The half-orc would get a similar response, though perhaps slightly less hesitant in the delivery. If you're a citizen of the Commonwealth, then you need only speak to a representative of the Ministry of Labor and they can see to it that you're added to the roster. If you've yet to apply for citizenship then that'll be your first step. Just ask for Chief Eli Hodgewall at the Census Bureau back in Cordor. There's an examination to take, but it's not so bad really.

*Eli makes sure to set up a small camp near the Ley node, just incase. He is otherwise spotted in the C.B.C. main office in Cordor putting together packets on Commonwealth citizenship*

A pair of lean, darkly dressed ascetics visited Guldorand in the past tenday, donating a large sum of coinage. Later, the slightly shorter, barely more feminine returned periodically to deliver donations of furniture for when the buildings were ready to house them.

She demurely informs the Cordorians nearby that she is a carpenter, and is willing to put her trade to use with the actual labor. The woman introduces herself as "Ahsra, of the New Moon" and informs them that she lives in what remains of Cliffside, and thus can be easily reached their or at Kampo's Tradehouse.

A unit of perhaps three-score men and women of various branches of the Cordorian Guard arrive without pre-amble in Guldorand. They quickly set up station, pitching tents and establishing a proper perimeter around the small, ruined settlement. The Law Knights among them would brook no argument from any passers-by, and the members of the militia under their command begin screening visitors to the town, turning back anyone who cannot present valid citizenship papers from the Commonwealth.

Upon checking on his camp, Eli is surprised to find the checkpoint and guards.

"Hello good men and women of the Ministry of Law. Welcome to Commonwealth, North: The future home of rebuilt Guldorand. As you look to be planning on staying here for the log haul, I offer you a word of advice: If things get a bit too cold at night, use the cave near here for shelter."

He then goes about offering what little food he had stored there and hands out perfectly legal pipe weed to those in the camp that wish for it in an effort to make them feel welcome. He carries on acting as a hospitable host until the sun starts to set, at which time he joins the next patrol returning to Cordor.

Ahsra is similarly surprised on a frequent trip to deliver another piece of furniture. Having no citizenship papers to present yet, however, she resignedly makes her way back down the mountain, lugging the table as she goes.

The table would not be turned down, and it would seem that two individuals in the town who do not fit the same "guard" profile as the others, would be familiar with the woman. Though they would apologize that they could not allow her entry until her papers have been processed, they would explain that they, representatives of the Ministry of Labor, do look forward to working with her and her colleague.

Though the Law Knights would maintain their stoic, disciplined vigil, the militia men would be grateful for Eli's warm welcome and would certainly partake. They talk hopefully with their fellow Cordorian about the future of the small logging town, forging stories of how peaceful and serene it will one day become.

Eli however would note that none of the three-score men who recently arrived, show any sign of heading back to Cordor in the near future however. No patrols are sent back towards the Commonwealth, only through the mountain passes directly around the town site.

Whatever the guards were sent to Guldorand to do, they seem to be growing impatient; or at least, the militia and the two representatives of the Labor Ministry do, the Law Knights remain as stoic as ever.

Soon enough, a courier with a fantastically feathered hat arrives in Guldorand, only to be dispatched a scant few minutes later to the north.

With the return of the fanciful courier early this morning, the mood around the camp in Guldorand seems much improved, and a flurry of activity begins where the two representatives of the Ministry of Labor are concerned. The courier is asked to accompany one of the two men as he goes over to find Eli, of failing that, is sent back to Cordor to search for the hin there.

Ah, Chief Hodgewall, there you are. A rather slender young man, who would appear to have been on the road most of the day judging by the state of his clothes, would stop beside the hin. Eli would recognize the man as one of the two representatives of the Labor Ministry that was sent to Guldorand.

Planning an event of some sort are you? I won't take up too much of your time then, I know you're no doubt busy with your campaign. I did want to inform you in person however that the supplies promised by Copper Industries have finally arrived into our safe keeping, and work will be underway just as soon as we can gather up any volunteers to travel to Guldorand with our workers from the Ministry.

I was hoping I might ask you, in your position in the Census Bureau, to put the word out to any skilled citizens directly. There will of course be a general request for citizens who wish to work on the town's construction, but first it would be best to make sure we have all of those with experience that we can find. Some with the desired skills may not have thought to leave their names with the Ministry of Labor yet.

