'll just be an angry temperamental guy with an affinity for combat.. woo..

Uhh... that's weird because the wings should be added by NWN at DD level 9 o_o I know the last DD I made got them, they were just red and a DM had to change the color. SO if you are 9 DD and don't have them... something is messed up.
Generally with DD levels DM's only need to be involved if you want to select something other than Red for the dragon type or to get a tail/horns instead of the wings.

The game automatically grants you (red) wings when you reach level 9, but it tends to bug a little with cloaks and that stuff.

True on the cloaks, forgot about that. Try taking any cloak-slot thing off and see if there are wings. I've had mine bug with a cloak and I couldn't see them, hah. Had to remove cloak and relog, they were back. Also, there are cloaks that show your wings, just keep crafting until they show up with the cloak.
As for my dog, good lulck, she's a tiny one. Unlike my D. Just ask your mom.

Is Beholders the only epic dungeon a 10 Rogue/20 SD can solo?
I think I can solo Spires with Shapechange scroll, but that's if I can do the bridge lure properly alone.

I have a question about electroplating - the modern technique was invented in about 1805, but I've heard mention of an ancient form used in the old Mesopotamian-type empires, called a Parthian battery. Trouble is there's little hard data on these, what they actually did, and whether or not they worked. My question is, would it be unreasonable for an artificer on Amia to use any form of electroplating as fluff for fancy special item creation?
There is still no hard evidence to support eloctroplating with the Baghdad battery. It was a theory from a researcher who had observed gold plating on other jewelry but it has been disproven. The jewelry found and believed to have been electroplated where instead proven to have been fire-gilded with mercury
From what I know, the Parthian battery had a voltage of 4V or so :p

In theory, everybody, and nobody at the same time can solo beholders. I must say, that doesn't look like a combat-oriented build at all, so don't expect to be able to handle much more. The giants are the weaker "epics" out there, and everything else is likely to lick your arse.
I try to speak by experience, but I don't play a sneaker, so I may be wrong at end of counts (which I am not, because I am always right. Yup)
Well Giants are easy using the Spittle trick, Beholders are supposedly easy being a sneaker but I've never been. I haven't done Snowbeast and the like so I have no idea.

1) Sneakers don't have much luck in boss-soloing, and I believe it's been said only the Beholders is sneak-ale.
2) No one should be able to solo bosses.
3) Point two is just wishful thinking

I think if any type of character should be able to solo a boss, it should be sneaks. They need that boost/ability for acquiring epic loot just as the rest of us.
Got a question-
When a weapon says "Deals extra bludgeoning damage", wtf does that mean exactly?
It deals a certain amount of extra damage, as bludgeoning damage (effective against skeletons, but not zombies, for example).
My question: Is there a way I can turn my wizard into a specialist for any reason, after char creation? Will it require a rebuild? Is it a free maintenance request? Is it even possible?

How much extra damage?
To try to answer yours: Anything you picked at level 1 can't be undone from what I know.
