When I explore a new area, what I find gratifying as a player is to find hidden gems, a secret passage, a nice viewpoint for screenshots, sources of local lore etc. Something rewarding for those times when we don't run 'n bash, you know?
What I find rather unpleasant is blocked transitions, though. Ostland still has a few of these unfortunately, which makes one wonder if anything critical is missing.
I find the latest tree overrides (since last amia hak update I believe?) quite ressource intensive, so try to avoid forest or swamps as much as possible, in risk of crashing my 2007 rig.
Immersion is great, though I'd suggest smaller walls of text for some of these lore-giving NPCs. My preference would be to find this lore in books, sometimes.
Edit: also, given the vast feedback voiced before about the lack of RP hubs, I think any area update should strive to foster encounters by random people:
- less interior "flavor" areas (khol update had a few of these 1-map small interior rooms)
- more crossroads, open plaza
- location of leyline nodes is critical
This is just my 0.02 euro, I'm no designer myself.
