As the loser that I am, I went all out and replaced every track of the game to music tracks played in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Soo... I listen to that wherever I am role-playing. I want to say that not a single place holds a tune that isn't enjoyable.

Different characters have different soundtracks. The one I started today has a lot of folk/americana stuff playing for it.

New albums, generally. There's too much music released every week not to go through it while playing.

That's not music, nemesis. That's the auditory equivalent of being keel-hauled. My soundtrack is my iPod. How terribly boring an answer, I know.

And nothing is as rewarding as discovering a 4-star album for yourself when you least expect it. My Spotify playlists tend to be for reference only; I browse them to pick an album to listen to. But here are some of my better lists for background music: Ambient/Drone/Modern ClassicalDoom MetalPost-RockAnd the stuff currently under review: 2013

Depends on my mood, really. Usually it's the LotR soundtrack, Final Fantasy soundtrack(s), Skyrim soundtrack, Two Steps from Hell or Nox Arcana.

One Direction. On repeat. The entire time. Before I continue, just let me go beat myself up Liar Liar style, for even joking about that. But seriously, I just use playlists on my iPod, most of my lists consist of around 100 songs (with the exception of one, which is two albums from the same artist), mixed with numerous artists so I've made a playlist of more recently downloaded songs, songs I always listen to anyway and older songs that I stopped listening to for a while which have re-sparked my interest. Other than that I wont share who I listen to, because I know just about every Amian doesn't either like the music I do, or possibly never even heard of most of it, with few exceptions.

I used to have playlists for 'types' of RP, before I lost them. A plotting playlist, a scheming playlist, a devising a diabolical plan playlist, a tearing down the fundamental laws of time and space playlist, a plotting playlist, a fighting playlist, a screaming for Yossi playlist and so on.

When i wrote stories about werewolves and murder etc, i did prefer very very dark slow music. The theme was gothic, churches, vampires, gloom. It gave me chills. But damn it inspired

Depending on the mood fo my character, but generally softer music Gregory and the hawk, Damien Rice, To what i got on my blasted itunes, which i still wonder why i use sometimes (Killers, Coldplay, script, eminem, system of a down etc) And then of course Youtube! Soundtracks i listen to are Okami-one of my favorite console games, All of the OST for the Haruhi Suzumiya stuff, nice bit of Mister Zimmer never hurt. I roam about a bit on Bandcamp a bit as well for a tonne of bands which i couldn't name off the top of my head. Or Youtube journey my way from a artist. Basically, i listen to -anything- apart from wub wub while Rping. Even if i do listen to it for leisure at other times. (Take that you people with your genre elitists) Okami-Susano is Ready Haruhi Suzumiya-Itsumo no Fuukei (Might be because it's the narration theme) Gregory and the Hawk-Boats and Birds Snowmine-Let Me In Graham Fink-Track and Field Yes Please-Dreams Lullatone-Everyday music Damien Rice-Cheers Darlin' The Script-Lose Yourself Blindguardian-The Bards SongI am welcome to most forms of music actually. Though always around to discuss it or spray people with links, Pm's and such. Edit: for examples of a few of the shorter ones.

Holy shit, guys. I can't wait to check all this music out!
Saying it depends on the character reminds me, when I play Myrrh (lovable satyr), I put on the Lord of the Dance or other celtic music on Pandora. xD

Sephiroth's "Those Chosen by the Planet" theme is one of the best villain themes of all time in my opinion. I recently played that game for the first time on an emulator. Most games still do not stack up to its quality, hehe. And that opening theme is like magic the first time you hear it.

Truthfully I think I prefer the composition on VI. Terra, Kefka, The Decisive Battle, Shadow, Aria Di Mezzo Carattere, and of course Dancing Mad - the ultimate finale. It also fits the world like a glove, with its organic fantasy pieces, dramatic fanfares and 19th century/steampunk spirit. VII's crazy techno pieces or dreamy new age ambient didn't always mesh quite as well with the game. But yeah, it's still a beautiful soundtrack and ranks among my favorites. The better production made possible by a new platform of course gives VII an edge. Actually going back to listen to them again, I'm not sure. Tifa's Theme, Cosmo Canyon, J-E-N-O-V-A, Those Chosen By The Planet, Gold Saucer, Still More Fighting/Those Who Fight Further (whatever the correct translation, my copy only has the booklet in Japanese). VII seems to have more solid songs than I remembered. Hard to pick a favorite. But if I were to compile an album of 10-15 songs from one Final Fantasy soundtrack, it would probably be VIII. It's not as consistent, but when it's good it's really good. Chrono Cross is also an incredibly good fantasy soundtrack: Yasunori Mitsuda - Time of the Dreamwatch/Dreamwatch of Time (which is it?)Xenogears, Shadow Hearts and Wild Arms had some pretty sweet soundtracks too. None of the above hold a candle to Akira Yamaoka's work with the first three or four Silent Hills, but they're not exactly Amia music.

Never figured you for a JRPG fan, Iron. Or a JRPG soundtrack fan? And yeah, Akira Yamaoka's work is generally awesome, more so in the Silent Hill games than in other franchises. Maybe a DM event will come along wherein those songs will feel appropriate?

...I shamefully have youtube playlists dedicated to my different characters. What is worse: I have different playlists for RP with different character pairings as well. YEAH. I SHIP MY OWN CHARACTER. WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?!>_> I would link them to prove it, but then I would die of shame. (There are over 200 songs in these playlists -easily-, and they are all individually selected.) Most of them end up in her PC story... because justification is a thing. EDIT: Also, since I didn't make this playlist, it's fine to link up. Music Box Playlist for those times when you wish to frolic through forests or be creepy in your dark gloomy castle!!

IronAngel wrote: <Far to long of a post to quote, but it was neat. Read it you other guys.> Honestly, I haven't played six. But I think most of them had some pretty good composition. I liked this song in particular from four. FFIV - Edward's MeoldyI remember the first time I heard it, Edward feeling as lost and alone as any single person possibly can. His lover is dead and the kingdom she held dear is a smoking ruin. He feels personally responsible for all of it. And he knows he's a coward. At his weakest moment, he reaches for his lute and starts playing this sort of... lonely feeling melody. And while he's playing it, his dead girl friend appears to him above the water. It's just a really great moment. I know that story feels a bit like you were missing parts at some points, but I really liked it. FFVI did a good job of telling a story that got me invested in continuing. And when you crash your ship and return to the village you saw Cecil destroy in the first scene, it sort of hits you. I also really enjoyed Rosa's Love Theme. The first time I heard it it made me feel even more for Cecil as a character, the Dark Knight who gave everything he was to his king, only to be used for the blackest villiany. And then this sweet girl comes to him as he's going to bed, trying to get her to open up to him and tell her what's wrong. But he doesn't want to bog her down with his sins. I loved FFIV, but I think its only mistake was letting Cecil become a paladin. It trivializes the idea of redemption in my opinion. But as a milestone it worked I suppose.
