Back to colors, I always liked Isen to stand out. Like, reallly stand out, which is why his armor in Ultrinnan made him look like a freaking paladin

Silver base with gold trim, and 'snow' for the cloak. with a black clasp.

Isen needs to wear all his previous house colors...

Isen the Technicolor Drow.

All I know is that Amia's most ancient Drow family still has members about that are not played by myself on this server :P Careful I might talk my sis into bringing back Raele Vandree LOL.

Vandree did not have a very graceful end, to public knowledge. They attempted to summon a demon to scheme against the other houses, but it went on a rampage inside the house and killed most of the leading members. That was the word on the streets before they were forgotten, anyhow... ;)

Yeah Kir'nack could be a Technicolor Drow too. Olath'Orbb, Kor'ali, Arabett, Vandree, and finally I think Xull d'Vharcan. Everybody wanted him! Despite the fact that Kor'ali, Arabett and Vandree all crumbled in his wake.

Whatever next house comes around the Underdark should maybe try giving up the color code thing. It's a powerful visual indicator to have uniform colors, but it doesn't necessarily make much sense IC and does make for a somewhat silly Power Rangers effect.

The Vandree that fell with the house were not the true leadership ;) the only two heirs alive still are Raele and Delia

And on a second note who said I was talking Vandree being the isles ancient drow house that still has descendants around ;)

Fair enough on the second point. But to be honest, bloodlines have never held much weight on Amia, and I would argue in drow culture in general. Families may look out for their own in order to preserve their prestige and authority. They wish to separate themselves from the rabble. But I doubt there's any general respect for the legal rights of other people that can't protect their own interests. If anything, it might be seen as a weakness or a joke to be heir to a once great family and since then have lost the politcal assets to maintain influence. Especially Amian houses have historically been political entities in which anyone can be recruited and raise into the inner circle if they prove themselves, and leadership is passed on or taken. The "true leadership" at any given time is whoever controls the assets of the house and represents it in the matron's council.

I'm don't really meant to argue with you; I think it's cool that there are old drow PCs around. My character's story is done for now, but I do feel a little wistful that the great names of the golden age (which, in my opinion, was the year after the creation of Ultrinnan or so) are mostly gone. But I think IC, drow don't really have much respect for history. They are a race that live very much in the now, and the only use they have for history is to dig up shit that incriminates competition. That's why the most effective way to end a house is not only to kill the current leadership, but also soil their name. It's exactly what happened with both Arabett and Vandree, and Kor'ali brought it on themselves. There was both an IC and an OOC desire to bury the houses for good and prevent resurrection later.

What I would like to see from a new drow house is something original and imaginative. A new internal structure instead of the old "matron priestess of Lolth, cleric daughters, house mage and weapons master". Why not have a joint-faith house with a cabal of Kiaransaleenians or Ghaunadaurians, or a leading counil of different people with one matron representing in public. Plenty of duergar, orog and svirf retainers. Or anything different, really. Not talking about secretive heretics, really, just something orthodox and more importantly, clever and powerful enough to establish themselves in society and perhaps change what's possible in Amian drow culture in the future. A challenge, instead of just repeating tired old tropes.

Bloodlines matter more or less in larger and stronger drow regions, however as a player I take pride in a family I started is still carried on to one extent or another :) Especially when I started not knowing a thing about drow other than they are evil and black. I would have to say that my first character ever, followed by my second drow toon have left impacts on the server to one degree or another.

A lot of what Iron said, about bloodlines. To be honest if someone touted being heir or something of a dead house Zrae (for example) would essentially go 'And? Your house is dead or disgraced, why should I care? Come see me when you've proven you can do something worthy.' cause, well, she's a bitch, but she takes actions over bravado. And she doesn't give a crap how powerful someone was in a dead city, to boot ;p

Which is not to say old drow should not come back! They should! And are! They jusy need to plot their paths wisely. There's definitely power to be had now and as Nec' grows :3

I have no intent on bringing back Vandree as Delia again, let alone Duskryn has been a known good alligned surface family of a mix of Drow and Elves for many many years in the region. No instead i decided to pull a 4th ed, and let old characters fade and pass on, and bring in a fresh evil drowsy :) Besides it is pretty dull when all the evil Drow on the server do the same thing, it is always good to find ways to shake the waters, and add to the best part of being a Drow...the intrigue and suspense.

