hi,

i have some questions about character rebuillds. searching through the forum, i see there are 3 types mentioned -- 'free', 'self', and 'dc'.
1- what are these, specifically?
2- if a player wanted to rebuild, say, the last couple of levels of his character, how is that accomplished?

thanks!

Hi and welcome! :-)

Free rebuilds are a thing that once existed but aren't done any more. A DC rebuild is when you spend Dream Coins (click the sidebar topic for more info) to rebuild all or part of your character without having to spend time and effort re-earning all your xp. A self-rebuild is when you get ok'd to be lowered to some level of xp, and then have to work your way back up to where you were, working into your new build as you go.

As to procedure, you'd need to get the ok from the DM team by posting a request in the Requests forum. There's lots of examples of those sorts of requests there, to use as guidelines.

Welcome welcome! :)

Self rebuilds are where you level again the normal way, through grinding and the job system. DC rebuilds are where you burn dreamcoins for XP. Free rebuilds are not longer a thing, if I'm correct.

Anyhow, to take off a few levels, you would request a 'delevel', stating your current stats, feats, abilities and skills and then your prospective build (again stating the stats, feats abilities and skills). You'd also mention the RP relevant to the changes.

Edit: Lizzie beat me to it :(

Lizzie knows so many nice things about stuff, that there used to be a thread devoted to her. She's like the Pythia of Amia.

Free rebuilds are still done in very rare occasions and are very strict.

They are given for excample when the character got bugged for some reason which is very rare.

They are given on older characters who were not played a while and hence do not have the benefits some class changes brought with them. Those are mainly Assassin, Knight Commander, Master Scout. In those cases we allow the people to re-do those levels in order to obtain the new gimmicks they recieved. Those rebuilds are however not allowed to change anything else.

The rest which was said is correct.

De-Level: You are taken down in level until you reach the level you want to make your first change.

Full Rebuild: You create a new character because you need to change things which were set upon character creation liek Ability stats, first feats.

Then there are two ways to get your levels back:

Self-Rebuild - Hunting, Using the job system: You gain the XP back the way you gained them the first time, by hunting, solving quests, gaining experience. This method is "free".

DC-Rebuild: You pay DC you collected on your time on the server. Those DC are handed out by DM when they spot you roleplay nicely. In this case you pay 1/2 DC for each level you need to rebuild. Worst case, you need a rebuild from the scratch and were already level 30 then you will pay 15 DC.

More differences between DC-Rebuild and Self-Rebuild:

The DC Rebuild is meant for smaller changes. Exchange a few feats, exchange a few skills... perhaps gain a little more levels in one class and ditch a few in another. However, since your character does not truly go out and train the old fashioned way, the changes should not be too drastic.

The Self-Rebuild is a bit more generous with changes. This is for example if you want to get rid of one class completely and focus in another (though even here it should not be the main class usually).

What rebuilds are generally not for:

Rebuilds are changes and tweaks of a character, symbolizing its development. They are not meant to create a whole new character. So be aware that rebuild requests which turn your character into a completely new character will likely be denied and you will be told that you will have to make another character for that. Of course there may always be exceptions but generally things like this:

Change an epic sorcerer into an epic wizard.
Change an Epic dodging dex focused shadow dancer into a dev critting fighter/WM.

and the like are not rebuild appropriate changes.

Also be aware that some classes cannot easily be removed once you have started to gain more than 1-2 levels in them. Those are:

Pale Master
Dragon Disciple

The reason for this is simple. The character taking levels in those classes has spent much time and performed special rites willingly to change their body. Those rites and willingly undergone physical changes are not easily undone.