If you are able to contact any, please make sure they're aware that the Ministry's caravan will be leaving at dawn, two days hence from the northern gate if they wish to travel together. Or they can meet us at Guldorand themselves by nightfall. Construction will start the day after.

*-*-*-*-*

Meanwhile back in Guldorand, a rather up-tight looking man bearing the sigil of the Ministry of Magic arrives by cart, and moves immediately into the cavern which houses the portal to Nes'ek...

Early in the morning, about a dozen uncertain men and women cross through the portal from Nes'ek to Guldorand under the scrutiny of a rather up-tight and dour looking wizard from the Ministry of Magic. He would directly them politely (if not in an overly friendly manner) towards the exit of the cave system and cite that they should speak with the militia outside about securing passage to the safety of the Commonwealth.

Late the previous night a priest made the long climb to see for himself this northernmost district of the Commonwealth he'd heard so much about. Leaning on his staff for support and breathing heavily, Joon pulled off the cloth-wrapped headgear that revealed nothing but his eye through a pair of goggles, ran a hand through his sweaty hair. The Binder might grant him the strength of a bull, but his hooves still hurt. The guards looked at him skeptically, but let him pass when he produced his citizenship certificate and explained he was there to observe the progress and make a donation. Indeed, after a round around the site he deposited a purse of coins for the fund.

---

The drowsy scribe crawls out of his sleeping bag and quickly pulls on a pair of pants as noise from the crowd awakes him. He rubs his eyes and stares at the southerners for a while. Slowly it dawns on him: he knows these people! These are his people, his flock from Nes'ek - nevermind that few attended tenthday service. Delighted, he rushes to greet them.

"Hello, hello! Asif, Layla, ah, and you too! Wh-what are you doing here? How are the children? Isn't it cold up here? Oh, uh, it's me! Joon, of Seeker's Spring. Yes, yes, I live in the Commonwealth now. You've come to see our city? Please, come visit me at the library. There's a shrine to Oghma there now, we can have pray together. And we have a chapel of Lathander. Trust me, you'll feel right at home."

In his excitement, he doesn't leave much chance for the arrivals to recover from his verbal bombardment. Of course, he volunteers to join the group down the mountain. "I was just about to leave for home anyway. If we're lucky, we'll make it in time for a late lunch!"

With proof of citizenship in hand, the shorter, longer haired Disciple of the Void makes her way to speak with the representatives of the Ministry of Labor. She states that she is ready to be directed as needed to apply her carpentry skills to rebuilding.

The people of Nes'ek would seem relieved (if surprised) to see a familiar face in such foreign lands, and even those who do not know Joon himself are reassured by the others of their group. They seem very much appreciated of his hospitality and after a cursory inspection by the guards, are allowed to leave Guldorand by a caravan cart which is provided to take them directly to Cordor where "all of there needs might be tended to, courtesy of the Commonwealth," as it is put.

*-*-*-*-*

Ahsra would fine only one of the two representatives still within Guldorand, a bit of a heavier-built man who never the less seems to be quite fit. He seems to have taken on the role of Foreman for the construction project and can be seen to carry about a set of blueprints which he constantly refers to.

After a cursory conversation with Ahsra about her expertise, he would put her to work without delay, even though the bulk of the workforce from Cordor is not due to arrive for another full day.

The townspeople from Nes'ek are greeted with a potentially familiar face. Loynis mingles his way into the crowd, and offers them a reassuring smile, as he also offered them the hospitality of the Chapel of Lathander should they seek it. He'd also ask if Si'neela had come with the people as well...

He would be informed that Si'Neela had chosen to stay behind and help organize the defenses of the town. His offer of shelter, after some lunch with Joon, would be very much appreciated by all ten of the displaced Nes'ek folk.

*-*-*-*-*

Meanwhile in Cordor, three large, covered carts along with several score of workers assemble at the crack of dawn outside the Ministry of Labor. An hour or so later they form one long caravan as they meander their way out of the City, accompanied by several guards and even a trio of Law Knights, and begin making their way along the roads to Guldorand.

Ahsra's time was partitioned between her work in Guldorand and her training, which seemed to include pursuit of crafts. Upon arriving each working day, she would have some piece of furniture in tow to add to those already being held in donation. A query is posed to the foreman and, should he come by when she was there at work, minister-candidate Hodgewall.

"How many people will be living here when the buildings are made?"