Being one of the older members of drow rp that still play on the Server. The community is lacking something that inspires new players to come back and invest there time. I can speculate all the things that i believe are wrong but they opinions without fact really. So I'll spare you all.

I've ran around with Ra'mora. Truth be told- I'm not impressed with Nec. Nor do I feel like building up yet ANOTHER city. I've given suggestions 1000 times, only to be met with no, no, no. Alot of people ping me all the time telling me I need to make come back, or I should do a Drow house, but to what end is my opinion. So I stick with my elf characters.

As for Ra'mora. I might pop on and sell some items in the shop. Until some female gets the nerv to try PK- In which case we'll test our skills or Veh'dra magically returns. Which inspires 10 Qos'Yutus that are in hiding to just start playing again. For that matter I'll never stop wearing the Red and Black. There's just been no great leader to come after who inspires, and shares RP like some of the older players.

Ryoko, the new Drow are trying, but truth be told is that there needs to be more of a regular Drow base active. The new players have a really good opportunity to build up with fresh isle lore for Nec, they just need to spend more activity on regularly and do more stuff independently without the DMs around, as in player run events for minor plot stuff. One of the things that made Udos Droxun great in its prime was that there was a regular base of Drow on in the city, and they were constantly doing stuff. Ultrinnan in all honesty was second best compared to Udos Droxun, however over time Drow RP has changed a lot due to lack of Drow, and of course this can lead to Drow plotting behind the scenes against rivals.

As a player that is returning to the land of evil Drow I decided that this time around I am going to work to help build back up Drow RP on this server to the best of my ability. One bit of advice I will give to new Drow players looking to build up Nec is to look at what Ultrinnan and Edonil did wrong, and also look at more lore books, like the Dark Elf Trilogy, Daughter of the Drow, War of the Spider Queen, Seige of Darkness, The Legacy, Tangled Webs, Drow of the Underdark, and any Drow source material. Then from there take what they like best and implement those things.

Or maybe it will be a good idea to start with a fresh city setting like that of Sshmath, how it is ruled by a council of wizards. This would make sense because it has been two cities in a row that have been destroyed under the rule of the temple of Lolth, and any ambitious Drow would seize upon that and use that to drive the populace against that status quo. One can even how you say politicize the earthquake that destroyed Udos Droxun as a sign of how the clergy displeased Lolth.

I am not saying that these ideas have to be done this way, but from a plot stand point for a campaign and to make for interesting RP that gets more folks energized to play Drow in the Underdark with fresh new ideas could be what is needed to bring back evil Drow RP. You never know there could be a coup against the temple of Lolth, and the priestesses rally together and end it, solidifying their rule. The possibilities are endless and with the state of things as they are now, there is so much potential.

Just not impressed with any of it yet.

1) I'm not building another city only to be told we must leave it, we can't save it DM fiat has spoken. If I do drow, I'd likely do it in L'Obsul, which makes me weird but we have a fair promise on the damn thing not vanishing for the moment (perhaps because nothing does anything there but go to the shops and level).
2) I'm not going to put up with half the drama I ever did last time around because this time I don't have a hand on my leash. My drow are mean-ass ballers and I don't mean the type who play the in premier league.
3) Timezones are not my friend here. The majority of drow seem to live in the US, and I don't.
4) 3 reasons is 3 too many!

That said and done. I do play an evil drow. She even visits the underdark occasionally. I have yet to see anyone there sadly, even when I am playing at 3 in the morning my time and US prime. You should be careful. 8)

Understandable for both of you and I totally understand, and honestly they should have kept it L'Obsul since the only idol of Lolth is there. When it comes to building a city and then having to leave it, that does get tiring as a player. My advice was mainly for new Drow players and other Drow players that wish to spend the time and energy to build a city and hopefully this city would be the last Drow city built. I am not entirely sure why Edonil had to fall, I know that Ultrinnan fell primarily because the DMs wanted to move the Drow to B side, then Udos Droxun not sure why it was chosen to be destroyed.

But I am doing what I can to help revitalize stuff for Drow RP.

Numbers I feel ya there about not seeing anyone around when you have time to play.

