Playing in Windows 8.1. (People who think Windows 8 is bad on anything other than an ideological level are deluded) Game crashing a lot for no apparent reason. Any fixes?

I've tried compatibility mode and all that.

Yes, use a better OS.

(but seriously, NWN is tricky with Win7, will be worse with Win8, all I can suggest is the Win7 usual stuff which sounds like you tried)

((but super seriously use a better OS))

I'm gonna be totally wicked now;

1: Remove the compatibility
2: Check in run as administrator
3: Update your graphics drivers (nvidia drivers 331.82 runs nwn fine. ATI was never big on backwards compatibility so that might be your problem)

Rule of thumb with compatibility, don't use it unless the game doesnt even start as all it does is force older runtime routines on the process. Most older programs will run if not even improve with the newer runtimes. 32 bit emulation in 64 bit systems is also worse with compatibility mode so you'll likely see stuff like "Bam! Access violation! attempted reading/writing at address 0x00000014 imdeadnowsadface" after awhile of gaming. More often then not its driver issues or general computer health, like people cramming in their old chipset/graphics/sound XP drivers on a windows 8 computer and then complains when it runs like shit. Laptops/company brought computers is also notoriously bad when it comes to drivers and pre-installed garbage.

I've done all those things! If something doesn't help, I generally turn it off.

Bit hard to troubleshoot no apparent reason. You could try installing the 2005 runtimes found here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=3387 if you don't already have them.
