I mean, I can't be the only that knows that when you get close to someone invisible, they do not simply appear; it is all a bad deal of game mechanics.
I doubt that the DM who told me to see the invisible people you needed magical sight was wrong, and I tought it would be a nice idea to freshen up everyone's memory about that rule.

Magic invisibility isn't perfect, and doesn't make you automatically undetectable by normal means. unless you have some stealth skill to back it up, there are tell-tale signs that can allow people to detect you. I always considered invisibility more like that one of Predator - sure, you can't see him on long range, but in short range, you can see his outlines etc.

As far as I have been aware, you are hearing the invisible person. You do not see them in any capacity.

Letum is right, it is perfect insofar as you're totally invisible. None of this shimmery, outline butt-poo. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/invisibility.html wrote: The creature or object touched becomes invisible, vanishing from sight, even from darkvision. If the recipient is a creature carrying gear, that vanishes, too. If you cast the spell on someone else, neither you nor your allies can see the subject, unless you can normally see invisible things or you employ magic to do so...
Of course, the subject is not magically silenced, and certain other conditions can render the recipient detectable (such as stepping in a puddle). How it is handled by the game is cumbersome yes, but that just means to apply a case by case discretion to every situation, rather than deeming anyone who acts IC on the momentary transparent glimpse of an invisible character a metagamer. For instance, roll a listen check versus their move silently, or emote a generic response to the stimuli, without declaring the source in any way, shape, or form. For instance, as opposed to emoting like this: ''*Spun about at the sight of John Jacob the illusionist!*'' One should emote like this: ''*He spun about and glanced at his surroundings quizzically.*'' The same thing applies to people in stealth. You may see them out in the open as your character given their detection capacities, but that doesn't mean you should declare their presence there in any manner of emote.

In fact, I was rather refering to people walking around a summon until they bumb into you and go "ah, there you are". As if a creature needed a "summoner" just because they labelled as "Summoned". I do understand that other senses may work to detect a potential presence, but it is wrong to assume all invisible people are making a lot of noise just to have a reason to pin-point them.

Also, you know that glitch where when you enter an area and somehow for a split-second spot someone who's hidden nearby? Yeah, that's a glitch, so general public, stop RPing that you see them.

Sorry, WYSIWYG applies here. If you can be detected in any way, you're detected. The fact that a seasoned adventurer or mage that is well versed in summoning outsiders might be a tad suspicious is the not really an issue. Reasonable action in response to something very out of the ordinary just popping up in the middle of a fight is reasonable.

Nope. If you're close enough to 'see' an invisible person, you are hearing them (or potentially bumping into them). Nothing else.

Yup, so I'm always sure to send people a tell to knock that off! Or I invest in hide/move silently and laugh as they dance around trying to find me.

You see, there are some people that ignore those kind of tell, and just go with the game mechanics, hence why I brought it up.

Which is why I used the word detected rather than seen... And being the offending party to this specific event, that is exactly what happened, the invisible person was bumped into and then an OOC 'you can't actually see me even if your touching me' thing ensued. Even though the other PC in her party was trying to communicate while invisible which kind of lets the whole you can't see me thing out of the bag. Next time, rather than leaving a situation where someone invisible doesn't wish to interact, even when their presence is detected in some way, I should just detect people via Whirlwind Attack instead? "Disembodied voice, and a psuedodragon... Nope, nothing to raise any suspicion of an invisible person..."

The entire point is that the invisible person is heard, not seen. Of course she'd be able to talk to someone in her party, or anyone else: she can be heard.

When my characters are invisible I make darn sure I move them the heck out of the way when others get too close. I assume that other characters have some intelligence and have all their senses working. They can't spot my character from a distance but they sure can detect my character up close. My character breaths, her clothes make noise, she smells like soap, incense or sweat, get close enough and invisibility doesn't mean untouchable. So, for me what you see is what you get. If you run around to try and find her, go for it. It's on my character to make sure she isn't found. I don't mind slowing things down to pause for dice rolls for listen, spot, whatever. Unfortunately there is no skill to protect my character from getting touched while invisible...yet. Yes it's annoying when the situation doesn't turn out like I expected but sometimes you just have to roll with it or run for the hills.