Also Ryoko when it comes to how Drow should be played, I have always gone by the lore created by Forgotten Realms and the works of RA Salvatore and other like minds, then also I add in just winging it.

as for different houses, Isen and Adavrae were trying to make Ussen d'vhid a Selvegartlen house but never got it back to noble standing, and then everyone left and joined the new house.

and as for how drow should be played, i just add a dab of psychotic and borderline senility in isen to keep things fresh. Who knows if he is going to say something deep, or suggest we strip our flesh off and make clothes out of eachother.

Well if you and Advrae want to be a noble house, start RPing a conspiracy to take charge, all Drow despite religion and loyalties are ambitious, and in Drow society station is everything. You guys had and still have the perfect opportunity, just need to both devote the time to being around and work to get the ball rolling :)

Every now and then I understand completely why a lot of the old/new DMs were fed up and frustrated with the old old drow.

That is 100% the goal. Unfortunately a lot of the delays and *ahem* 'unimpressiveness' of Nec' is that we are waiting on Dev updates (Dev shit's backlogged, yo!). Can't expect things to be great overnight. Well, you can, but then you're just being silly.

Also, Edonil fell cause of, ah, well the old leaders of Edonil sort of pissed off a obyrith >_> Caused a huge army of orcs and demons to march to set waste to Edonil. IC consequences, and all that (and honestly from what I have discovered about the previous cities it was the exact same thing).

In Edonil? I honestly forgot it was eventually added to the temple, it has been a cool minute, secondly I have not been to Nec for a long while, but when I was last there, there was no idol to Lolth, and if travel there wasn't so restrictive I would have been able to see it.

Well of course that is the goal, all I was mentioning it was not about looks or the Dev team, they are busy, my main point I was talking about was about more player RP events, little minor things that happen day in and day out. Players, especially faction leaders should do little RP events that go along with the main storyline to add flavor and also show people that stuff is going on here and attract a player base that is using the city and areas more often. Honestly the Dev team here does an outstanding job and I wouldn't even think about harping on them.

Nope Udos Droxun was an earthquake that ended up causing Cordor to be remodeled, and the move to Ultrinnan. Now Ultrinnan and Edonil were overrun and trust me, I am a firm believer in IC consequences for IC actions ;)

The purpose of my posting what I have been posting is to encourage Drow players to try new things and think outside the box, and have fun while doing it, and at the same time giving players that are not in the ruling class or in positions of power stuff to do and think about.

Ultrinnan was a victim of the server segregation policy, where all the blackies got put on bossmia with the powergamers. :P

I grow tired of hearing the old "back in our day playing Drow was better" rant: You cannot live on past glory.

Dusty's DM style is to let you as the players forge the story and because of that, everything that has happened over the last 3 years has occured due to the decisions and actions of players. Most cities on Amia don't have that luxury: Glim's NPCs have great influence in Tarkuul, nothing gets approved in Kohlingen without Rigela giving it the ok just as nothing occurs in Underport without me knowing to name a few examples. There is no greater opportunity to make something of your Drow characters guys.

Take the opportunity for what it is and don't waste it.

[edit] Duskryn speaks great wisdom.

O I forgot about Underport. Maybe I'll do somethin there.
It'll take a hell of a lot of convincing to have Jys'zyne stick her neck out on drow politics though 8)

Then don't focus on the politics. Think outside the box. Conquer the Underdark around you or something.

Galenson the old glory days trying to relive is why I pulled a 4th ed and killed off all of my ancient PC's or retired them, then decided to restart fresh with a new start :) I see the potential in the UD now days, and I have been involved in Dustys works and I like what he does and how he does it, and would love to be able to work more with him on stuff :D

Also numbers I am sending you a PM now, I have an idea that you may or may not be interested in.

We should have Underdark Saturdays or something. We did at some point, but stopped.

I'd love to see more UDers about. Plenty of room and opportunity for new characters to move in and set down their roots.

That's it! Go be creative, people. There are many ways to be great, to be golden.

I hate to rain on the parade but I think x-days are about as productive as 'casual friday' is in the real world. It does nothing except alleviate a humdrum mundanity briefly. It isn't particularly geared towards generating lasting interest or longevity.

You want to keep people playing? Keep them busy, make sure they have to keep up with the latest happenings, yet at the same time make the world feel like they can change it. Stimulus, Reaction, interaction. That's the golden rule.

