Waiver of Rule-Based Protections Form for Amia Original TopicPlayer Name: Phearnun Character 1: Ser Robert I hereby waive the following Rule-Based Protections in respect to my characters listed above: [X] The protection of a reasonable chance to back down from from PvP in-character. [X] The protection of indication of intention to attack. [X] The protection of forced release after 24 realtime hours of captivity (My character may be held in captivity indefinitely). [X] The protection of no graphic/gory torture. [X] The protection of "immortality" insofar as I allow DMs to permakill my characters in the interests of moving the story-arc of the server along. I reserve the right to request DM intervention if I feel any person is taking advantage of this waiver to abuse me in an OOC manner. I recognize that this waiver precludes me asking for any punishment based on actions taken with respect to this waiver.

Erm... my asking of this question might lead people to perceive me as ignorant, foolish, or both, but... why is this a separate thread/topic?
EDIT: After taking a closer look at the previous topic, I've made the observation that it was quite old, and replying to it would've been something akin to an act of topic necromancing. But... that's not against the rules, as far as I know. Clarification?

I'm actually curious of how many instances this is actually used in game? As well, a couple of questions regarding the applicability or lack of applicability of the various waivers.
First, the protection from reasonable chance to back down in PvP. Since the "Kneel or die" RP has been upheld as valid RP leading to PvP in which one is likely to die with either choice, it would seem that a players option to reasonably back down is already waived.
Protection from the intent to attack, is this to counter the need for a DM to be informed or oversee the attack? Or is it to waive the actual need for some minimal amount of RP prior to delivering a cheap shot while the other player is AFK? For the first, generally, no DM involvement indicates it didn't happen. For the second, giving an Orog the finger, or drawing your sword clearly fulfills the intent to attack, so I'm just not seeing how a waiver adds to RP here.
Graphic torture clause... Since the server PG-13 rating was dropped and Disco specifically pointed out that it did not include the themes of torture, explicit sex and so on, just the general not being as anal and more adult leaning, this wavier is still against the rules and should be handled on a case by case basis. But if you need a gory torture club and can't stand a fade to black, you know who's in your club anyway, more power to you.
As far as I know, forced release is another case by case clause. In that when held for more than 24 hours 'without recourse or RP' the PC should be released. In my experience, I have yet to come across a player who, when faced with imprisonment longer than 24 hours, will opt out when RP is provided during that time. So, this particular clause seems to be just for jerks how don't want to be bothered with any RP once they toss someone in the can.
And finally, the protection of immortality. Unless Yossarian's dissertation on 'Serious Mode', and the inherent prerogative of every DM in their ability to enforce Permadeath has been rescinded, what exactly is the difference that this wavier makes?
All the above does not include the time it will take to find and locate the requisite information on which wavier applies to which character, player, alt login and whatever else that is filling that thick notebook while attempting to RP at the same time. For players that interact on a regular basis, these particular tendencies and waivers should be known already. And those that interact infrequently, a simple communication making sure everyone involved is on the page will be needed anyway since these are variations on rules everyone may or may not already know.

Why not just have something in your bio instead of posting here? I doubt anyone is going to remember who posted what.

I would think the bio is more adequate place as well, no one has time to check the forum before initiating already confusingly hectic pvp tooling.

Actually it was why in regards to why the bio should be used for exclusively in-character purposes.

Is there any way we can get the waivers merged into the original topic please? Note: Quote: [X] The protection of no graphic/gory torture. This one can't be waived by word of Disco. If you have it in your waiver please remove it.

The original thread is three years old. A new thread / collection has the benefit that people actually have to re-commit to it, and those who signed waivers but would not want to remain on it are not in for a bad suprise because someone saw a three year old post of theirs. It would also help as people would then update their character listings. Not that this thread is useful for that anymore seeing it is cluttered with other stuff now.

If the DMs want to lock the old ones I'll start a new one with the updated forms developed in the equally-old discussion.

It would be nice if there was a widget in game that would display information like this IG. Looking through this stuff while in game on a forum is likely never going to be practical but the idea is noble none the less.

I will be needing a ban then, as I was under the impression that if all involved individuals were to consent, it was fine to get into the nitty gritty of cutting up bodies. Though I'm somewhat confused as to why I was not banned in the past, as most of the graphic roleplay I've ever been involved in was submitted to the DM team as a series of screenshots as part of a request ages ago.

I believe the rule refers to things like; Might be graphic, so I obfuscated it in case! *He smashes his heavy flail repeatedly into her skull, the spiked bludgeon leaving nothing but smashed brain, blood and bone all over the ground* Or something to that effect, or worse? I'm not really creative in that regard. Stuff like *He severs the limb off in a gruesome manner* is allowable, I believe.

I emote Mathus doing all kinds of gory brutalizations and eviscerations when I'm playing. I didn't know that was a problem...?

I suppose it really depends on the two players. People have varying levels of what they perceive as graphic. Personally, if I ever was going to use something remotely graphic, I'd ask the other player if they're okay with a few disturbing emotes and then continue on, and will go back to boring non-descriptive emotes if they asked me to.

My take on it is that violent one liners to add a bit of blood are not what this rule was meant to protect from, and I do not think anyone would feel sick to their stomach from reading what 666WaysToHell wrote. I know that my combat emotes on Robert tend to be a bit more descriptive than that, and I have yet to get nudged by a player or a dm asking me to tone it down. I think what actually sparked the need to have the rule written was when a dm actually threw up because she stumbled on an extremely descriptive torture scene. References to genetalia mutiliation or descriptive texts how you slowly skin a person are in the clearly banned category. You may think that goes without saying, but you would be wrong, and hence the rule was implemented.
