I always have sound and voices on, simply because I feel that otherwise I might miss something significant IC. I know I use the quick voice commands sometimes when I don't feel like typing out things such as hellos or goodbyes, or in the case of warnings, I don't feel I have time to.
When my PCs are in a city or settlement I have the game music on, but if they are out and traveling or adventuring, I usually play my own fitting music in the background. Usually Pandora or something I don't really have to think about.

Nostalgia overload hearing the Elfsong! I'm just going to throw all the downloaded music files into my media player and listen to that in place of the area-specific music!

And no, I didn't bother with a poll. People get a little lazy with them or answer without elaboration. I don't mind doing the work to go through and get a consensus myself after enough response.
I do have a point in asking, but I've always been curious about what the average usage or non-usage really is. How many people take advantage of that element of the game and how many would rather listen to Pandora or something?

And though designer intent is not my core reason for asking, I did consider it.
Alright, I've waited a few days, so what is your core reason?
My core reason relates to a certain DC item I have, primarily, and whether I was going to pursue some updates to it. But also to whether I was going to try to become a promoter of designers like you and Phearnun who do utilize it.
Probably not as exciting a reason as you were hoping, but...
I think I might really like your DC item, if I am guessing what you it is correctly. Thanks for the support as well, though I find it slightly depressing that a fan need of people on the design team and DM team don't listen to the sounds.
I personally think sound is a critical element to immersion in the game, after all how scary and suspenseful would movies like Jaws or Paranormal be when muted and subtitled.

Also, some part of the emote-wheel does not create any text, only sound/movement, so when you have voices off you can't actually hear if I'm laughing or stretching Not to mention the time spent on picking the voiceset!