Guldorand…

Not long after, the bug-like legs of the first Mezzoloth scout cross through the gently flickering light of the portal linking far off Nes’ek to Guldorand. Two exploratory steps are taken as it glances around cautiously, taking in its new surroundings… before a field of writhing, rubbery tentacles crop up all around it and the portal, battering through its carapace and crushing it to the floor.

The Cordorian Mage Guard who had been waiting for just such an eventuality, steps out of the shadows then, beginning his next incantation even as a second yugoloth attempts to breach the portal.

This one only makes it half-way through before the Mage Guard’s incantation collapses the portal with a loud popping sound, cutting the unfortunate creature in half…

A notice is soon posted outside the newly constructed wooden gate of Guldorand.

Quote:
BOUNTY

A bounty is hereby offered to any Citizen of the Commonwealth, for proof of efforts made to clear the caverns north of the township of Guldorand of their monstrous squatters. Any such proof brought to Quartermaster Haley by any Citizen of Cordor will be awarded a stipend based on their performance at the end of each month.

Together, we will drive the beasts from our home and make Guldorand a safer place for all Citizenry.

For the Commonwealth!
Jacho Borimus
2nd Clerk, Ministry of Labor

*-*-*-*-*

//Any character who is a Citizen of Cordor can gather up the Pit Sludge, Forge Spirit Remains and Bugbear Tusks which now drop from the mobs in Glinulan's Hold and drop them in the Donations Chest near the entrance to Guldorand. Once a month I'll go through and check how many of each item, each person has donated, and dish out gold accordingly. Again though this will only be paid to characters who have been accepted as citizens of Cordor.

Those refugees are still in Bendir Dale, we mustn't forget. And besides, it feels right to be apart of the reconstruction, lumber is a fine investment!

The work in Guldorand progresses steadily, the lumberjacks and carpenters that comprise the slowly returning population of the town itself aided by the stonemasons and foreman from Cordor's Ministry of Labor. The first few buildings near completion and Jacho Borimus, the Ministry's chief representative in Guldorand, seems well pleased with the progress and with the efforts to clear out the mines of its monstrous denizens.

Between the efforts of those who delve into the mines and the presence of the Cordorian forces fortifying the town, none of the monsters have ventured out of the mine and indeed they seem on the verge of being pressed back into the deepest bowels of the cave system.

Other notable individuals begin arriving soon enough, the lone Law Knight that had been watching over the settlement soon joined by two others. The men from Guldorand that had been enjoying the safety and quietude of the Dale since the town was destroyed thanked the hin for their gracious hospitality, offering a few items of their chosen trade as appreciation before packing up their belongings and beginning the trek home. When they arrive back in their home town they all agree that should the Dale ever need their expertise, they will make time to lend a hand. A particularly skilled Stonemason and Prospector also arrive via cart from Cordor, seeming to have particular interest in the old mine entrance.

Two wizards from the Ministry of Magic also make the trek up to Guldorand one morning, holding a brief conversation with Jacho (who seems a bit perturbed by their presence) before they make their way to the high slope west of the town. There they could be seen from afar to prepare some sort of ritual spell, but the Cordorian guards would prevent any access to the mages while they work their magic. Though they complete their ritual in peace, no immediate effect is noticeable to the common folk, who go about their work (albeit a bit more suspiciously). Once the day is done, the two mages depart on the last cart to Cordor.

The road down the eastern slope towards the rich foothills filled with Guldorand's famous timber are soon closed to anyone not from the town itself. The Law Knight at the newly fashioned gate cites how the lumber industry across the island has been crippled and that Cordor wishes to ensure that the island's richest supply of timber is not threatened by improper logging techniques, over logging or general adventurer negligence until the deficit has been lessened.

All in all, life seems to be slowly returning to Guldorand and great cheers go up among the townspeople as the first cart-load of timber is hauled up from the east to the new Trade Hall for milling and storage.

Hope, it seems, has returned to Guldorand...

The Commonwealth's Minister of Finance continues to camp with the laborers, specifically nearest the tents of those from Guldorand who he had once helped find citizenship in the Commonwealth, and shares in their joy as the town slowly begins to revive. Upon noting the Ministry of Magic's agents, the Hin would pay attention to the area where the ritual preparations were made and attempt to investigate it himself, if at all possible, after they had left.

Sergeant Griffonheart of the Vanguard unit of the Cordor Guard makes frequent patrols to the Guldorand site, ensuring the road between the commonwealth and the area is kept safe and free of trouble. After observing the progress being made in Guldorand, he then traces his steps back down the mountain, then back to Cordor to carry on with his other duties.
