What do you think about the idea to place the map(or maps) in the welcoming page? It's the first picture newcomers get to see of amia, and i figured a map better represents it then a bunch of 5 year old screenshots of random places.

It clearly says something like this:
"Caraigh, an island that rivals Amia in size.."

Well, as I said in the Lore topic: until someone sets down definite distances, it's all pretty ambiguous and open to interpretation. It will depend on who you ask, because I'm sure the DMs don't have a common understanding even among themselves.
It's kind of funny. I have never actually thought about it explicitly. But distances and geography are some of the most fundamental and concrete lore about the surroundings we play in. It's surprising that there's never been a concentrated effort to spell it out.

I've used this map to sort of figure out Amia (I have to google image search for it everytime as I can't really find it through the forums). The scaling is probably a bit off, but I like the detail.

And what I think is labled Caraigh (Things are too small on that map!) is smaller than the island upon which sits Cordor. Assuming, again, that the map is accurate. Which, honestly, I'd not bet any money on.

The R&L topic states they're not perfectly accurate but that they give a good image of Amia and its whereabouts. The locations are pretty accurate, the dimensions aren't. Yoss already answered this in the Ostland Lore topic.

Svensk has a good idea. Not so much that a map replace the pictures, but that we somehow integrate the map and update pictures.

I could put a web page together! I would happily do so and make it somewhat fancy, too. I need projects like this for my portfolio.

I always thought Amia was between the Ruathym and the Sword Coast, go figure!

That's 'cause yer both silly. Also, here's a thought: I make regional maps for some people. They generally tend to look something like this: It's not really fancy or detailed (down to the specific city) like that one Svensk linked, but I could make some for Amia if we wanted to go through the trouble of doing a full cartography project with proper scaling in relation to the rest of Faerun. If not, that's fine! I would still love to make a Welcome Page if no one else has the time or want to do so.

I believe the map posted by Suhjet above is the most recent map of Amia and was made after Disco's second-last revision of the island's geography (but before the most recent one in which the Barrow Lake, Trader's Refuge and other areas were added and in which Cordor acquired an outpost overlooking the Lowland Swamps). I've generally used the map posted by Zedrik and the Sea of Swords map to figure out where things are relative to each other. I think both of those are based on an older map (by ex-player Jaqueline) that I can no longer find.

Ah, ok. Makes sense! I might have said it once before, but I like the idea of maybe a single map of some kind, maybe as a background image, but the action shots would be best for the advertisement. A map is way too low key to be a centerpiece unless we're a game about cartography.

A bit of a necro-thread, but the map-lover in me had to post this. Mark taylor (markustay on the Candlekeep forums) apparently has a great looking page on DeviantArt. The latest version of The North covers Amia's setting. Interestingly, the isle of Gundarlun is pretty much located where Brogendenstein is positioned, as per our official lore. This position is consistent with both the 2.0 edition of the Setting (The map is here) and the Official Atlas of the Realms (TSR8442) which full detailed map is available hereGundarlun disappeared in the official 3.0 map of Faerun. Was this part of the 15% world shrinkage mentioned in this interesting article about FR Geography, or will the Dwarves of Brogendenstein find the remain of Gundarlun deep below the Underkingdom ? dum dum dum

http://www.fiverr.com/metruis/make-you- ... sy-rpg-mapFound a guy who makes maps for cash; Quite cheap actually... What about pooling in some cash for this guy and hoping he can help us with our map problem?

I don't see anything wrong with the art style and quality of our previous maps, but it's not a terrible idea. It is absolutely not worth doing until we have decided on the scale of the islands, though, and their exact location.

The idea was just to get a decent map for our entire world: with Ostland and Caraigh and all the other areas to have on our startup page so people can SEE our world!