Everyone logging in once a week to stare at each other for 4 hours and then go about their other business is counter productive. Rather we need to examine the entire foundations of the Drow society and the way it's presented. If we find (as was endemic in the bad old days) people standing around for hours at a time then we need to figure out alternative ways of employing them. Being seen is important- for sure, but being seen and doing something is better. This is where Underport gets a point. It has a marketplace that is outside. People are seen to be shopping, buying things, selling things. There's a slave auction. Ultrinnan had an outdoor bar that was as much a magnet as anything else in the city (the house sector used to be dead by comparison and the temple only got dusted prior to sacrifices and events).

Currently we have things to do - but we don't have opportunities to be seen doing them. If this means a smaller city by all means do it. I'd rather have a generally active outdoor society than one that moves from building to building. There should be places to hide away and plot. Tenements and rental homes, dingy inns and quiet shops but at the same time there needs to be an understanding that You are Underground. In a Cave. So you can do more stuff 'outside' because you're not 'outside'...

L'Obsul would be great for this except for the artistic decision to make the place a vertical shaft (which is poorly dealt with by NWN)

Yes we are well aware of that, but thanks for letting us know that dedicating a day to having massive turnouts (Saturdays are typically the days we do events with Dusty, also) is a terrible, terrible idea. O, the error of our ways. Woe is me.

We're active more than just one day a week, thank you very much. And we are keeping people busy.

Disclaimer: If I sound terse, I am intending to. I am wholly sick and tired of people telling us we are Doing It Wrong day after day on the forums. Especially when we are doing precisely the things they claim we should be doing. It's that shit that makes me just want to give up in the UD and stop playing there, because apparently the general sentiment of the non-UD community is that we are just awful at what we do. And yes, I do take offense to when a lot of hard work that others and myself have done both IC and OOC are crapped on. Anyone would.

edit: And just so you know, we have noticed in the past that when 'Underdark Saturdays' take place we see spikes of greater activity during the week as well. So this terrible idea generates more RP and activity than we already have.

Let's stay civil, please. I think Numbers just wanted to say that with a fix day, people might see it as becoming a chore more than anything. If it's not the case, then good. But it's not a reason to get all rude and personnal.

I agree with Naivy's thoughts, if not his belligerence. :)

Winya Wednesdays and Shevarash Sundays have been pretty successful in elf-land. Winya Ravana is presently as busy as I've ever seen it, and not just among people who were already playing elves: new players have been drawn in, who in the past had thought "I'd like to try an elf, but Winya is so dead all the time!" Now they have a pretty good idea of when to be able to find RP, and traffic in the city has bumped upwards notably. No reason the same thing can't happen in the Underdark.

And I'm just saying that it's a start but not necessarily the whole of a solution. You (speaking broadly here, but mainly at Naivatkal) are saying I'm poohpoohing the idea. Not really, I just think that structural change will likely lead to greater interest than superficial stuff.

And yeah, there is a problem when everyone logs in for 4 hours and does the event then logs out next reset not to be seen until the next one. I played that for awhile. I'm not the 'non-UD' community. I've played in every incarnation of the Amian Underdark since Udos Dro'xun and I'd really, really appreciate not to be told that I don't know jack by you.

Newsflash: I can be terse too. I can also tell you that the forums are full of people with opinions, some of whom have thought about those opinions, care about the situation and are honestly trying to contribute. Some of the people on the forums even have different opinions to the other ones, so there is always going to be someone on the forum telling you that you are doing it wrong (TM) and biting my head off when I don't say that you're doing it wrong, try and give some ideas and (gasp) perhaps fly in the face of another post in another thread 3 months ago that you adopted that I am ignorant of, isn't doing anything productive except pissing me off with you.

Behaviour like that isn't exactly going to attract more people to Drow Saturday (needs a better name) if you are going around torqueing people off now, is it?

I stated my opinion, I didn't say it was crap, I said I think it's a superficial solution to a deep problem.
Also enough of the 'we' stuff. You can't us and them this crap. I am one of the club. Always have been. Always will be. First character was a drow, last one probably will be as well. You want to talk business, figure out how we can do things, get me on the level with what you're doing. That's fine, but goddamn don't presume to tell me that I'm coming in here and telling you that you're doing it wrong as an outsider because damn that makes me mad...
